וַיְהִי֩ came hāyâ דְבַר the word dābār יְהוָ֨ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֵלַ֜י unto ʾēl בַּשָּׁנָ֤ה year, šāne הַתְּשִׁיעִית֙ Again in the ninth tĕšîʿî בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ month, ḥōdeš הָעֲשִׂירִ֔י in the tenth ʿăśîrî בֶּעָשׂ֥וֹר in the tenth ʿāśôr לַחֹ֖דֶשׁ of the month, ḥōdeš לֵאמֹֽר׃ me, saying, ʾāmar

בֶּן Son bēn אָדָ֗ם of man, ʾādām כְּתָוב write kātab לְךָ֙ kātab אֶת thee ʾēt שֵׁ֣ם the name šēm הַיּ֔וֹם of the day, yôm אֶת ʾēt עֶ֖צֶם same ʿeṣem הַיּ֣וֹם day: yôm הַזֶּ֑ה of this ze סָמַ֤ךְ set sāmak מֶֽלֶךְ the king melek בָּבֶל֙ of Babylon bābel אֶל himself against ʾēl יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם Jerusalem yĕrûšālaim בְּעֶ֖צֶם same ʿeṣem הַיּ֥וֹם day. yôm הַזֶּֽה׃ this ze

וּמְשֹׁ֤ל And utter māšal אֶל unto ʾēl בֵּית house, bayit הַמֶּ֙רִי֙ the rebellious mĕrî מָשָׁ֔ל a parable māšāl וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ and say ʾāmar אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם unto ʾēl כֹּ֥ה them, Thus kō אָמַ֖ר saith ʾāmar אֲדֹנָ֣י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִ֑ה God; yĕhōwi שְׁפֹ֤ת Set on šāpat הַסִּיר֙ a pot, sîr שְׁפֹ֔ת set on, šāpat וְגַם and also gam יְצֹ֥ק pour yāṣaq בּ֖וֹ מָֽיִם׃ water into it: mayim

אֱסֹ֤ף Gather ʾāsap נְתָחֶ֙יהָ֙ the pieces nētaḥ אֵלֶ֔יהָ thereof into ʾēl כָּל it, every kōl נֵ֥תַח piece, nētaḥ ט֖וֹב good ṭôb יָרֵ֣ךְ the thigh, yārēk וְכָתֵ֑ף and the shoulder; kātēp מִבְחַ֥ר with the choice mibḥār עֲצָמִ֖ים bones. ʿeṣem מַלֵּֽא׃ fill mālēʾ

מִבְחַ֤ר the choice mibḥār הַצֹּאן֙ of the flock, ṣōn לָק֔וֹחַ Take lāqaḥ וְגַ֛ם also gam דּ֥וּר and burn dûr הָעֲצָמִ֖ים the bones ʿeṣem תַּחְתֶּ֑יהָ under taḥat רַתַּ֣ח well, retaḥ רְתָחֶ֔יהָ it, make it boil rātaḥ גַּם and gam בָּשְׁל֥וּ let them seethe bāšal עֲצָמֶ֖יהָ the bones ʿeṣem בְּתוֹכָֽהּ׃ of it therein. tāwek

לָכֵ֞ן Wherefore kēn כֹּה thus kō אָמַ֣ר׀ saith ʾāmar אֲדֹנָ֣י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִֹ֗ה God; yĕhōwi אוֹי֮ Woe ʾôy עִ֣יר city, ʿîr הַדָּמִים֒ to the bloody dām סִ֚יר to the pot sîr אֲשֶׁ֣ר whose ʾăšer חֶלְאָתָ֣ה scum ḥelʾâ בָ֔הּ וְחֶ֨לְאָתָ֔הּ therein, and whose scum ḥelʾâ לֹ֥א is not lōʾ יָצְאָ֖ה gone out yāṣāʾ מִמֶּ֑נָּה of min לִנְתָחֶ֤יהָ piece nētaḥ לִנְתָחֶ֙יהָ֙ by piece; nētaḥ הוֹצִיאָ֔הּ it! bring it out yāṣāʾ לֹא let no lōʾ נָפַ֥ל fall nāpal עָלֶ֖יהָ upon it. ʿal גּוֹרָֽל׃ lot gôrāl

