מַשָּׂ֖א The burden maśśāʾ גֵּ֣יא of the valley gayʾ חִזָּי֑וֹן of vision. ḥizzāyôn מַה What mâ לָּ֣ךְ אֵפ֔וֹא aileth thee now, ʾēpô כִּֽי that kî עָלִ֥ית gone up ʿālâ כֻּלָּ֖ךְ thou art wholly kōl לַגַּגּֽוֹת׃ to the housetops? gāg

תְּשֻׁא֣וֹת׀ of stirs, tĕšuʾâ מְלֵאָ֗ה Thou that art full mĕlōʾ עִ֚יר city, ʿîr הֽוֹמִיָּ֔ה a tumultuous hāmâ קִרְיָ֖ה city: qiryâ עַלִּיזָ֑ה a joyous ʿallîz חֲלָלַ֙יִךְ֙ thy slain ḥālāl לֹ֣א not lōʾ חַלְלֵי slain ḥālāl חֶ֔רֶב with the sword, ḥereb וְלֹ֖א nor lōʾ מֵתֵ֥י dead mût מִלְחָמָֽה׃ in battle. milḥāmâ

כָּל All kōl קְצִינַ֥יִךְ thy rulers qāṣîn נָֽדְדוּ are fled nādad יַ֖חַד together, yaḥad מִקֶּ֣שֶׁת by the archers: qešet אֻסָּ֑רוּ they are bound ʾāsar כָּל all kōl נִמְצָאַ֙יִךְ֙ that are found māṣāʾ אֻסְּר֣וּ in thee are bound ʾāsar יַחְדָּ֔ו together, yaḥad מֵרָח֖וֹק from far. rāḥôq בָּרָֽחוּ׃ have fled bāraḥ

עַל Therefore ʿal כֵּ֥ן kēn אָמַ֛רְתִּי said ʾāmar שְׁע֥וּ I, Look away šāʿâ מִנִּ֖י from min אֲמָרֵ֣ר bitterly, mārar בַּבֶּ֑כִי me; I will weep bĕkî אַל not ʾal תָּאִ֣יצוּ labour ʾûṣ לְנַֽחֲמֵ֔נִי to comfort nāḥam עַל me, because ʿal שֹׁ֖ד of the spoiling šōd בַּת of the daughter bat עַמִּֽי׃ of my people. ʿam

כִּ֣י For kî יוֹם֩ a day yôm מְהוּמָ֨ה of trouble, mĕhûmâ וּמְבוּסָ֜ה and of treading down, mĕbûsâ וּמְבוּכָ֗ה and of perplexity mĕbûkâ לַֽאדֹנָ֧י by the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִ֛ה God yĕhōwi צְבָא֖וֹת of hosts ṣābāʾ בְּגֵ֣י in the valley gayʾ חִזָּי֑וֹן of vision, ḥizzāyôn מְקַרְקַ֥ר breaking down qûr קִ֖ר the walls, qîr וְשׁ֥וֹעַ and of crying šôaʿ אֶל to ʾēl הָהָֽר׃ the mountains. har

וְעֵילָם֙ And Elam ʿêlām נָשָׂ֣א bare nāśāʾ אַשְׁפָּ֔ה the quiver ʾašpâ בְּרֶ֥כֶב with chariots rekeb אָדָ֖ם of men ʾādām פָּֽרָשִׁ֑ים horsemen, pāroš וְקִ֥יר and Kir qîr עֵרָ֖ה uncovered ʿārâ מָגֵֽן׃ the shield. māgēn

וַיְהִ֥י And it shall come to pass, hāyâ מִבְחַר thy choicest mibḥār עֲמָקַ֖יִךְ valleys ʿēmeq מָ֣לְאוּ shall be full mālēʾ רָ֑כֶב of chariots, rekeb וְהַפָּ֣רָשִׁ֔ים and the horsemen pāroš שֹׁ֖ת shall set šît שָׁ֥תוּ themselves in array šît הַשָּֽׁעְרָה׃ at the gate. šaʿar

וַיְגַ֕ל And he discovered gālâ אֵ֖ת ʾēt מָסַ֣ךְ the covering māsok יְהוּדָ֑ה of Judah, yĕhûdâ וַתַּבֵּט֙ and thou didst look nābaṭ בַּיּ֣וֹם day yôm הַה֔וּא in that hûʾ אֶל to ʾēl נֶ֖שֶׁק the armour nešeq בֵּ֥ית of the house bayit הַיָּֽעַר׃ of the forest. yaʿar

וְאֵ֨ת ʾēt בְּקִיעֵ֧י also the breaches bĕqîaʿ עִיר of the city ʿîr דָּוִ֛ד of David, dāwid רְאִיתֶ֖ם Ye have seen rāʾâ כִּי that kî רָ֑בּוּ they are many: rābab וַֽתְּקַבְּצ֔וּ and ye gathered together qābaṣ אֶת ʾēt מֵ֥י the waters mayim הַבְּרֵכָ֖ה pool. bĕrēkâ הַתַּחְתּוֹנָֽה׃ of the lower taḥtôn

