לַמְנַצֵּ֣חַ To the chief Musician, nāṣaḥ אַל תַּשְׁחֵת֮ Al-taschith, ʾal tašḥēt לְדָוִ֪ד of David; dāwid מִ֫כְתָּ֥ם Michtam miktām בִּשְׁלֹ֥חַ sent, šālaḥ שָׁא֑וּל when Saul šāʾûl וַֽיִּשְׁמְר֥וּ and they watched šāmar אֶת ʾēt הַ֝בַּ֗יִת the house bayit לַהֲמִיתֽוֹ׃ to kill him. mût

הַצִּילֵ֖נִי Deliver nāṣal מֵאֹיְבַ֥י׀ me from mine enemies, ʾōyēb אֱלֹהָ֑י O my God: ʾĕlōhîm מִּמִתְקוֹמְמַ֥י me from them that rise up against me. qûm תְּשַׂגְּבֵֽנִי׃ defend śāgab

הַ֭צִּילֵנִי Deliver nāṣal מִפֹּ֣עֲלֵי me from the workers pāʿal אָ֑וֶן of iniquity, ʾāwen וּֽמֵאַנְשֵׁ֥י men. ʾĕnôš דָ֝מִ֗ים me from bloody dām הוֹשִׁיעֵֽנִי׃ and save yāšaʿ

כִּ֤י For, kî הִנֵּ֪ה lo, hinnē אָֽרְב֡וּ they lie in wait ʾārab לְנַפְשִׁ֗י for my soul: nepeš יָג֣וּרוּ are gathered gûr עָלַ֣י against ʿal עַזִ֑ים the mighty ʿaz לֹא me; not lōʾ פִשְׁעִ֖י my transgression, pešaʿ וְלֹא nor lōʾ חַטָּאתִ֣י my sin, ḥaṭṭāʾâ יְהוָֽה׃ O Lord. yĕhōwâ

בְּֽלִי without bĕlî עָ֭וֹן fault: ʿāwōn יְרֻצ֣וּן They run rûṣ וְיִכּוֹנָ֑נוּ and prepare themselves kûn ע֖וּרָה awake ʿûr לִקְרָאתִ֣י to help qirʾâ וּרְאֵה׃ me, and behold. rāʾâ

וְאַתָּ֤ה Thou ʾattâ יְהוָֽה therefore, O Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהִ֥ים׀ God ʾĕlōhîm צְבָא֡וֹת of hosts, ṣābāʾ אֱלֹ֘הֵ֤י the God ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl הָקִ֗יצָה awake qûṣ לִפְקֹ֥ד to visit pāqad כָּֽל all kōl הַגּוֹיִ֑ם the heathen: gôy אַל be not ʾal תָּחֹ֨ן merciful ḥānan כָּל to any kōl בֹּ֖גְדֵי transgressors. bāgad אָ֣וֶן wicked ʾāwen סֶֽלָה׃ Selah. selâ

יָשׁ֣וּבוּ They return šûb לָ֭עֶרֶב at evening: ʿereb יֶהֱמ֥וּ they make a noise hāmâ כַכָּ֗לֶב like a dog, keleb וִיס֥וֹבְבוּ and go round about sābab עִֽיר׃ the city. ʿîr

הִנֵּ֤ה׀ Behold, hinnē יַבִּ֘יע֤וּן they belch out nābaʿ בְּפִיהֶ֗ם with their mouth: pe חֲ֭רָבוֹת swords ḥereb בְּשִׂפְתוֹתֵיהֶ֑ם in their lips: śāpâ כִּי for kî מִ֥י who, mî שֹׁמֵֽעַ׃ doth hear? šāmaʿ

וְאַתָּ֣ה But thou, ʾattâ יְ֭הוָה O Lord, yĕhōwâ תִּשְׂחַק shalt laugh śāḥaq לָ֑מוֹ תִּ֝לְעַ֗ג in derision. lāʿag לְכָל at them; thou shalt have all kōl גּוֹיִֽם׃ the heathen gôy

