וְיוֹסֵ֖ף And Joseph yôsēp הוּרַ֣ד was brought down yārad מִצְרָ֑יְמָה to Egypt; miṣrayim וַיִּקְנֵ֡הוּ bought qānâ פּֽוֹטִיפַר֩ and Potiphar, pôṭîpar סְרִ֨יס an officer sārîs פַּרְעֹ֜ה of Pharaoh, parʿō שַׂ֤ר captain śar הַטַּבָּחִים֙ of the guard, ṭabbāḥ אִ֣ישׁ ʾîš מִצְרִ֔י an Egyptian, miṣrî מִיַּד֙ him of the hands yād הַיִּשְׁמְעֵאלִ֔ים of the Ishmeelites, yišmāʿēʾlî אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer הֽוֹרִדֻ֖הוּ had brought him down yārad שָֽׁמָּה׃ thither. šām

וַיְהִ֤י was hāyâ יְהוָה֙ And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת with ʾēt יוֹסֵ֔ף Joseph, yôsēp וַיְהִ֖י and he was hāyâ אִ֣ישׁ man; ʾĕnôš מַצְלִ֑יחַ a prosperous ṣālaḥ וַיְהִ֕י and he was hāyâ בְּבֵ֥ית in the house bayit אֲדֹנָ֖יו of his master ʾādôn הַמִּצְרִֽי׃ the Egyptian. miṣrî

וַיַּ֣רְא saw rāʾâ אֲדֹנָ֔יו And his master ʾādôn כִּ֥י that kî יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אִתּ֑וֹ with ʾēt וְכֹל֙ made all kōl אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer ה֣וּא he hûʾ עֹשֶׂ֔ה did ʿāśâ יְהוָ֖ה him, and that the Lord yĕhōwâ מַצְלִ֥יחַ to prosper ṣālaḥ בְּיָדֽוֹ׃ in his hand. yād

וַיִּמְצָ֨א found māṣāʾ יוֹסֵ֥ף And Joseph yôsēp חֵ֛ן grace ḥēn בְּעֵינָ֖יו in his sight, ʿayin וַיְשָׁ֣רֶת and he served šārat אֹת֑וֹ ʾēt וַיַּפְקִדֵ֙הוּ֙ him: and he made him overseer pāqad עַל over ʿal בֵּית֔וֹ his house, bayit וְכָל and all kōl יֶשׁ he had yēš ל֖וֹ נָתַ֥ן he put nātan בְּיָדֽוֹ׃ into his hand. yād

וַיְהִ֡י And it came to pass hāyâ מֵאָז֩ from the time ʾāz הִפְקִ֨יד he had made him overseer pāqad אֹת֜וֹ ʾēt בְּבֵית֗וֹ in his house, bayit וְעַל֙ and over ʿal כָּל all kōl אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer יֶשׁ he had, yēš ל֔וֹ וַיְבָ֧רֶךְ blessed bārak יְהוָ֛ה that the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt בֵּ֥ית house bayit הַמִּצְרִ֖י the Egyptian's miṣrî בִּגְלַ֣ל sake; gālāl יוֹסֵ֑ף for Joseph's yôsēp וַיְהִ֞י was hāyâ בִּרְכַּ֤ת and the blessing bĕrākâ יְהוָה֙ of the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּכָל upon all kōl אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer יֶשׁ he had yēš ל֔וֹ בַּבַּ֖יִת in the house, bayit וּבַשָּׂדֶֽה׃ and in the field. śāde

