אָ֖ז Then ʾāz אָמַ֣ר said ʾāmar שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה Solomon, šĕlōmō יְהוָ֣ה The Lord yĕhōwâ אָמַ֔ר hath said ʾāmar לִשְׁכּ֖וֹן that he would dwell šākan בָּֽעֲרָפֶֽל׃ in the thick darkness. ʿărāpel

וַֽאֲנִ֛י But I ʾănî בָּנִ֥יתִי have built bānâ בֵית an house bayit זְבֻ֖ל of habitation zĕbûl לָ֑ךְ וּמָכ֥וֹן for thee, and a place mākôn לְשִׁבְתְּךָ֖ for thy dwelling yāšab עֽוֹלָמִֽים׃ for ever. ʿôlām

וַיַּסֵּ֤ב turned sābab הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ And the king melek אֶת ʾēt פָּנָ֔יו his face, pānîm וַיְבָ֕רֶךְ and blessed bārak אֵ֖ת ʾēt כָּל the whole kōl קְהַ֣ל congregation qāhāl יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel: yiśrāʾēl וְכָל and all kōl קְהַ֥ל the congregation qāhāl יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl עוֹמֵֽד׃ stood. ʿāmad

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar בָּר֤וּךְ Blessed bārak יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֣י God ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl אֲשֶׁר֙ which ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֣ר he spake dābar בְּפִ֔יו with his mouth pe אֵ֖ת to ʾēt דָּוִ֣יד David, dāwid אָבִ֑י my father ʾāb וּבְיָדָ֥יו who hath with his hands yād מִלֵּ֖א fulfilled mālēʾ לֵאמֹֽר׃ saying, ʾāmar

מִן Since min הַיּ֗וֹם the day yôm אֲשֶׁ֨ר that ʾăšer הוֹצֵ֣אתִי I brought forth yāṣāʾ אֶת ʾēt עַמִּי֮ my people ʿam מֵאֶ֣רֶץ out of the land ʾereṣ מִצְרַיִם֒ of Egypt miṣrayim לֹֽא no lōʾ בָחַ֣רְתִּֽי I chose bāḥar בְעִ֗יר city ʿîr מִכֹּל֙ among all kōl שִׁבְטֵ֣י the tribes šēbeṭ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl לִבְנ֣וֹת to build bānâ בַּ֔יִת an house bayit לִֽהְי֥וֹת might be hāyâ שְׁמִ֖י in, that my name šēm שָׁ֑ם there; šām וְלֹֽא neither lōʾ בָחַ֣רְתִּֽי chose bāḥar בְאִ֔ישׁ I any man ʾîš לִֽהְי֥וֹת to be hāyâ נָגִ֖יד a ruler nāgîd עַל over ʿal עַמִּ֥י my people ʿam יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Israel: yiśrāʾēl

וָֽאֶבְחַר֙ But I have chosen bāḥar בִּיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם Jerusalem, yĕrûšālaim לִֽהְי֥וֹת might be hāyâ שְׁמִ֖י that my name šēm שָׁ֑ם there; šām וָֽאֶבְחַ֣ר and have chosen bāḥar בְּדָוִ֔יד David dāwid לִֽהְי֖וֹת to be hāyâ עַל over ʿal עַמִּ֥י my people ʿam יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Israel. yiśrāʾēl

וַיְהִ֕י Now it was hāyâ עִם in ʿim לְבַ֖ב the heart lēbāb דָּוִ֣יד of David dāwid אָבִ֑י my father ʾāb לִבְנ֣וֹת to build bānâ בַּ֔יִת an house bayit לְשֵׁ֥ם for the name šēm יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֥י God ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel. yiśrāʾēl

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוָה֙ But the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל to ʾēl דָּוִ֣יד David dāwid אָבִ֔י my father, ʾāb יַ֗עַן yaʿan אֲשֶׁ֤ר ʾăšer הָיָה֙ as it was hāyâ עִם in ʿim לְבָ֣בְךָ֔ thine heart lēbāb לִבְנ֥וֹת to build bānâ בַּ֖יִת an house bayit לִשְׁמִ֑י for my name, šēm הֱֽטִיב֔וֹתָ thou didst well ṭôb כִּ֥י Forasmuch kî הָיָ֖ה in that it was hāyâ עִם in ʿim לְבָבֶֽךָ׃ thine heart: lēbāb