כִּ֤י For kî דָמָהּ֙ her blood dām בְּתוֹכָ֣הּ in the midst tāwek הָיָ֔ה is hāyâ עַל it upon ʿal צְחִ֥יחַ the top ṣĕḥîaḥ סֶ֖לַע of a rock; selaʿ שָׂמָ֑תְהוּ of her; she set śûm לֹ֤א it not lōʾ שְׁפָכַ֙תְהוּ֙ she poured šāpak עַל upon ʿal הָאָ֔רֶץ the ground, ʾereṣ לְכַסּ֥וֹת to cover kāsâ עָלָ֖יו ʿal עָפָֽר׃ it with dust; ʿāpār

לְהַעֲל֤וֹת to come up ʿālâ חֵמָה֙ That it might cause fury ḥēmâ לִנְקֹ֣ם to take nāqam נָקָ֔ם vengeance; nāqām נָתַ֥תִּי I have set nātan אֶת ʾēt דָּמָ֖הּ her blood dām עַל upon ʿal צְחִ֣יחַ the top ṣĕḥîaḥ סָ֑לַע of a rock, selaʿ לְבִלְתִּ֖י that it should not biltî הִכָּסֽוֹת׃ be covered. kāsâ

לָכֵ֗ן Therefore kēn כֹּ֤ה thus kō אָמַר֙ saith ʾāmar אֲדֹנָ֣י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִ֔ה God; yĕhōwâ א֖וֹי Woe ʾôy עִ֣יר city! ʿîr הַדָּמִ֑ים to the bloody dām גַּם will even gam אֲנִ֖י I ʾănî אַגְדִּ֥יל for fire great. gādal הַמְּדוּרָֽה׃ make the pile mĕdûrâ

הַרְבֵּ֤ה Heap on rābâ הָעֵצִים֙ wood, ʿēṣ הַדְלֵ֣ק kindle dālaq הָאֵ֔שׁ the fire, ʾēš הָתֵ֖ם consume tāmam הַבָּשָׂ֑ר the flesh, bāśār וְהַרְקַח֙ and spice rāqaḥ הַמֶּרְקָחָ֔ה it well, merqāḥâ וְהָעֲצָמ֖וֹת and let the bones ʿeṣem יֵחָֽרוּ׃ be burned. ḥārar

וְהַעֲמִידֶ֥הָ Then set ʿāmad עַל upon ʿal גֶּחָלֶ֖יהָ the coals geḥel רֵקָ֑ה it empty rêq לְמַ֨עַן thereof, that maʿan תֵּחַ֜ם of it may be hot, yāḥam וְחָ֣רָה and may burn, ḥārar נְחֻשְׁתָּ֗הּ the brass nĕḥōšet וְנִתְּכָ֤ה of it may be molten nātak בְתוֹכָהּ֙ in it, tāwek טֻמְאָתָ֔הּ and the filthiness ṭumʾâ תִּתֻּ֖ם of it may be consumed. tāmam חֶלְאָתָֽהּ׃ the scum ḥelʾâ

תְּאֻנִ֖ים with lies, tĕʾun הֶלְאָ֑ת She hath wearied lāʾâ וְלֹֽא lōʾ תֵצֵ֤א went not forth yāṣāʾ מִמֶּ֙נָּה֙ out of min רַבַּ֣ת and her great rab חֶלְאָתָ֔הּ scum ḥelʾâ בְּאֵ֖שׁ in the fire. ʾēš חֶלְאָתָֽהּ׃ her: her scum ḥelʾâ

בְּטֻמְאָתֵ֖ךְ In thy filthiness ṭumʾâ זִמָּ֑ה lewdness: zimmâ יַ֤עַן because yaʿan טִֽהַרְתִּיךְ֙ I have purged ṭāhēr וְלֹ֣א thee, and thou wast not lōʾ טָהַ֔רְתְּ purged, ṭāhēr מִטֻּמְאָתֵךְ֙ from thy filthiness ṭumʾâ לֹ֣א thou shalt not lōʾ תִטְהֲרִי be purged ṭāhēr ע֔וֹד any more, ʿôd עַד till ʿad הֲנִיחִ֥י to rest upon thee. nûaḥ אֶת I have caused ʾēt חֲמָתִ֖י my fury ḥēmâ בָּֽךְ׃

