ਬਿਲਆਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਖੋਤੇ ਦੀ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਸੇਵਾਦਾਰ ਵੀ ਸਨ। ਜਦੋਂ ਬਿਲਆਮ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਦੂਤ ਬਿਲਆਮ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਸੜਕ ਉੱਤੇ ਖਲੋ ਗਿਆ। ਦੂਤ ਬਿਲਆਮ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ।

ਤਾਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਦੂਤ ਨੇ ਬਿਲਆਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਨਹੀਂ! ਤੂੰ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਜਾ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਹੁਸ਼ਿਆਰ ਰਹੀਂ। ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਬੋਲੀਂ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਬੋਲਣ ਲਈ ਆਖਾਂ।” ਇਸ ਲਈ ਬਿਲਆਮ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਚੱਲਾ ਗਿਆ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਲਾਕ ਨੇ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਸੀ।

ਖ਼ਰੋਜ 23:20
ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਲੈਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਦਦ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਤ ਭੇਜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ। ਇਹ ਦੂਤ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਸਥਾਨ ਤੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਦੂਤ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰੇਗਾ।
