ਮੈਂ ਸੋਚਿਆ, “ਜਿਸ ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਾਂਗਾ। ਇਸ ਲਈ, ਮੈਂ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਬਣਨ ਲਈ ਕਿਉਂ ਇੰਨੀ ਸਖਤ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਕੀਤੀ?” ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਇਹ ਵੀ ਅਰਬਹੀਣ ਹੈ।”

	אֲנִ֖י	ʾănî	uh-NEE
then	אָ֣ז	ʾāz	az
more	יוֹתֵ֑ר	yôtēr	yoh-TARE
Then I said	וְדִבַּ֣רְתִּי	dābar	da-VAHR
in my heart,	בְלִבִּ֔י	lēb	lave
also	שֶׁגַּם	gam	ɡahm
that this	זֶ֖ה	ze	zeh
vanity.	הָֽבֶל׃	hebel	heh-VEL

ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਨਾਲ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਵੱਧੇਰੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ, ਵੱਧੇਰੇ ਦਰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ।

ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਜਾਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖੇਗਾ। ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਜਲਦੀ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ, ਲੋਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਣਗੇ। ਇਹ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਮਾੜਾ ਹੈ ਇੱਕ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਇੱਕ ਮੂਰਖ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੀ ਮਰਦਾ।

ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਬੁੱਧੀਮਾਨ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਬੁੱਧੀਮਾਨ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਉੱਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਦਿਮਾਗ ਨੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਅਤੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਨਿਰੀਖਣ ਕੀਤਾ!”
