அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு: நான் தேவனை முகமுகமாய்க் கண்டேன், உயிர் தப்பிப் பிழைத்தேன் என்று சொல்லி, அந்த ஸ்தலத்துக்கு பெனியேல் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

பூர்வகாலந்துவக்கி நான் உன் நுகத்தடியை முறித்து, உன் கட்டுகளை அறுத்தேன்; நான் அடிமைப்படுவதில்லையென்று நீயும் சொன்னாயே; ஆகிலும், உயரமான எல்லா மேட்டின்மேலும், பச்சையான எல்லா மரத்தின்கீழும் நீ வேசியாகத் திரிகிறாய்.

“யூதாவே, நீண்ட காலத்திற்கு முன்பு உன் நுகத்தை எறிந்தாய், நீ கயிறுகளை அறுத்து எறிந்தாய், (அதனை உன்னைக் கட்டுப்படுத்த வைத்திருந்தேன்) ‘நான் உனக்கு சேவை செய்ய மாட்டேன்!’ என்று நீ சொன்னாய். நீ வேசியைப்போன்று மலைகளின் மேலும் ஒவ்வொரு பச்சையான மரங்களின் கீழும் அலைந்தாய்.
