ஒருமுறை இயேசு மிகவும் நோய்வாய்ப்பட்டிருந்த மனிதன் ஒருவன் வாழ்ந்த ஒரு நகரத்தில் இருந்தார். அந்த மனிதனைத் தொழு நோய் பீடித்திருந்தது. அந்த மனிதன் இயேசுவைப் பார்த்ததும் இயேசுவுக்கு முன்பாக விழுந்து வணங்கி, “ஆண்டவரே, என்னைக் குணப்படுத்துங்கள். உங்களுக்கு விருப்பமிருந்தால் நீங்கள் என்னைக் குணமாக்க முடியும் என்பது எனக்குத் தெரியும்” என்று வேண்டினான்.

இயேசு ஓர் ஊரில் இருந்தபோது, உடலெல்லாம் தொழுநோயால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்த ஒருவர் வந்தார். அவர் இயேசுவைக் கண்டு அவர் காலில் விழுந்து, “ஆண்டவரே, நீர் விரும்பினால் எனது நோயை நீக்க உம்மால் முடியும்” என மன்றாடினார்.
