וַיְהִ֕י And it came to pass, hāyâ כִּשְׁמֹ֖עַ had heard šāmaʿ יָבִ֣ין when Jabin yābîn מֶֽלֶךְ king melek חָצ֑וֹר of Hazor ḥāṣôr וַיִּשְׁלַ֗ח that he sent šālaḥ אֶל to ʾēl יוֹבָב֙ Jobab yôbāb מֶ֣לֶךְ king melek מָד֔וֹן of Madon, mādôn וְאֶל and to ʾēl מֶ֥לֶךְ the king melek שִׁמְר֖וֹן of Shimron, šimrôn וְאֶל and to ʾēl מֶ֥לֶךְ the king melek אַכְשָֽׁף׃ of Achshaph, ʾakšāp

וְֽאֶל And to ʾēl הַמְּלָכִ֞ים the kings melek אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer מִצְּפ֗וֹן on the north ṣāpôn בָּהָ֧ר of the mountains, har וּבָֽעֲרָבָ֛ה and of the plains ʿărābâ נֶ֥גֶב south negeb כִּֽנֲר֖וֹת of Chinneroth, kinnĕrôt וּבַשְּׁפֵלָ֑ה and in the valley, šĕpēlâ וּבְנָפ֥וֹת and in the borders nāpâ דּ֖וֹר of Dor dôr מִיָּֽם׃ on the west, yām

הַֽכְּנַעֲנִי֙ the Canaanite kĕnaʿanî מִמִּזְרָ֣ח on the east mizrāḥ וּמִיָּ֔ם and on the west, yām וְהָֽאֱמֹרִ֧י and the Amorite, ʾĕmōrî וְהַֽחִתִּ֛י and the Hittite, ḥittî וְהַפְּרִזִּ֥י and the Perizzite, pĕrizzî וְהַיְבוּסִ֖י and the Jebusite yĕbûsî בָּהָ֑ר in the mountains, har וְהַֽחִוִּי֙ and the Hivite ḥiwwî תַּ֣חַת under taḥat חֶרְמ֔וֹן Hermon ḥermôn בְּאֶ֖רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ הַמִּצְפָּֽה׃ of Mizpeh. miṣpâ

וַיֵּֽצְא֣וּ And they went out, yāṣāʾ הֵ֗ם they hēm וְכָל and all kōl מַֽחֲנֵיהֶם֙ their hosts maḥăne עִמָּ֔ם with ʿim עַם people, ʿam רָ֕ב them, much rab כַּח֛וֹל even as the sand ḥôl אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer עַל upon ʿal שְׂפַֽת shore śāpâ הַיָּ֖ם the sea yām לָרֹ֑ב in multitude, rōb וְס֥וּס with horses sûs וָרֶ֖כֶב and chariots rekeb רַב many. rab מְאֹֽד׃ very mĕʾōd

וַיִּוָּ֣עֲד֔וּ were met together, yāʿad כֹּ֖ל And when all kōl הַמְּלָכִ֣ים kings melek הָאֵ֑לֶּה these ʾēlle וַיָּבֹ֜אוּ they came bôʾ וַיַּֽחֲנ֤וּ and pitched ḥānâ יַחְדָּו֙ together yaḥad אֶל at ʾēl מֵ֣י the waters mayim מֵר֔וֹם of Merom, mērôm לְהִלָּחֵ֖ם to fight lāḥam עִם against ʿim יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Israel. yiśrāʾēl

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוָ֣ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl יְהוֹשֻׁעַ֮ Joshua, yĕhôšûaʿ אַל Be not ʾal תִּירָ֣א afraid yārēʾ מִפְּנֵיהֶם֒ because pānîm כִּֽי of them: for kî מָחָ֞ר to morrow māḥār כָּעֵ֣ת time ʿēt הַזֹּ֗את about this zōt אָֽנֹכִ֞י will I ʾānōkî נֹתֵ֧ן deliver them up nātan אֶת ʾēt כֻּלָּ֛ם all kōl חֲלָלִ֖ים slain ḥālāl לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel: yiśrāʾēl אֶת ʾēt סֽוּסֵיהֶ֣ם their horses, sûs תְּעַקֵּ֔ר thou shalt hough ʿāqar וְאֶת ʾēt מַרְכְּבֹֽתֵיהֶ֖ם their chariots merkābâ תִּשְׂרֹ֥ף and burn śārap בָּאֵֽשׁ׃ with fire. ʾēš