רַ֣ק Notwithstanding raq אַתָּ֔ה thou ʾattâ לֹ֥א shalt not lōʾ תִבְנֶ֖ה build bānâ הַבָּ֑יִת the house; bayit כִּ֤י but kî בִנְךָ֙ thy son bēn הַיּוֹצֵ֣א which shall come forth yāṣāʾ מֵֽחֲלָצֶ֔יךָ out of thy loins, ḥālāṣ הֽוּא he hûʾ יִבְנֶ֥ה shall build bānâ הַבַּ֖יִת the house bayit לִשְׁמִֽי׃ for my name. šēm

וַיָּ֣קֶם therefore hath performed qûm יְהוָ֔ה The Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt דְּבָר֖וֹ his word dābār אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer דִּבֵּ֑ר he hath spoken: dābar וָֽאָק֡וּם for I am risen up qûm תַּחַת֩ in the room taḥat דָּוִ֨יד of David dāwid אָבִ֜י my father, ʾāb וָֽאֵשֵׁ֣ב׀ and am set yāšab עַל on ʿal כִּסֵּ֣א the throne kissēʾ יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl כַּֽאֲשֶׁר֙ as ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֣ר promised, dābar יְהוָ֔ה the Lord yĕhōwâ וָֽאֶבְנֶ֣ה and have built bānâ הַבַּ֔יִת the house bayit לְשֵׁ֥ם for the name šēm יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֥י God ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel. yiśrāʾēl

וָֽאָשִׂ֥ים have I put śûm שָׁם֙ And in it šām אֶת ʾēt הָ֣אָר֔וֹן the ark, ʾārôn אֲשֶׁר wherein ʾăšer שָׁ֖ם šām בְּרִ֣ית the covenant bĕrît יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer כָּרַ֖ת he made kārat עִם with ʿim בְּנֵ֥י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel. yiśrāʾēl

וַֽיַּעֲמֹ֗ד And he stood ʿāmad לִפְנֵי֙ before pānîm מִזְבַּ֣ח the altar mizbēaḥ יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ נֶ֖גֶד in the presence of neged כָּל all kōl קְהַ֣ל the congregation qāhāl יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl וַיִּפְרֹ֖שׂ and spread forth pāraś כַּפָּֽיו׃ his hands: kap

כִּֽי For kî עָשָׂ֨ה had made ʿāśâ שְׁלֹמֹ֜ה Solomon šĕlōmō כִּיּ֣וֹר scaffold, kiyyôr נְחֹ֗שֶׁת a brasen nĕḥōšet וַֽיִּתְּנֵהוּ֮ and had set nātan בְּת֣וֹךְ it in the midst tāwek הָֽעֲזָרָה֒ of the court: ʿăzārâ חָמֵ֨שׁ of five ḥāmēš אַמּ֜וֹת cubits ʾammâ אָרְכּ֗וֹ long, ʾōrek וְחָמֵ֤שׁ and five ḥāmēš אַמּוֹת֙ cubits ʾammâ רָחְבּ֔וֹ broad, rōḥab וְאַמּ֥וֹת cubits ʾammâ שָׁל֖וֹשׁ and three šālôš קֽוֹמָת֑וֹ high, qômâ וַיַּֽעֲמֹ֣ד it he stood, ʿāmad עָלָ֗יו and upon ʿal וַיִּבְרַ֤ךְ and kneeled down bārak עַל upon ʿal בִּרְכָּיו֙ his knees berek נֶ֚גֶד before neged כָּל all kōl קְהַ֣ל the congregation qāhāl יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl וַיִּפְרֹ֥שׂ and spread forth pāraś כַּפָּ֖יו his hands kap הַשָּׁמָֽיְמָה׃ toward heaven, šāmayim

וַיֹּאמַ֗ר And said, ʾāmar יְהוָ֞ה O Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֤י God ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel, yiśrāʾēl אֵין no ʾayin כָּמ֣וֹךָ like thee kĕmô אֱלֹהִ֔ים God ʾĕlōhîm בַּשָּׁמַ֖יִם in the heaven, šāmayim וּבָאָ֑רֶץ nor in the earth; ʾereṣ שֹׁמֵ֤ר which keepest šāmar הַבְּרִית֙ covenant, bĕrît וְֽהַחֶ֔סֶד and mercy ḥēsēd לַֽעֲבָדֶ֕יךָ unto thy servants, ʿebed הַהֹֽלְכִ֥ים that walk hālak לְפָנֶ֖יךָ before pānîm בְּכָל thee with all kōl לִבָּֽם׃ their hearts: lēb

