וַיַּֽעַן answered ʿānâ יְהוָ֣ה Then the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt אִ֭יּוֹב Job ʾiyyôb מִ֥נ׀ out of the whirlwind, min הַסְּעָרָ֗ה saʿar וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ and said, ʾāmar

מִ֤י Who mî זֶ֨ה׀ this ze מַחְשִׁ֖יךְ that darkeneth ḥāšak עֵצָ֥ה counsel ʿēṣâ בְמִלִּ֗ין by words millâ בְּֽלִי without bĕlî דָֽעַת׃ knowledge? daʿat

אֱזָר Gird up ʾāzar נָ֣א now nāʾ כְגֶ֣בֶר like a man; geber חֲלָצֶ֑יךָ thy loins ḥālāṣ וְ֝אֶשְׁאָלְךָ֗ for I will demand šāʾal וְהוֹדִיעֵֽנִי׃ of thee, and answer thou me. yādaʿ

אֵיפֹ֣ה Where ʾêpō הָ֭יִיתָ wast hāyâ בְּיָסְדִי thou when I laid the foundations yāsad אָ֑רֶץ of the earth? ʾereṣ הַ֝גֵּ֗ד declare, nāgad אִם if ʾim יָדַ֥עְתָּ thou hast yādaʿ בִינָֽה׃ understanding. bînâ

מִי Who mî שָׂ֣ם hath laid śûm מְ֭מַדֶּיהָ the measures mēmad כִּ֣י thereof, if kî תֵדָ֑ע thou knowest? yādaʿ א֤וֹ or ʾô מִֽי who mî נָטָ֖ה hath stretched nāṭâ עָלֶ֣יהָ upon it? ʿal קָּֽו׃ the line qǎw

עַל Whereupon ʿal מָ֭ה mâ אֲדָנֶ֣יהָ are the foundations ʾeden הָטְבָּ֑עוּ thereof fastened? ṭābaʿ א֥וֹ or ʾô מִֽי who mî יָ֝רָ֗ה laid yārâ אֶ֣בֶן stone thereof; ʾeben פִּנָּתָֽהּ׃ the corner pinnâ

בְּרָן sang rānan יַ֭חַד together, yaḥad כּ֣וֹכְבֵי stars kôkāb בֹ֑קֶר When the morning bōqer וַ֝יָּרִ֗יעוּ shouted for joy? rûaʿ כָּל and all kōl בְּנֵ֥י the sons bēn אֱלֹהִֽים׃ of God ʾĕlōhîm

וַיָּ֣סֶךְ Or shut up sākak בִּדְלָתַ֣יִם with doors, delet יָ֑ם the sea yām בְּ֝גִיח֗וֹ when it brake forth, gîaḥ מֵרֶ֥חֶם of the womb? reḥem יֵצֵֽא׃ it had issued out yāṣāʾ

בְּשׂוּמִ֣י When I made śûm עָנָ֣ן the cloud ʿānān לְבֻשׁ֑וֹ the garment lĕbûš וַ֝עֲרָפֶ֗ל thereof, and thick darkness ʿărāpel חֲתֻלָּתֽוֹ׃ a swaddlingband for it, ḥătullâ

וָאֶשְׁבֹּ֣ר And brake up šābar עָלָ֣יו for ʿal חֻקִּ֑י it my decreed ḥōq וָֽ֝אָשִׂ֗ים and set śûm בְּרִ֣יחַ bars bĕrîaḥ וּדְלָתָֽיִם׃ and doors, delet

וָאֹמַ֗ר And said, ʾāmar עַד Hitherto ʿad פֹּ֣ה pō תָ֭בוֹא shalt thou come, bôʾ וְלֹ֣א but no lōʾ תֹסִ֑יף further: yāsap וּפֹ֥א and here pō יָ֝שִׁ֗ית be stayed? šît בִּגְא֥וֹן shall thy proud gāʾôn גַּלֶּֽיךָ׃ waves gal

הֲֽ֭מִיָּמֶיךָ since thy days; yôm צִוִּ֣יתָ Hast thou commanded ṣāwâ בֹּ֑קֶר the morning bōqer יִדַּ֖עְתָּהַ to know yādaʿ שַּׁ֣חַר caused the dayspring šaḥar מְקֹמֽוֹ׃ his place; māqôm

לֶ֭אֱחֹז That it might take hold ʾāḥaz בְּכַנְפ֣וֹת of the ends kānāp הָאָ֑רֶץ of the earth, ʾereṣ וְיִנָּעֲר֖וּ might be shaken out nāʿar רְשָׁעִ֣ים that the wicked rāšāʿ מִמֶּֽנָּה׃ of it? min

תִּ֭תְהַפֵּךְ It is turned hāpak כְּחֹ֣מֶר as clay ḥōmer חוֹתָ֑ם the seal; ḥôtām וְ֝יִֽתְיַצְּב֗וּ and they stand yāṣab כְּמ֣וֹ as kĕmô לְבֽוּשׁ׃ a garment. lĕbûš