וְאֶת ʾēt בָּתֵּ֥י the houses bayit יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם of Jerusalem, yĕrûšālaim סְפַרְתֶּ֑ם And ye have numbered sāpar וַתִּתְֿצוּ֙ have ye broken down nātaṣ הַבָּ֣תִּ֔ים and the houses bayit לְבַצֵּ֖ר to fortify bāṣar הַחוֹמָֽה׃ the wall. ḥômâ

וּמִקְוָ֣ה׀ also a ditch miqwâ עֲשִׂיתֶ֗ם Ye made ʿāśâ בֵּ֚ין between bên הַחֹ֣מֹתַ֔יִם the two walls ḥômâ לְמֵ֖י for the water mayim הַבְּרֵכָ֣ה pool: bĕrēkâ הַיְשָׁנָ֑ה of the old yāšān וְלֹ֤א but ye have not lōʾ הִבַּטְתֶּם֙ looked nābaṭ אֶל unto ʾēl עֹשֶׂ֔יהָ the maker ʿāśâ וְיֹצְרָ֥הּ unto him that fashioned yāṣar מֵֽרָח֖וֹק it long ago. rāḥôq לֹ֥א thereof, neither lōʾ רְאִיתֶֽם׃ had respect rāʾâ

וַיִּקְרָ֗א call qārāʾ אֲדֹנָ֧י did the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִ֛ה God yĕhōwi צְבָא֖וֹת of hosts ṣābāʾ בַּיּ֣וֹם day yôm הַה֑וּא And in that hûʾ לִבְכִי֙ to weeping, bĕkî וּלְמִסְפֵּ֔ד and to mourning, mispēd וּלְקָרְחָ֖ה and to baldness, qorḥâ וְלַחֲגֹ֥ר and to girding ḥāgar שָֽׂק׃ with sackcloth: śaq

וְהִנֵּ֣ה׀ And behold hinnē שָׂשׂ֣וֹן joy śāśôn וְשִׂמְחָ֗ה and gladness, śimḥâ הָרֹ֤ג׀ slaying hārag בָּקָר֙ oxen, bāqār וְשָׁחֹ֣ט and killing šāḥaṭ צֹ֔אן sheep, ṣōn אָכֹ֥ל eating ʾākal בָּשָׂ֖ר flesh, bāśār וְשָׁת֣וֹת and drinking šātâ יָ֑יִן wine: yayin אָכ֣וֹל let us eat ʾākal וְשָׁת֔וֹ and drink; šātâ כִּ֥י for kî מָחָ֖ר to morrow māḥār נָמֽוּת׃ we shall die. mût

וְנִגְלָ֥ה And it was revealed gālâ בְאָזְנָ֖י in mine ears ʾōzen יְהוָ֣ה God yĕhōwi צְבָא֑וֹת of hosts, ṣābāʾ אִם Surely ʾim יְ֠כֻפַּר shall not be purged kāpar הֶעָוֺ֨ן iniquity ʿāwōn הַזֶּ֤ה this ze לָכֶם֙ עַד from you till ʿad תְּמֻת֔וּן ye die, mût אָמַ֛ר saith ʾāmar אֲדֹנָ֥י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִ֖ה by the Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָאֽוֹת׃ of hosts. ṣābāʾ

כֹּ֥ה Thus kō אָמַ֛ר saith ʾāmar אֲדֹנָ֥י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִ֖ה God yĕhōwi צְבָא֑וֹת of hosts, ṣābāʾ לֶךְ Go, hālak בֹּא֙ get bôʾ אֶל thee unto ʾēl הַסֹּכֵ֣ן treasurer, sākan הַזֶּ֔ה this ze עַל unto ʿal שֶׁבְנָ֖א Shebna, šebnāʾ אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer עַל over ʿal הַבָּֽיִת׃ the house, bayit

מַה What mâ לְּךָ֥ פֹה֙ hast thou here? pō וּמִ֣י and whom mî לְךָ֣ פֹ֔ה hast thou here, pō כִּֽי that kî חָצַ֧בְתָּ thou hast hewed thee out ḥāṣab לְּךָ֛ פֹּ֖ה here, pō קָ֑בֶר a sepulchre qeber חֹצְבִ֤י he that heweth him out ḥāṣab מָרוֹם֙ on high, mārôm קִבְר֔וֹ a sepulchre qeber חֹקְקִ֥י that graveth ḥāqaq בַסֶּ֖לַע for himself in a rock? selaʿ מִשְׁכָּ֥ן an habitation miškān לֽוֹ׃

הִנֵּ֤ה Behold, hinnē יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ מְטַלְטֶלְךָ֔ will carry thee away ṭûl טַלְטֵלָ֖ה captivity, ṭalṭēlâ גָּ֑בֶר with a mighty geber וְעֹטְךָ֖ and will surely ʿāṭâ עָטֹֽה׃ cover thee. ʿāṭâ