וַיָּבֹ֣א came, bôʾ יְהוֹשֻׁ֡עַ So Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ וְכָל and all kōl עַם֩ the people ʿam הַמִּלְחָמָ֨ה of war milḥāmâ עִמּ֧וֹ with ʿim עֲלֵיהֶ֛ם him, against ʿal עַל them by ʿal מֵ֥י the waters mayim מֵר֖וֹם of Merom mērôm פִּתְאֹ֑ם suddenly; pitʾôm וַֽיִּפְּל֖וּ and they fell upon them. nāpal בָּהֶֽם׃

וַיִּתְּנֵ֨ם delivered nātan יְהוָ֥ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּיַֽד them into the hand yād יִשְׂרָאֵל֮ of Israel, yiśrāʾēl וַיַּכּוּם֒ who smote nākâ וַֽיִּרְדְּפ֞וּם them, and chased rādap עַד them unto ʿad צִיד֣וֹן Zidon, ṣîdôn רַבָּ֗ה great rab וְעַד֙ and unto ʿad מִשְׂרְפ֣וֹת מַ֔יִם Misrephoth-maim, miśrĕpôt mayim וְעַד and unto ʿad בִּקְעַ֥ת the valley biqʿâ מִצְפֶּ֖ה of Mizpeh miṣpe מִזְרָ֑חָה eastward; mizrāḥ וַיַּכֻּ֕ם and they smote nākâ עַד them, until ʿad בִּלְתִּ֥י them none biltî הִשְׁאִֽיר they left šāʾar לָהֶ֖ם שָׂרִֽיד׃ remaining. śārîd

וַיַּ֤עַשׂ did ʿāśâ לָהֶם֙ יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ And Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר unto them as ʾăšer אָֽמַר bade ʾāmar ל֖וֹ יְהוָ֑ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt סֽוּסֵיהֶ֣ם their horses, sûs עִקֵּ֔ר him: he houghed ʿāqar וְאֶת ʾēt מַרְכְּבֹֽתֵיהֶ֖ם their chariots merkābâ שָׂרַ֥ף and burnt śārap בָּאֵֽשׁ׃ with fire. ʾēš

וַיָּ֨שָׁב turned back, šûb יְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַ And Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ בָּעֵ֤ת time ʿēt הַהִיא֙ at that hûʾ וַיִּלְכֹּ֣ד and took lākad אֶת ʾēt חָצ֔וֹר Hazor, ḥāṣôr וְאֶת ʾēt מַלְכָּ֖הּ the king melek הִכָּ֣ה and smote nākâ בֶחָ֑רֶב thereof with the sword: ḥereb כִּֽי for kî חָצ֣וֹר Hazor ḥāṣôr לְפָנִ֔ים beforetime pānîm הִ֕יא hûʾ רֹ֖אשׁ was the head rōš כָּל of all kōl הַמַּמְלָכ֥וֹת kingdoms. mamlākâ הָאֵֽלֶּה׃ those ʾēlle

וַ֠יַּכּוּ And they smote nākâ אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl הַנֶּ֨פֶשׁ the souls nepeš אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer בָּ֤הּ לְפִי therein with the edge pe חֶ֙רֶב֙ of the sword, ḥereb הַֽחֲרֵ֔ם utterly destroying ḥāram לֹ֥א there was not lōʾ נוֹתַ֖ר left yātar כָּל any kōl נְשָׁמָ֑ה to breathe: nĕšāmâ וְאֶת ʾēt חָצ֖וֹר Hazor ḥāṣôr שָׂרַ֥ף and he burnt śārap בָּאֵֽשׁ׃ with fire. ʾēš

וְֽאֶת ʾēt כָּל And all kōl עָרֵ֣י the cities ʿîr הַמְּלָכִֽים kings, melek הָ֠אֵלֶּה of those ʾēlle וְֽאֶת ʾēt כָּל and all kōl מַלְכֵיהֶ֞ם the kings melek לָכַ֧ד take, lākad יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ of them, did Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ וַיַּכֵּ֥ם and smote nākâ לְפִי them with the edge pe חֶ֖רֶב of the sword, ḥereb הֶֽחֱרִ֣ים he utterly destroyed ḥāram אוֹתָ֑ם ʾēt כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר them, as ʾăšer צִוָּ֔ה commanded. ṣāwâ מֹשֶׁ֖ה Moses mōše עֶ֥בֶד the servant ʿebed יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord yĕhōwâ