וַיַּֽעֲזֹ֣ב And he left ʿāzab כָּל all kōl אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer לוֹ֮ בְּיַד hand; yād יוֹסֵף֒ he had in Joseph's yôsēp וְלֹֽא not lōʾ יָדַ֤ע and he knew yādaʿ אִתּוֹ֙ he had, ʾēt מְא֔וּמָה ought mĕʾûmâ כִּ֥י kî אִם save ʾim הַלֶּ֖חֶם the bread leḥem אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer ה֣וּא he hûʾ אוֹכֵ֑ל did eat. ʾākal וַיְהִ֣י was hāyâ יוֹסֵ֔ף And Joseph yôsēp יְפֵה yāpe תֹ֖אַר goodly tōʾar וִיפֵ֥ה and well yāpe מַרְאֶֽה׃ favoured. marʾe

וַיְהִ֗י And it came to pass hāyâ אַחַר֙ after ʾaḥar הַדְּבָרִ֣ים things, dābār הָאֵ֔לֶּה these ʾēlle וַתִּשָּׂ֧א cast nāśāʾ אֵֽשֶׁת wife ʾiššâ אֲדֹנָ֛יו that his master's ʾādôn אֶת ʾēt עֵינֶ֖יהָ her eyes ʿayin אֶל upon ʾēl יוֹסֵ֑ף Joseph; yôsēp וַתֹּ֖אמֶר and she said, ʾāmar שִׁכְבָ֥ה Lie šākab עִמִּֽי׃ with me. ʿim

וַיְמָאֵ֓ן׀ But he refused, māʾēn וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ and said ʾāmar אֶל unto ʾēl אֵ֣שֶׁת wife, ʾiššâ אֲדֹנָ֔יו his master's ʾādôn הֵ֣ן Behold, hēn אֲדֹנִ֔י my master ʾādôn לֹֽא not lōʾ יָדַ֥ע wotteth yādaʿ אִתִּ֖י with ʾēt מַה what mâ בַּבָּ֑יִת me in the house, bayit וְכֹ֥ל all kōl אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer יֶשׁ he hath yēš ל֖וֹ נָתַ֥ן and he hath committed nātan בְּיָדִֽי׃ to my hand; yād

אֵינֶ֨נּוּ none ʾayin גָד֜וֹל greater gādôl בַּבַּ֣יִת house bayit הַזֶּה֮ in this ze מִמֶּנִּי֒ than min וְלֹֽא I; neither lōʾ חָשַׂ֤ךְ hath he kept back ḥāśak מִמֶּ֙נִּי֙ from min מְא֔וּמָה any thing mĕʾûmâ כִּ֥י kî אִם me but ʾim אוֹתָ֖ךְ ʾēt בַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר thee, because ʾăšer אַתְּ thou ʾattâ אִשְׁתּ֑וֹ his wife: ʾiššâ וְאֵ֨יךְ how ʾêk אֶֽעֱשֶׂ֜ה then can I do ʿāśâ הָֽרָעָ֤ה wickedness, raʿ הַגְּדֹלָה֙ great gādôl הַזֹּ֔את this zōt וְחָטָ֖אתִי and sin ḥāṭāʾ לֵֽאלֹהִֽים׃ against God? ʾĕlōhîm

וַיְהִ֕י And it came to pass, hāyâ כְּדַבְּרָ֥הּ as she spake dābar אֶל to ʾēl יוֹסֵ֖ף Joseph yôsēp י֣וֹם׀ day yôm י֑וֹם by day, yôm וְלֹֽא not lōʾ שָׁמַ֥ע that he hearkened šāmaʿ אֵלֶ֛יהָ unto ʾēl לִשְׁכַּ֥ב her, to lie šākab אֶצְלָ֖הּ by her, ʾēṣel לִֽהְי֥וֹת to be hāyâ עִמָּֽהּ׃ with her. ʿim

וַֽיְהִי֙ And it came to pass hāyâ כְּהַיּ֣וֹם time, yôm הַזֶּ֔ה about this ze וַיָּבֹ֥א that went bôʾ הַבַּ֖יְתָה into the house bayit לַֽעֲשׂ֣וֹת to do ʿāśâ מְלַאכְתּ֑וֹ his business; mĕlāʾkâ וְאֵ֨ין ʾayin אִ֜ישׁ and none ʾîš מֵֽאַנְשֵׁ֥י of the men ʾîš הַבַּ֛יִת of the house bayit שָׁ֖ם there šām בַּבָּֽיִת׃ within. bayit

