רְדִ֣י׀ Come down, yārad וּשְׁבִ֣י and sit yāšab עַל in ʿal עָפָ֗ר the dust, ʿāpār בְּתוּלַת֙ O virgin bĕtûlâ בַּת daughter bat בָּבֶ֔ל of Babylon, bābel שְׁבִי sit yāšab לָאָ֥רֶץ on the ground: ʾereṣ אֵין no ʾayin כִּסֵּ֖א throne, kissēʾ בַּת O daughter bat כַּשְׂדִּ֑ים of the Chaldeans: kaśdî כִּ֣י for kî לֹ֤א thou shalt no lōʾ תוֹסִ֙יפִי֙ more yāsap יִקְרְאוּ be called qārāʾ לָ֔ךְ רַכָּ֖ה tender rak וַעֲנֻגָּֽה׃ and delicate. ʿānōg

קְחִ֥י Take lāqaḥ רֵחַ֖יִם the millstones, rēḥe וְטַ֣חֲנִי and grind ṭāḥan קָ֑מַח meal: qemaḥ גַּלִּ֨י uncover gālâ צַמָּתֵ֧ךְ thy locks, ṣammâ חֶשְׂפִּי make bare ḥāśap שֹׁ֛בֶל the leg, šōbel גַּלִּי uncover gālâ שׁ֖וֹק the thigh, šôq עִבְרִ֥י pass over ʿābar נְהָרֽוֹת׃ the rivers. nāhār

תִּגָּל֙ shall be uncovered, gālâ עֶרְוָתֵ֔ךְ Thy nakedness ʿerwâ גַּ֥ם yea, gam תֵּרָאֶ֖ה shall be seen: rāʾâ חֶרְפָּתֵ֑ךְ thy shame ḥerpâ נָקָ֣ם vengeance, nāqām אֶקָּ֔ח I will take lāqaḥ וְלֹ֥א and I will not lōʾ אֶפְגַּ֖ע meet pāgaʿ אָדָֽם׃ a man. ʾādām

קָצַ֣פְתִּי I was wroth qāṣap עַל with ʿal עַמִּ֗י my people, ʿam חִלַּ֙לְתִּי֙ I have polluted ḥālal נַחֲלָתִ֔י mine inheritance, naḥălâ וָאֶתְּנֵ֖ם and given nātan בְּיָדֵ֑ךְ them into thine hand: yād לֹא them no lōʾ שַׂ֤מְתְּ thou didst shew śûm לָהֶם֙ hēm רַחֲמִ֔ים mercy; raḥam עַל upon ʿal זָקֵ֕ן the ancient zāqēn הִכְבַּ֥דְתְּ heavily laid kābad עֻלֵּ֖ךְ thy yoke. ʿōl מְאֹֽד׃ hast thou very mĕʾōd

וַתֹּ֣אמְרִ֔י And thou saidst, ʾāmar לְעוֹלָ֖ם for ever: ʿôlām אֶהְיֶ֣ה I shall be hāyâ גְבָ֑רֶת a lady gĕberet עַ֣ד that ʿad לֹא thou didst not lōʾ שַׂ֥מְתְּ lay śûm אֵ֙לֶּה֙ these ʾēlle עַל to ʿal לִבֵּ֔ךְ thy heart, lēb לֹ֥א neither lōʾ זָכַ֖רְתְּ didst remember zākar אַחֲרִיתָֽהּ׃ the latter end of it. ʾaḥărît

וְעַתָּ֞ה now ʿattâ שִׁמְעִי Therefore hear šāmaʿ זֹ֤את this, zōt עֲדִינָה֙ given to pleasures, ʿādîn הַיּוֹשֶׁ֣בֶת that dwellest yāšab לָבֶ֔טַח carelessly, beṭaḥ הָאֹֽמְרָה֙ that sayest ʾāmar בִּלְבָ֔בָהּ in thine heart, lēbāb אֲנִ֖י I ʾănî וְאַפְסִ֣י and none else beside ʾepes ע֑וֹד ʿôd לֹ֤א me; I shall not lōʾ אֵשֵׁב֙ sit yāšab אַלְמָנָ֔ה a widow, ʾalmānâ וְלֹ֥א neither lōʾ אֵדַ֖ע shall I know yādaʿ שְׁכֽוֹל׃ the loss of children: šĕkôl

וְתָבֹאנָה֩ shall come bôʾ לָּ֨ךְ שְׁתֵּי two šĕnayim אֵ֥לֶּה But these ʾēlle רֶ֛גַע to thee in a moment regaʿ בְּי֥וֹם day, yôm אֶחָ֖ד in one ʾeḥād שְׁכ֣וֹל the loss of children, šĕkôl וְאַלְמֹ֑ן and widowhood: ʾalmōn כְּתֻמָּם֙ thee in their perfection tōm בָּ֣אוּ they shall come bôʾ עָלַ֔יִךְ upon ʿal בְּרֹ֣ב for the multitude rōb כְּשָׁפַ֔יִךְ of thy sorceries, kešep בְּעָצְמַ֥ת abundance ʿoṣmâ חֲבָרַ֖יִךְ of thine enchantments. ḥeber מְאֹֽד׃ for the great mĕʾōd