רַ֣ק But raq כָּל kōl הֶֽעָרִ֗ים the cities ʿîr הָעֹֽמְדוֹת֙ that stood still ʿāmad עַל in ʿal תִּלָּ֔ם their strength, tēl לֹ֥א none lōʾ שְׂרָפָ֖ם burned śārap יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel yiśrāʾēl זֽוּלָתִ֛י of them, save zûlâ אֶת ʾēt חָצ֥וֹר Hazor ḥāṣôr לְבַדָּ֖הּ only; bad שָׂרַ֥ף burn. śārap יְהוֹשֻֽׁעַ׃ did Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ

וְ֠כֹל And all kōl שְׁלַ֞ל the spoil šālāl הֶֽעָרִ֤ים cities, ʿîr הָאֵ֙לֶּה֙ of these ʾēlle וְהַבְּהֵמָ֔ה and the cattle, bĕhēmâ בָּֽזְז֥וּ took for a prey bāzaz לָהֶ֖ם hēm בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl רַ֣ק unto themselves; but raq אֶֽת ʾēt כָּל every kōl הָאָדָ֞ם man ʾādām הִכּ֣וּ they smote nākâ לְפִי with the edge pe חֶ֗רֶב of the sword, ḥereb עַד until ʿad הִשְׁמִדָם֙ they had destroyed šāmad אוֹתָ֔ם ʾēt לֹ֥א them, neither lōʾ הִשְׁאִ֖ירוּ left šāʾar כָּל they any kōl נְשָׁמָֽה׃ to breathe. nĕšāmâ

כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר As ʾăšer צִוָּ֤ה commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt מֹשֶׁ֣ה Moses mōše עַבְדּ֔וֹ his servant, ʿebed כֵּן so kēn צִוָּ֥ה command ṣāwâ מֹשֶׁ֖ה did Moses mōše אֶת ʾēt יְהוֹשֻׁ֑עַ Joshua, yĕhôšûaʿ וְכֵן֙ and so kēn עָשָׂ֣ה did ʿāśâ יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ Joshua; yĕhôšûaʿ לֹֽא undone lōʾ הֵסִ֣יר he left sûr דָּבָ֔ר nothing dābār מִכֹּ֛ל of all kōl אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer צִוָּ֥ה commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt מֹשֶֽׁה׃ Moses. mōše

וַיִּקַּ֨ח took lāqaḥ יְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַ So Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl הָאָ֣רֶץ land, ʾereṣ הַזֹּ֗את that zōt הָהָ֤ר the hills, har וְאֶת ʾēt כָּל and all kōl הַנֶּ֙גֶב֙ the south country, negeb וְאֵת֙ ʾēt כָּל and all kōl אֶ֣רֶץ the land ʾereṣ הַגֹּ֔שֶׁן of Goshen, gōšen וְאֶת ʾēt הַשְּׁפֵלָ֖ה and the valley, šĕpēlâ וְאֶת ʾēt הָֽעֲרָבָ֑ה and the plain, ʿărābâ וְאֶת ʾēt הַ֥ר and the mountain har יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl וּשְׁפֵֽלָתֹֽה׃ and the valley of the same; šĕpēlâ

מִן from min הָהָ֤ר the mount har הֶֽחָלָק֙ Halak, ḥālāq הָֽעוֹלֶ֣ה that goeth up ʿālâ שֵׂעִ֔יר to Seir, śēʿîr וְעַד even unto ʿad בַּ֤עַל גָּד֙ Baal-gad baʿal gād בְּבִקְעַ֣ת in the valley biqʿâ הַלְּבָנ֔וֹן of Lebanon lĕbānôn תַּ֖חַת under taḥat הַר mount har חֶרְמ֑וֹן Hermon: ḥermôn וְאֵ֤ת ʾēt כָּל and all kōl מַלְכֵיהֶם֙ their kings melek לָכַ֔ד he took, lākad וַיַּכֵּ֖ם and smote nākâ וַיְמִיתֵֽם׃ them, and slew them. mût