צָנ֤וֹף He will surely ṣānap יִצְנָפְךָ֙ violently turn ṣānap צְנֵפָ֔ה and toss ṣĕnēpâ כַּדּ֕וּר thee a ball dûr אֶל into ʾēl אֶ֖רֶץ country: ʾereṣ רַחֲבַ֣ת a large rāḥāb יָדָ֑יִם yād שָׁ֣מָּה there šām תָמ֗וּת shalt thou die, mût וְשָׁ֙מָּה֙ and there šām מַרְכְּב֣וֹת the chariots merkābâ כְּבוֹדֶ֔ךָ of thy glory kābôd קְל֖וֹן the shame qālôn בֵּ֥ית house. bayit אֲדֹנֶֽיךָ׃ of thy lord's ʾādôn

וַהֲדַפְתִּ֖יךָ And I will drive hādap מִמַּצָּבֶ֑ךָ thee from thy station, maṣṣāb וּמִמַּעֲמָֽדְךָ֖ and from thy state maʿămād יֶהֶרְסֶֽךָ׃ shall he pull thee down. hāras

וְהָיָ֖ה And it shall come to pass hāyâ בַּיּ֣וֹם day, yôm הַה֑וּא in that hûʾ וְקָרָ֣אתִי that I will call qārāʾ לְעַבְדִּ֔י my servant ʿebed לְאֶלְיָקִ֖ים Eliakim ʾelyāqîm בֶּן the son bēn חִלְקִיָּֽהוּ׃ of Hilkiah: ḥilqiyyâ

וְהִלְבַּשְׁתִּ֣יו And I will clothe lābaš כֻּתָּנְתֶּ֗ךָ him with thy robe, kĕtōnet וְאַבְנֵֽטְךָ֙ him with thy girdle, ʾabnēṭ אֲחַזְּקֶ֔נּוּ and strengthen ḥāzaq וּמֶֽמְשֶׁלְתְּךָ֖ thy government memšālâ אֶתֵּ֣ן and I will commit nātan בְּיָד֑וֹ into his hand: yād וְהָיָ֥ה and he shall be hāyâ לְאָ֛ב a father ʾāb לְיוֹשֵׁ֥ב to the inhabitants yāšab יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם of Jerusalem, yĕrûšālaim וּלְבֵ֥ית and to the house bayit יְהוּדָֽה׃ of Judah. yĕhûdâ

וְנָתַתִּ֛י will I lay nātan מַפְתֵּ֥חַ And the key maptēaḥ בֵּית of the house bayit דָּוִ֖ד of David dāwid עַל upon ʿal שִׁכְמ֑וֹ his shoulder; šĕkem וּפָתַח֙ so he shall open, pātaḥ וְאֵ֣ין and none ʾayin סֹגֵ֔ר shall shut; sāgar וְסָגַ֖ר and he shall shut, sāgar וְאֵ֥ין and none ʾayin פֹּתֵֽחַ׃ shall open. pātaḥ

וּתְקַעְתִּ֥יו And I will fasten tāqaʿ יָתֵ֖ד him a nail yātēd בְּמָק֣וֹם place; māqôm נֶאֱמָ֑ן in a sure ʾāman וְהָיָ֛ה and he shall be hāyâ לְכִסֵּ֥א throne kissēʾ כָב֖וֹד for a glorious kābôd לְבֵ֥ית house. bayit אָבִֽיו׃ to his father's ʾāb

וְתָל֨וּ And they shall hang tālâ עָלָ֜יו upon ʿal כֹּ֣ל׀ him all kōl כְּב֣וֹד the glory kābôd בֵּית house, bayit אָבִ֗יו of his father's ʾāb הַצֶּֽאֱצָאִים֙ the offspring ṣeʾĕṣāʾ וְהַצְּפִע֔וֹת and the issue, ṣĕpiʿâ כֹּ֖ל all kōl כְּלֵ֣י vessels kĕlî הַקָּטָ֑ן of small quantity, qāṭān מִכְּלֵי֙ from the vessels kĕlî הָֽאַגָּנ֔וֹת of cups, ʾaggān וְעַ֖ד even to ʿad כָּל all kōl כְּלֵ֥י the vessels kĕlî הַנְּבָלִֽים׃ of flagons. nebel

בַּיּ֣וֹם day, yôm הַה֗וּא In that hûʾ נְאֻם֙ saith nĕʾum יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָא֔וֹת of hosts, ṣābāʾ תָּמוּשׁ֙ be removed, mûš הַיָּתֵ֔ד shall the nail yātēd הַתְּקוּעָ֖ה that is fastened tāqaʿ בְּמָק֣וֹם place māqôm נֶאֱמָ֑ן in the sure ʾāman וְנִגְדְּעָ֣ה and be cut down, gādaʿ וְנָפְלָ֗ה and fall; nāpal וְנִכְרַת֙ it shall be cut off: kārat הַמַּשָּׂ֣א and the burden maśśāʾ אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer עָלֶ֔יהָ upon ʿal כִּ֥י for kî יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ דִּבֵּֽר׃ hath spoken dābar