אֲנִ֨י I ʾănî יְהוָ֤ה the Lord yĕhōwâ דִּבַּ֙רְתִּי֙ have spoken dābar בָּאָ֣ה it shall come to pass, bôʾ וְעָשִׂ֔יתִי and I will do ʿāśâ לֹֽא I will not lōʾ אֶפְרַ֥ע go back, pāraʿ וְלֹא neither lōʾ אָח֖וּס will I spare, ḥûs וְלֹ֣א neither lōʾ אֶנָּחֵ֑ם will I repent; nāḥam כִּדְרָכַ֤יִךְ according to thy ways, derek וְכַעֲלִילוֹתַ֙יִךְ֙ and according to thy doings, ʿălîlâ שְׁפָט֔וּךְ shall they judge šāpaṭ נְאֻ֖ם thee, saith nĕʾum אֲדֹנָ֥י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִֹֽה׃ God. yĕhōwi

וַיְהִ֥י came hāyâ דְבַר Also the word dābār יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֵלַ֥י unto ʾēl לֵאמֹֽר׃ me, saying, ʾāmar

בֶּן Son bēn אָדָ֕ם of man, ʾādām הִנְנִ֨י behold, hēn לֹקֵ֧חַ I take away lāqaḥ מִמְּךָ֛ from min אֶת thee ʾēt מַחְמַ֥ד the desire maḥmād עֵינֶ֖יךָ of thine eyes ʿayin בְּמַגֵּפָ֑ה with a stroke: maggēpâ וְלֹ֤א yet neither lōʾ תִסְפֹּד֙ shalt thou mourn sāpad וְלֹ֣א nor lōʾ תִבְכֶּ֔ה weep, bākâ וְל֥וֹא neither lōʾ תָב֖וֹא run down. bôʾ דִּמְעָתֶֽךָ׃ shall thy tears dimʿâ

הֵאָנֵ֣ק׀ to cry, ʾānaq דֹּ֗ם Forbear dāmam מֵתִים֙ for the dead, mût אֵ֣בֶל mourning ʾēbel לֹֽא no lōʾ תַֽעֲשֶׂ֔ה make ʿāśâ פְאֵֽרְךָ֙ the tire of thine head pĕʾēr חֲב֣וֹשׁ bind ḥābaš עָלֶ֔יךָ upon ʿal וּנְעָלֶ֖יךָ thy shoes naʿal תָּשִׂ֣ים thee, and put on śûm בְּרַגְלֶ֑יךָ upon thy feet, regel וְלֹ֤א not lōʾ תַעְטֶה֙ and cover ʿāṭâ עַל ʿal שָׂפָ֔ם lips, śāpām וְלֶ֥חֶם the bread leḥem אֲנָשִׁ֖ים of men. ʾîš לֹ֥א not lōʾ תֹאכֵֽל׃ and eat ʾākal

וָאֲדַבֵּ֤ר So I spake dābar אֶל unto ʾēl הָעָם֙ the people ʿam בַּבֹּ֔קֶר in the morning: bōqer וַתָּ֥מָת died; mût אִשְׁתִּ֖י my wife ʾiššâ בָּעָ֑רֶב and at even ʿereb וָאַ֥עַשׂ and I did ʿāśâ בַּבֹּ֖קֶר in the morning bōqer כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ʾăšer צֻוֵּֽיתִי׃ I was commanded. ṣāwâ

וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ said ʾāmar אֵלַ֖י unto ʾēl הָעָ֑ם And the people ʿam הֲלֹֽא me, Wilt thou not lōʾ תַגִּ֥יד tell nāgad לָ֙נוּ֙ מָה us what mâ אֵ֣לֶּה these ʾēlle לָּ֔נוּ כִּ֥י to us, that kî אַתָּ֖ה thou ʾattâ עֹשֶֽׂה׃ doest ʿāśâ

וָאֹמַ֖ר Then I answered ʾāmar אֲלֵיהֶ֑ם ʾēl דְּבַ֨ר them, The word dābār יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ הָיָ֥ה came hāyâ אֵלַ֖י unto ʾēl לֵאמֹֽר׃ me, saying, ʾāmar

אֱמֹ֣ר׀ Speak ʾāmar לְבֵ֣ית unto the house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl כֹּֽה Thus kō אָמַר֮ saith ʾāmar אֲדֹנָ֣י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִה֒ God; yĕhōwi הִנְנִ֨י Behold, hēn מְחַלֵּ֤ל I will profane ḥālal אֶת ʾēt מִקְדָּשִׁי֙ my sanctuary, miqdoš גְּא֣וֹן the excellency gāʾôn עֻזְּכֶ֔ם of your strength, ʿōz מַחְמַ֥ד the desire maḥmād עֵֽינֵיכֶ֖ם of your eyes, ʿayin וּמַחְמַ֣ל pitieth; maḥmāl נַפְשְׁכֶ֑ם and that which your soul nepeš וּבְנֵיכֶ֧ם and your sons bēn וּבְנֽוֹתֵיכֶ֛ם and your daughters bat אֲשֶׁ֥ר whom ʾăšer עֲזַבְתֶּ֖ם ye have left ʿāzab בַּחֶ֥רֶב by the sword. ḥereb יִפֹּֽלוּ׃ shall fall nāpal