יָמִ֣ים time yôm רַבִּ֗ים a long rab עָשָׂ֧ה made ʿāśâ יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ אֶת with ʾēt כָּל all kōl הַמְּלָכִ֥ים kings. melek הָאֵ֖לֶּה those ʾēlle מִלְחָמָֽה׃ war milḥāmâ

לֹֽא not lōʾ הָיְתָ֣ה There was hāyâ עִ֗יר a city ʿîr אֲשֶׁ֤ר that ʾăšer הִשְׁלִ֙ימָה֙ made peace šālam אֶל with ʾēl בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl בִּלְתִּ֥י save biltî הַֽחִוִּ֖י the Hivites ḥiwwî יֹֽשְׁבֵ֣י the inhabitants yāšab גִבְע֑וֹן of Gibeon: gibʿôn אֶת ʾēt הַכֹּ֖ל all kōl לָֽקְח֥וּ they took lāqaḥ בַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ in battle. milḥāmâ

כִּ֣י For kî מֵאֵ֣ת of ʾēt יְהוָ֣ה׀ the Lord yĕhōwâ הָֽיְתָ֡ה it was hāyâ לְחַזֵּ֣ק to harden ḥāzaq אֶת ʾēt לִבָּם֩ their hearts, lēb לִקְרַ֨את that they should come against qirʾâ הַמִּלְחָמָ֤ה in battle, milḥāmâ אֶת ʾēt יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ Israel yiśrāʾēl לְמַ֣עַן that maʿan הַֽחֲרִימָ֔ם he might destroy utterly, ḥāram לְבִלְתִּ֥י no biltî הֱיוֹת them that they might have hāyâ לָהֶ֖ם hēm תְּחִנָּ֑ה favour, tĕḥinnâ כִּ֚י but kî לְמַ֣עַן that maʿan הַשְׁמִידָ֔ם he might destroy šāmad כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר them, as ʾăšer צִוָּ֥ה commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt מֹשֶֽׁה׃ Moses. mōše

וַיָּבֹ֨א came bôʾ יְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַ Joshua, yĕhôšûaʿ בָּעֵ֣ת time ʿēt הַהִ֗יא And at that hûʾ וַיַּכְרֵ֤ת and cut off kārat אֶת ʾēt הָֽעֲנָקִים֙ the Anakims ʿănāqî מִן from min הָהָ֤ר the mountains, har מִן from min חֶבְרוֹן֙ Hebron, ḥebrôn מִן from min דְּבִ֣ר Debir, dĕbîr מִן from min עֲנָ֔ב Anab, ʿănāb וּמִכֹּל֙ and from all kōl הַ֣ר the mountains har יְהוּדָ֔ה of Judah, yĕhûdâ וּמִכֹּ֖ל and from all kōl הַ֣ר the mountains har יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel: yiśrāʾēl עִם them with ʿim עָֽרֵיהֶ֖ם their cities. ʿîr הֶֽחֱרִימָ֥ם destroyed utterly ḥāram יְהוֹשֻֽׁעַ׃ Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ

לֹֽא There was none lōʾ נוֹתַ֣ר left yātar עֲנָקִ֔ים of the Anakims ʿănāqî בְּאֶ֖רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ בְּנֵ֣י of the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel: yiśrāʾēl רַ֗ק only raq בְּעַזָּ֛ה in Gaza, ʿazzâ בְּגַ֥ת in Gath, gat וּבְאַשְׁדּ֖וֹד and in Ashdod, ʾašdôd נִשְׁאָֽרוּ׃ there remained. šāʾar

וַיִּקַּ֨ח took lāqaḥ יְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַ So Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ אֶת ʾēt כָּל the whole kōl הָאָ֗רֶץ land, ʾereṣ כְּ֠כֹל according to all kōl אֲשֶׁ֨ר that ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֣ר said dābar יְהוָה֮ the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl מֹשֶׁה֒ Moses; mōše וַיִּתְּנָהּ֩ gave nātan יְהוֹשֻׁ֨עַ and Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ לְנַֽחֲלָ֧ה it for an inheritance naḥălâ לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל unto Israel yiśrāʾēl כְּמַחְלְקֹתָ֖ם according to their divisions maḥălōqet לְשִׁבְטֵיהֶ֑ם by their tribes. šēbeṭ וְהָאָ֥רֶץ And the land ʾereṣ שָֽׁקְטָ֖ה rested šāqaṭ מִמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ from war. milḥāmâ