וְיִמָּנַ֣ע is withholden, mānaʿ מֵרְשָׁעִ֣ים And from the wicked rāšāʿ אוֹרָ֑ם their light ʾôr וּזְר֥וֹעַ arm zĕrôaʿ רָ֝מָ֗ה and the high rûm תִּשָּׁבֵֽר׃ shall be broken. šābar

הֲ֭בָאתָ Hast thou entered bôʾ עַד into ʿad נִבְכֵי the springs nēbek יָ֑ם of the sea? yām וּבְחֵ֥קֶר in the search ḥēqer תְּ֝ה֗וֹם of the depth? tĕhôm הִתְהַלָּֽכְתָּ׃ or hast thou walked hālak

הֲנִגְל֣וּ been opened gālâ לְ֭ךָ שַׁעֲרֵי Have the gates šaʿar מָ֑וֶת of death māwet וְשַׁעֲרֵ֖י the doors šaʿar צַלְמָ֣וֶת of the shadow of death? ṣalmāwet תִּרְאֶֽה׃ unto thee? or hast thou seen rāʾâ

הִ֭תְבֹּנַנְתָּ Hast thou perceived bîn עַד ʿad רַחֲבֵי the breadth raḥab אָ֑רֶץ of the earth? ʾereṣ הַ֝גֵּ֗ד declare nāgad אִם if ʾim יָדַ֥עְתָּ thou knowest yādaʿ כֻלָּֽהּ׃ it all. kōl

אֵי Where ʾay זֶ֣ה ze הַ֭דֶּרֶךְ the way derek יִשְׁכָּן dwelleth? šākan א֑וֹר light ʾôr וְ֝חֹ֗שֶׁךְ and darkness, ḥōšek אֵי where ʾay זֶ֥ה ze מְקֹמֽוֹ׃ the place thereof, māqôm

כִּ֣י That kî תִ֭קָּחֶנּוּ thou shouldest take lāqaḥ אֶל it to ʾēl גְּבוּל֑וֹ the bound gĕbûl וְכִֽי thereof, and that kî תָ֝בִ֗ין thou shouldest know bîn נְתִיב֥וֹת the paths nātîb בֵּיתֽוֹ׃ the house thereof? bayit

יָ֭דַעְתָּ Knowest yādaʿ כִּי thou because kî אָ֣ז thou wast then ʾāz תִּוָּלֵ֑ד born? yālad וּמִסְפַּ֖ר or the number mispār יָמֶ֣יךָ of thy days yôm רַבִּֽים׃ great? rab

הֲ֭בָאתָ Hast thou entered bôʾ אֶל into ʾēl אֹצְר֣וֹת the treasures ʾôṣār שָׁ֑לֶג of the snow? šeleg וְאוֹצְר֖וֹת the treasures ʾôṣār בָּרָ֣ד of the hail, bārād תִּרְאֶֽה׃ or hast thou seen rāʾâ

אֲשֶׁר Which ʾăšer חָשַׂ֥כְתִּי I have reserved ḥāśak לְעֶת against the time ʿēt צָ֑ר of trouble, ṣar לְי֥וֹם against the day yôm קְ֝רָ֗ב of battle qĕrāb וּמִלְחָמָֽה׃ and war? milḥāmâ

אֵי By what ʾay זֶ֣ה ze הַ֭דֶּרֶךְ way derek יֵחָ֣לֶק parted, ḥālaq א֑וֹר is the light ʾôr יָפֵ֖ץ scattereth pûṣ קָדִ֣ים the east wind qādîm עֲלֵי upon ʿal אָֽרֶץ׃ the earth? ʾereṣ

מִֽי Who mî פִלַּ֣ג hath divided pālag לַשֶּׁ֣טֶף for the overflowing of waters, šeṭep תְּעָלָ֑ה a watercourse tĕʿālâ וְ֝דֶ֗רֶךְ or a way derek לַחֲזִ֥יז for the lightning ḥăzîz קֹלֽוֹת׃ of thunder; qôl

לְ֭הַמְטִיר To cause it to rain māṭar עַל on ʿal אֶ֣רֶץ the earth, ʾereṣ לֹא no lōʾ אִ֑ישׁ man ʾîš מִ֝דְבָּ֗ר the wilderness, midbār לֹא wherein no lōʾ אָדָ֥ם man; ʾādām בּֽוֹ׃

לְהַשְׂבִּ֣יעַ To satisfy śābaʿ שֹׁ֭אָה the desolate šôʾ וּמְשֹׁאָ֑ה and waste mĕšôʾâ וּ֝לְהַצְמִ֗יחַ to spring forth? ṣāmaḥ מֹ֣צָא and to cause the bud môṣāʾ דֶֽשֶׁא׃ of the tender herb dešeʾ

הֲיֵשׁ Hath yēš לַמָּטָ֥ר the rain māṭar אָ֑ב a father? ʾāb א֥וֹ or ʾô מִי who mî ה֝וֹלִ֗יד hath begotten yālad אֶגְלֵי the drops ʾegel טָֽל׃ of dew? ṭal