עֻ֭זּוֹ his strength ʿōz אֵלֶ֣יךָ upon ʾēl אֶשְׁמֹ֑רָה will I wait šāmar כִּֽי thee: for kî אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים God ʾĕlōhîm מִשְׂגַּבִּֽי׃ my defence. miśgāb

אֱלֹהֵ֣י The God ʾĕlōhîm חַסְדִּ֣ו of my mercy ḥēsēd יְקַדְּמֵ֑נִי shall prevent qādam אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים me: God ʾĕlōhîm יַרְאֵ֥נִי shall let me see rāʾâ בְשֹׁרְרָֽי׃ upon mine enemies. šārar

אַל them not, ʾal תַּהַרְגֵ֤ם׀ Slay hārag פֶּֽן lest pēn יִשְׁכְּח֬וּ forget: šākaḥ עַמִּ֗י my people ʿam הֲנִיעֵ֣מוֹ scatter nûaʿ בְ֭חֵילְךָ them by thy power; ḥayil וְהוֹרִידֵ֑מוֹ and bring them down, yārad מָֽגִנֵּ֣נוּ our shield. māgēn אֲדֹנָֽי׃ O Lord ʾădōnāy

חַטַּאת the sin ḥaṭṭāʾâ פִּ֗ימוֹ of their mouth pe דְּֽבַר the words dābār שְׂפָ֫תֵ֥ימוֹ of their lips śāpâ וְיִלָּכְד֥וּ let them even be taken lākad בִגְאוֹנָ֑ם in their pride: gāʾôn וּמֵאָלָ֖ה and for cursing ʾālâ וּמִכַּ֣חַשׁ and lying kaḥaš יְסַפֵּֽרוּ׃ they speak. sāpar

כַּלֵּ֥ה Consume kālâ בְחֵמָה֮ in wrath, ḥēmâ כַּלֵּ֪ה consume kālâ וְֽאֵ֫ינֵ֥מוֹ that they not ʾayin וְֽיֵדְע֗וּ and let them know yādaʿ כִּֽי that kî אֱ֭לֹהִים God ʾĕlōhîm מֹשֵׁ֣ל ruleth māšal בְּיַעֲקֹ֑ב in Jacob yaʿăqōb לְאַפְסֵ֖י unto the ends ʾepes הָאָ֣רֶץ of the earth. ʾereṣ סֶֽלָה׃ Selah. selâ

וְיָשֻׁ֣בוּ let them return; šûb לָ֭עֶרֶב And at evening ʿereb יֶהֱמ֥וּ let them make a noise hāmâ כַכָּ֗לֶב like a dog, keleb וִיס֥וֹבְבוּ and go round about sābab עִֽיר׃ the city. ʿîr

הֵ֭מָּה Let them hēm יְנִוע֣וּן wander up and down nûaʿ לֶאֱכֹ֑ל for meat, ʾākal אִם if ʾim לֹ֥א they be not lōʾ יִ֝שְׂבְּע֗וּ satisfied. śābaʿ וַיָּלִֽינוּ׃ and grudge lûn

וַאֲנִ֤י׀ But I ʾănî אָשִׁ֣יר will sing šîr עֻזֶּךָ֮ of thy power; ʿōz וַאֲרַנֵּ֥ן yea, I will sing aloud rānan לַבֹּ֗קֶר in the morning: bōqer חַ֫סְדֶּ֥ךָ of thy mercy ḥēsēd כִּֽי for kî הָיִ֣יתָ thou hast been hāyâ מִשְׂגָּ֣ב my defence miśgāb לִ֑י וּ֝מָנ֗וֹס and refuge mānôs בְּי֣וֹם in the day yôm צַר of my trouble. ṣar לִֽי׃

עֻ֭זִּי thee, O my strength, ʿōz אֵלֶ֣יךָ Unto ʾēl אֲזַמֵּ֑רָה will I sing: zāmar כִּֽי for kî אֱלֹהִ֥ים God ʾĕlōhîm מִ֝שְׂגַּבִּ֗י my defence, miśgāb אֱלֹהֵ֥י the God ʾĕlōhîm חַסְדִּֽי׃ of my mercy. ḥēsēd