וַתִּתְפְּשֵׂ֧הוּ And she caught tāpaś בְּבִגְד֛וֹ him by his garment, beged לֵאמֹ֖ר saying, ʾāmar שִׁכְבָ֣ה Lie šākab עִמִּ֑י with ʿim וַיַּֽעֲזֹ֤ב me: and he left ʿāzab בִּגְדוֹ֙ his garment beged בְּיָדָ֔הּ in her hand, yād וַיָּ֖נָס and fled, nûs וַיֵּצֵ֥א and got yāṣāʾ הַחֽוּצָה׃ him out. ḥûṣ

וַֽיְהִי֙ And it came to pass, hāyâ כִּרְאוֹתָ֔הּ when she saw rāʾâ כִּֽי that kî עָזַ֥ב he had left ʿāzab בִּגְד֖וֹ his garment beged בְּיָדָ֑הּ in her hand, yād וַיָּ֖נָס and was fled nûs הַחֽוּצָה׃ forth, ḥûṣ

וַתִּקְרָ֞א That she called qārāʾ לְאַנְשֵׁ֣י unto the men ʾîš בֵיתָ֗הּ of her house, bayit וַתֹּ֤אמֶר and spake ʾāmar לָהֶם֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר unto them, saying, ʾāmar רְא֗וּ See, rāʾâ הֵ֥בִיא he hath brought in bôʾ לָ֛נוּ אִ֥ישׁ an Hebrew ʾîš עִבְרִ֖י ʿibrî לְצַ֣חֶק unto us to mock ṣāḥaq בָּ֑נוּ בָּ֤א us; he came in bôʾ אֵלַי֙ unto ʾēl לִשְׁכַּ֣ב me to lie šākab עִמִּ֔י with ʿim וָֽאֶקְרָ֖א me, and I cried qārāʾ בְּק֥וֹל voice: qôl גָּדֽוֹל׃ with a loud gādôl

וַיְהִ֣י And it came to pass, hāyâ כְשָׁמְע֔וֹ when he heard šāmaʿ כִּֽי that kî הֲרִימֹ֥תִי I lifted up rûm קוֹלִ֖י my voice qôl וָֽאֶקְרָ֑א and cried, qārāʾ וַיַּֽעֲזֹ֤ב that he left ʿāzab בִּגְדוֹ֙ his garment beged אֶצְלִ֔י with me, ʾēṣel וַיָּ֖נָס and fled, nûs וַיֵּצֵ֥א and got him yāṣāʾ הַחֽוּצָה׃ out. ḥûṣ

וַתַּנַּ֥ח And she laid up yānaḥ בִּגְד֖וֹ his garment beged אֶצְלָ֑הּ by her, ʾēṣel עַד until ʿad בּ֥וֹא came bôʾ אֲדֹנָ֖יו his lord ʾādôn אֶל ʾēl בֵּיתֽוֹ׃ home. bayit

וַתְּדַבֵּ֣ר And she spake dābar אֵלָ֔יו unto ʾēl כַּדְּבָרִ֥ים words, dābār הָאֵ֖לֶּה him according to these ʾēlle לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar בָּֽא thou hast brought bôʾ אֵלַ֞י unto ʾēl הָעֶ֧בֶד servant, ʿebed הָֽעִבְרִ֛י The Hebrew ʿibrî אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer הֵבֵ֥אתָ unto us, came in bôʾ לָּ֖נוּ לְצַ֥חֶק me to mock me: ṣāḥaq בִּֽי׃