מִבֶּ֣טֶן Out of whose womb beṭen מִ֭י who mî יָצָ֣א came yāṣāʾ הַקָּ֑רַח the ice? qeraḥ וּכְפֹ֥ר and the hoary frost kĕpôr שָׁ֝מַיִם of heaven, šāmayim מִ֣י mî יְלָדֽוֹ׃ hath gendered it? yālad

כָּ֭אֶבֶן as a stone, ʾeben מַ֣יִם The waters mayim יִתְחַבָּ֑אוּ are hid ḥābāʾ וּפְנֵ֥י and the face pānîm תְ֝ה֗וֹם of the deep tĕhôm יִתְלַכָּֽדוּ׃ is frozen. lākad

הַֽ֭תְקַשֵּׁר Canst thou bind qāšar מַעֲדַנּ֣וֹת the sweet influences maʿădannâ כִּימָ֑ה of Pleiades, kîmâ אֽוֹ or ʾô מֹשְׁכ֖וֹת the bands môšĕkâ כְּסִ֣יל of Orion? kĕsîl תְּפַתֵּֽחַ׃ loose pātaḥ

הֲתֹצִ֣יא Canst thou bring forth yāṣāʾ מַזָּר֣וֹת Mazzaroth mazzārâ בְּעִתּ֑וֹ in his season? ʿēt וְ֝עַ֗יִשׁ Arcturus ʿayiš עַל with ʿal בָּנֶ֥יהָ his sons? bēn תַנְחֵֽם׃ or canst thou guide nāḥâ

הֲ֭יָדַעְתָּ Knowest yādaʿ חֻקּ֣וֹת thou the ordinances ḥuqqâ שָׁמָ֑יִם of heaven? šāmayim אִם ʾim תָּשִׂ֖ים canst thou set śûm מִשְׁטָר֣וֹ the dominion mišṭār בָאָֽרֶץ׃ thereof in the earth? ʾereṣ

הֲתָרִ֣ים Canst thou lift up rûm לָעָ֣ב to the clouds, ʿāb קוֹלֶ֑ךָ thy voice qôl וְֽשִׁפְעַת that abundance šipʿâ מַ֥יִם of waters mayim תְּכַסֶּֽךָּ׃ may cover thee? kāsâ

הַֽתְשַׁלַּ֣ח Canst thou send šālaḥ בְּרָקִ֣ים lightnings, bārāq וְיֵלֵ֑כוּ that they may go, hālak וְיֹאמְר֖וּ and say ʾāmar לְךָ֣ הִנֵּֽנוּ׃ unto thee, Here we hēn

מִי Who mî שָׁ֭ת hath put šît בַּטֻּח֣וֹת in the inward parts? ṭuḥâ חָכְמָ֑ה wisdom ḥokmâ א֤וֹ or ʾô מִֽי who mî נָתַ֖ן hath given nātan לַשֶּׂ֣כְוִי to the heart? śekwî בִינָֽה׃ understanding bînâ

מִֽי Who mî יְסַפֵּ֣ר can number sāpar שְׁחָקִ֣ים the clouds šaḥaq בְּחָכְמָ֑ה in wisdom? ḥokmâ וְנִבְלֵ֥י the bottles nebel שָׁ֝מַ֗יִם of heaven, šāmayim מִ֣י or who mî יַשְׁכִּֽיב׃ can stay šākab

בְּצֶ֣קֶת groweth yāṣaq עָ֭פָר When the dust ʿāpār לַמּוּצָ֑ק into hardness, mûṣāq וּרְגָבִ֥ים and the clods regeb יְדֻבָּֽקוּ׃ cleave fast together? dābaq

הֲתָצ֣וּד Wilt thou hunt ṣûd לְלָבִ֣יא for the lion? lābîʾ טָ֑רֶף the prey ṭerep וְחַיַּ֖ת the appetite ḥay כְּפִירִ֣ים of the young lions, kĕpîr תְּמַלֵּֽא׃ or fill mālēʾ

כִּי When kî יָשֹׁ֥חוּ they couch šāḥaḥ בַמְּעוֹנ֑וֹת in dens, mĕʿônâ יֵשְׁב֖וּ abide yāšab בַסֻּכָּ֣ה in the covert sukkâ לְמוֹ to lĕmô אָֽרֶב׃ lie in wait? ʾereb

מִ֤י Who mî יָכִ֥ין provideth kûn לָעֹרֵ֗ב for the raven ʿōrēb צֵ֫יד֥וֹ his food? ṣayid כִּֽי when kî יְ֭לָדָו his young ones yeled אֶל God, ʾēl אֵ֣ל unto ʾēl יְשַׁוֵּ֑עוּ cry šāwaʿ יִ֝תְע֗וּ they wander tāʿâ לִבְלִי for lack bĕlî אֹֽכֶל׃ of meat. ʾōkel