וַתִּבְטְחִ֣י For thou hast trusted bāṭaḥ בְרָעָתֵ֗ךְ in thy wickedness: raʿ אָמַרְתְּ֙ thou hast said, ʾāmar אֵ֣ין None ʾayin רֹאָ֔נִי seeth rāʾâ חָכְמָתֵ֥ךְ me. Thy wisdom ḥokmâ וְדַעְתֵּ֖ךְ and thy knowledge, daʿat הִ֣יא it hûʾ שׁוֹבְבָ֑תֶךְ hath perverted šûb וַתֹּאמְרִ֣י thee; and thou hast said ʾāmar בְלִבֵּ֔ךְ in thine heart, lēb אֲנִ֖י I ʾănî וְאַפְסִ֥י and none else beside ʾepes עֽוֹד׃ me. ʿôd

וּבָ֧א come bôʾ עָלַ֣יִךְ upon ʿal רָעָ֗ה Therefore shall evil raʿ לֹ֤א thee; thou shalt not lōʾ תֵדְעִי֙ know yādaʿ שַׁחְרָ֔הּ from whence it riseth: šaḥar וְתִפֹּ֤ל shall fall nāpal עָלַ֙יִךְ֙ upon ʿal הוָֹ֔ה and mischief hōwâ לֹ֥א thee; thou shalt not lōʾ תוּכְלִ֖י be able yākōl כַּפְּרָ֑הּ to put it off: kāpar וְתָבֹ֨א shall come bôʾ עָלַ֧יִךְ upon ʿal פִּתְאֹ֛ם thee suddenly, pitʾôm שֹׁאָ֖ה and desolation šôʾ לֹ֥א thou shalt not lōʾ תֵדָֽעִי׃ know. yādaʿ

עִמְדִי Stand ʿāmad נָ֤א now nāʾ בַחֲבָרַ֙יִךְ֙ with thine enchantments, ḥeber וּבְרֹ֣ב and with the multitude rōb כְּשָׁפַ֔יִךְ of thy sorceries, kešep בַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר wherein ʾăšer יָגַ֖עַתְּ thou hast laboured yāgaʿ מִנְּעוּרָ֑יִךְ from thy youth; nāʿûr אוּלַ֛י if so be ʾûlay תּוּכְלִ֥י thou shalt be able yākōl הוֹעִ֖יל to profit, yāʿal אוּלַ֥י if so be ʾûlay תַּעֲרֽוֹצִי׃ thou mayest prevail. ʿāraṣ

נִלְאֵ֖ית Thou art wearied lāʾâ בְּרֹ֣ב in the multitude rōb עֲצָתָ֑יִךְ of thy counsels. ʿēṣâ יַעַמְדוּ stand up, ʿāmad נָ֨א Let now nāʾ וְיוֹשִׁיעֻ֜ךְ and save yāšaʿ הֹבְרֵ֣ו the astrologers, hābar שָׁמַ֗יִם šāmayim הַֽחֹזִים֙ the stargazers, ḥōze בַּכּ֣וֹכָבִ֔ים kôkāb מֽוֹדִעִים֙ prognosticators, yādaʿ לֶחֳדָשִׁ֔ים the monthly ḥōdeš מֵאֲשֶׁ֥ר thee from that ʾăšer יָבֹ֖אוּ shall come bôʾ עָלָֽיִךְ׃ upon thee. ʿal

הִנֵּ֨ה Behold, hinnē הָי֤וּ they shall be hāyâ כְקַשׁ֙ as stubble; qaš אֵ֣שׁ the fire ʾēš שְׂרָפָ֔תַם shall burn śārap לֹֽא them; they shall not lōʾ יַצִּ֥ילוּ deliver nāṣal אֶת ʾēt נַפְשָׁ֖ם themselves nepeš מִיַּ֣ד from the power yād לֶֽהָבָ֑ה of the flame: lehābâ אֵין not ʾayin גַּחֶ֣לֶת a coal geḥel לַחְמָ֔ם to warm ḥāmam א֖וּר at, fire ʾûr לָשֶׁ֥בֶת to sit yāšab נֶגְדּֽוֹ׃ before it. neged

כֵּ֥ן Thus kēn הָיוּ shall they be hāyâ לָ֖ךְ אֲשֶׁ֣ר unto thee with whom ʾăšer יָגָ֑עַתְּ thou hast laboured, yāgaʿ סֹחֲרַ֣יִךְ thy merchants, sāḥar מִנְּעוּרַ֗יִךְ from thy youth: nāʿûr אִ֤ישׁ every one ʾîš לְעֶבְרוֹ֙ to his quarter; ʿēber תָּע֔וּ they shall wander tāʿâ אֵ֖ין none ʾayin מוֹשִׁיעֵֽךְ׃ shall save thee. yāšaʿ
