Matthew 9:14
પછી યોહાનના શિષ્યો ઈસુની પાસે આવ્યા. તેઓએ ઈસુને પૂછયું કે, “અમે અને ફરોશીઓ વારંવાર ઉપવાસ કરીએ છીએ તો તારા શિષ્યો શા માટે ઉપવાસ કરતા નથી?”

ત્યાં કેટલાએક લોકો હતા તેઓ વિચારતા કે તેઓ ઘણા સારા છે. આ લોકો એવી રીતે વર્તતા કે જાણે તેઓ બીજા લોકો કરતાં વધારે સારા છે. ઈસુએ આ વાર્તાનો ઉપયોગ તેઓને શીખવવા માટે કર્યો.

યોહાન બાપ્તિસ્ત જેલમાં હતો. ઈસુ જે કંઈ કરતો હતો તે વિષે તેણે સાંભળ્યું એટલે યોહાને તેના શિષ્યોમાંના કેટલાએકને ઈસુ પાસે મોકલ્યાં.

યોહાનના શિષ્યોમાંથી કેટલાએકનો બીજા એક યહૂદિ સાથે વાદવિવાદ થયો. તેઓ ધાર્મિક શુદ્ધિકરણ માટે દલીલો કરતા હતા.

ફરોશીઓએ સાંભળ્યું કે ઈસુ યોહાન કરતાં વધારે લોકોને તેના શિષ્યો બનાવીને બાપ્તિસ્મા આપે છે.