וַעֲשִׂיתֶ֖ם And ye shall do ʿāśâ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר as ʾăšer עָשִׂ֑יתִי I have done: ʿāśâ עַל ʿal שָׂפָם֙ lips, śāpām לֹ֣א ye shall not lōʾ תַעְט֔וּ cover ʿāṭâ וְלֶ֥חֶם the bread leḥem אֲנָשִׁ֖ים of men. ʾîš לֹ֥א nor lōʾ תֹאכֵֽלוּ׃ eat ʾākal

וּפְאֵרֵכֶ֣ם And your tires pĕʾēr עַל upon ʿal רָאשֵׁיכֶ֗ם your heads, rōš וְנַֽעֲלֵיכֶם֙ and your shoes naʿal בְּרַגְלֵיכֶ֔ם upon your feet: regel לֹ֥א ye shall not lōʾ תִסְפְּד֖וּ mourn sāpad וְלֹ֣א nor lōʾ תִבְכּ֑וּ weep; bākâ וּנְמַקֹּתֶם֙ but ye shall pine away māqaq בַּעֲוֹנֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם for your iniquities, ʿāwōn וּנְהַמְתֶּ֖ם and mourn nāham אִ֥ישׁ one ʾîš אֶל toward ʾēl אָחִֽיו׃ another. ʾāḥ

וְהָיָ֨ה is hāyâ יְחֶזְקֵ֤אל Thus Ezekiel yĕḥezqēl לָכֶם֙ לְמוֹפֵ֔ת unto you a sign: môpēt כְּכֹ֥ל according to all kōl אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer עָשָׂ֖ה he hath done ʿāśâ תַּעֲשׂ֑וּ shall ye do: ʿāśâ בְּבוֹאָ֕הּ and when this cometh, bôʾ וִֽידַעְתֶּ֕ם ye shall know yādaʿ כִּ֥י that kî אֲנִ֖י I ʾănî אֲדֹנָ֥י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִֽה׃ God. yĕhōwi

וְאַתָּ֣ה Also, thou ʾattâ בֶן son bēn אָדָ֔ם of man, ʾādām הֲל֗וֹא not lōʾ בְּי֨וֹם in the day yôm קַחְתִּ֤י when I take lāqaḥ מֵהֶם֙ hēm אֶת from them ʾēt מָ֣עוּזָּ֔ם their strength, māʿôz מְשׂ֖וֹשׂ the joy māśôś תִּפְאַרְתָּ֑ם of their glory, tipʾārâ אֶת ʾēt מַחְמַ֤ד the desire maḥmād עֵֽינֵיהֶם֙ of their eyes, ʿayin וְאֶת ʾēt מַשָּׂ֣א and that whereupon they set maśśāʾ נַפְשָׁ֔ם their minds, nepeš בְּנֵיהֶ֖ם their sons bēn וּבְנוֹתֵיהֶֽם׃ and their daughters, bat

בַּיּ֣וֹם day yôm הַה֔וּא in that hûʾ יָב֥וֹא shall come bôʾ הַפָּלִ֖יט he that escapeth pālîṭ אֵלֶ֑יךָ unto ʾēl לְהַשְׁמָע֖וּת thee, to cause to hear hašmāʿût אָזְנָֽיִם׃ with ears? ʾōzen

בַּיּ֣וֹם day yôm הַה֗וּא In that hûʾ יִפָּ֤תַח be opened pātaḥ פִּ֙יךָ֙ shall thy mouth pe אֶת ʾēt הַפָּלִ֔יט to him which is escaped, pālîṭ וּתְדַבֵּ֕ר and thou shalt speak, dābar וְלֹ֥א lōʾ תֵֽאָלֵ֖ם and be no more dumb: ʾālam ע֑וֹד ʿôd וְהָיִ֤יתָ and thou shalt be hāyâ לָהֶם֙ לְמוֹפֵ֔ת a sign môpēt וְיָדְע֖וּ unto them; and they shall know yādaʿ כִּֽי that kî אֲנִ֥י I ʾănî יְהוָֽה׃ the Lord. yĕhōwâ