וַיְהִ֕י And it came to pass, hāyâ כַּֽהֲרִימִ֥י as I lifted up rûm קוֹלִ֖י my voice qôl וָֽאֶקְרָ֑א and cried, qārāʾ וַיַּֽעֲזֹ֥ב that he left ʿāzab בִּגְד֛וֹ his garment beged אֶצְלִ֖י with me, ʾēṣel וַיָּ֥נָס and fled nûs הַחֽוּצָה׃ out. ḥûṣ

וַיְהִי֩ And it came to pass, hāyâ כִשְׁמֹ֨עַ heard šāmaʿ אֲדֹנָ֜יו when his master ʾādôn אֶת ʾēt דִּבְרֵ֣י the words dābār אִשְׁתּ֗וֹ of his wife, ʾiššâ אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer דִּבְּרָ֤ה she spake dābar אֵלָיו֙ unto ʾēl לֵאמֹ֔ר him, saying, ʾāmar כַּדְּבָרִ֣ים manner dābār הָאֵ֔לֶּה After this ʾēlle עָ֥שָׂהּ did ʿāśâ לִ֖י עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ thy servant ʿebed וַיִּ֖חַר was kindled. ḥārâ אַפּֽוֹ׃ to me; that his wrath ʾap

וַיִּקַּח֩ took lāqaḥ אֲדֹנֵ֨י master ʾādôn יוֹסֵ֜ף And Joseph's yôsēp אֹת֗וֹ ʾēt וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֙הוּ֙ him, and put him nātan אֶל into ʾēl בֵּ֣ית the prison, bayit הַסֹּ֔הַר sōhar מְק֕וֹם a place māqôm אֲשֶׁר where ʾăšer אֲסִורֵ֥י prisoners ʾāsîr הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king's melek אֲסוּרִ֑ים bound: ʾāsar וַֽיְהִי and he was hāyâ שָׁ֖ם there šām בְּבֵ֥ית in the prison. bayit הַסֹּֽהַר׃ sōhar

וַיְהִ֤י was hāyâ יְהוָה֙ But the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת with ʾēt יוֹסֵ֔ף Joseph, yôsēp וַיֵּ֥ט and shewed nāṭâ אֵלָ֖יו ʾēl חָ֑סֶד him mercy, ḥēsēd וַיִּתֵּ֣ן and gave nātan חִנּ֔וֹ him favour ḥēn בְּעֵינֵ֖י in the sight ʿayin שַׂ֥ר of the keeper śar בֵּית of the prison. bayit הַסֹּֽהַר׃ sōhar

וַיִּתֵּ֞ן committed nātan שַׂ֤ר And the keeper śar בֵּית of the prison bayit הַסֹּ֙הַר֙ sōhar בְּיַד hand yād יוֹסֵ֔ף to Joseph's yôsēp אֵ֚ת ʾēt כָּל all kōl הָ֣אֲסִירִ֔ם the prisoners ʾāsîr אֲשֶׁ֖ר that ʾăšer בְּבֵ֣ית in the prison; bayit הַסֹּ֑הַר sōhar וְאֵ֨ת ʾēt כָּל kōl אֲשֶׁ֤ר and whatsoever ʾăšer עֹשִׂים֙ they did ʿāśâ שָׁ֔ם there, šām ה֖וּא he hûʾ הָיָ֥ה was hāyâ עֹשֶֽׂה׃ the doer ʿāśâ

אֵ֣ין׀ not ʾayin שַׂ֣ר The keeper śar בֵּית of the prison bayit הַסֹּ֗הַר sōhar רֹאֶ֤ה looked rāʾâ אֶֽת to ʾēt כָּל kōl מְא֙וּמָה֙ any thing mĕʾûmâ בְּיָד֔וֹ under his hand; yād בַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר because ʾăšer יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אִתּ֑וֹ was with ʾēt וַֽאֲשֶׁר him, and which ʾăšer ה֥וּא he hûʾ עֹשֶׂ֖ה did, ʿāśâ יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ מַצְלִֽיחַ׃ made to prosper. ṣālaḥ
