ஏசாயா 44:19
அதில் பாதியை அடுப்பில் எரித்தேன்; அதின் தழலின்மேல் அப்பத்தையும் சுட்டு, இறைச்சியையும் பொரித்துப் புசித்தேன்; அதில் மீதியான துண்டை நான் அருவருப்பான விக்கிரகமாக்கலாமா? ஒரு மரக்கட்டையை வணங்கலாமா என்று சொல்ல, தன் மனதில் அவனுக்குத் தோன்றவில்லை; அம்மாத்திரம் அறிவும் சொரணையும் இல்லை.

அதில் பாதியை அடுப்பில் எரித்தேன்; அதின் தழலின்மேல் அப்பத்தையும் சுட்டு, இறைச்சியையும் பொரித்து சாப்பிட்டேன்; அதில் மீதியான துண்டை நான் அருவருப்பான விக்கிரகமாக்கலாமா? ஒரு மரக்கட்டையை வணங்கலாமா என்று சொல்ல, தன் மனதில் அவனுக்குத் தோன்றவில்லை; அம்மாத்திரம் அறிவும் சொரணையும் இல்லை.

அந்த ஜனங்கள் இவற்றைப்பற்றி சிந்தித்திருக்கவில்லை. அவர்கள் புரிந்துகொள்ளவில்லை. அதனால் அவர்கள் தமக்குள், “நான் பாதி மரத்தை எரித்தேன். நான் நெருப்புத் துண்டுகளை எனது அப்பங்களைச் சுடவும், எனது இறைச்சியைச் சமைக்கவும் பயன்படுத்தினேன். பிறகு அந்த இறைச்சியை நான் தின்றேன். மீதியுள்ள மரத்தைப் பயன்படுத்தி இந்த அருவருப்பை செய்தேன். ஒரு மரத்துண்டை நான் தொழுதுகொண்டிருக்கிறேன்!” என்று எண்ணுவதில்லை.

அவர்கள் சிந்தையில் மாற்றமில்லை; அவர்களுக்கு அறிவுமில்லை; “அதில் ஒரு பகுதியை அடுப்பில் இட்டு எரித்தேன்; அதன் நெருப்புத்தணலில் அப்பம் சுட்டேன்; இறைச்சியைப் பொரித்து உண்டேன்; எஞ்சிய பகுதியைக் கொண்டு சிலை செய்யலாமா? ஒரு மரக்கட்டை முன் நான் பணிந்து வணங்கலாமா?” என்று சொல்ல அவர்களுக்கு விவேகமும் இல்லை.

And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?

knowledge דַ֥עַת daʿat da-AT

understanding תְבוּנָה֮ tābûn ta-VOON
to say, לֵאמֹר֒ ʾāmar ah-MAHR
part חֶצְי֞וֹ ḥēṣî hay-TSEE
I have burned שָׂרַ֣פְתִּי śārap sa-RAHF
of it in בְמוֹ bĕmô beh-MOH
the fire; אֵ֗שׁ ʾēš aysh
yea, וְ֠אַף ʾap af
also I have baked אָפִ֤יתִי ʾāpâ ah-FA
upon עַל ʿal al
the coals גֶּחָלָיו֙ geḥel ɡeh-HEL
bread לֶ֔חֶם leḥem leh-HEM