אֲשֶׁ֣ר Thou which ʾăšer שָׁמַ֗רְתָּ hast kept šāmar לְעַבְדְּךָ֙ with thy servant ʿebed דָּוִ֣יד David dāwid אָבִ֔י my father ʾāb אֵ֥ת ʾēt אֲשֶׁר that which ʾăšer דִּבַּ֖רְתָּ thou hast promised dābar ל֑וֹ וַתְּדַבֵּ֥ר him; and spakest dābar בְּפִ֛יךָ with thy mouth, pe וּבְיָֽדְךָ֥ with thine hand, yād מִלֵּ֖אתָ and hast fulfilled mālēʾ כַּיּ֥וֹם day. yôm הַזֶּֽה׃ as this ze

וְעַתָּ֞ה Now ʿattâ יְהוָ֣ה׀ therefore, O Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֣י God ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl שְׁ֠מֹר keep šāmar לְעַבְדְּךָ֙ with thy servant ʿebed דָוִ֤יד David dāwid אָבִי֙ my father ʾāb אֵת֩ ʾēt אֲשֶׁ֨ר that which ʾăšer דִּבַּ֤רְתָּ thou hast promised dābar לּוֹ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר him, saying, ʾāmar לֹֽא There shall not lōʾ יִכָּרֵ֨ת fail kārat לְךָ֥ אִישׁ֙ thee a man ʾîš מִלְּפָנַ֔י in my sight pānîm יוֹשֵׁ֖ב to sit yāšab עַל upon ʿal כִּסֵּ֣א the throne kissēʾ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel; yiśrāʾēl רַ֠ק yet so raq אִם ʾim יִשְׁמְר֨וּ take heed šāmar בָנֶ֜יךָ that thy children bēn אֶת ʾēt דַּרְכָּ֗ם to their way derek לָלֶ֙כֶת֙ to walk hālak בְּת֣וֹרָתִ֔י in my law, tôrâ כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ʾăšer הָלַ֖כְתָּ thou hast walked hālak לְפָנָֽי׃ before me. pānîm

וְעַתָּ֕ה Now ʿattâ יְהוָ֖ה then, O Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֣י God ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl יֵֽאָמֵן֙ be verified, ʾāman דְּבָ֣רְךָ֔ let thy word dābār אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer דִּבַּ֖רְתָּ thou hast spoken dābar לְעַבְדְּךָ֥ unto thy servant ʿebed לְדָוִֽיד׃ David. dāwid

כִּ֚י But kî הַֽאֻמְנָ֔ם in very deed ʾumnām יֵשֵׁ֧ב dwell yāšab אֱלֹהִ֛ים will God ʾĕlōhîm אֶת with ʾēt הָֽאָדָ֖ם men ʾādām עַל on ʿal הָאָ֑רֶץ the earth? ʾereṣ הִ֠נֵּה behold, hinnē שָׁמַ֜יִם heaven šāmayim וּשְׁמֵ֤י and the heaven šāmayim הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ of heavens šāmayim לֹ֣א cannot lōʾ יְכַלְכְּל֔וּךָ contain kûl אַ֕ף thee; how much less ʾap כִּֽי kî הַבַּ֥יִת house bayit הַזֶּ֖ה this ze אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer בָּנִֽיתִי׃ I have built! bānâ

וּפָנִ֜יתָ Have respect pānâ אֶל therefore to ʾēl תְּפִלַּ֧ת the prayer tĕpillâ עַבְדְּךָ֛ of thy servant, ʿebed וְאֶל and to ʾēl תְּחִנָּת֖וֹ his supplication, tĕḥinnâ יְהוָ֣ה O Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהָ֑י my God, ʾĕlōhîm לִשְׁמֹ֤עַ to hearken šāmaʿ אֶל unto ʾēl הָֽרִנָּה֙ the cry rinnâ וְאֶל ʾēl הַתְּפִלָּ֔ה and the prayer tĕpillâ אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer עַבְדְּךָ֖ thy servant ʿebed מִתְפַּלֵּ֥ל prayeth pālal לְפָנֶֽיךָ׃ before thee: pānîm

לִֽהְיוֹת֩ may be hāyâ עֵינֶ֨יךָ That thine eyes ʿayin פְתֻח֜וֹת open pātaḥ אֶל upon ʾēl הַבַּ֤יִת house bayit הַזֶּה֙ this ze יוֹמָ֣ם day yômām וָלַ֔יְלָה and night, layil אֶל upon ʾēl הַ֨מָּק֔וֹם the place māqôm אֲשֶׁ֣ר whereof ʾăšer אָמַ֔רְתָּ thou hast said ʾāmar לָשׂ֥וּם that thou wouldest put śûm שִׁמְךָ֖ thy name šēm שָׁ֑ם there; šām לִשְׁמ֙וֹעַ֙ to hearken šāmaʿ אֶל unto ʾēl הַתְּפִלָּ֔ה the prayer tĕpillâ אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer יִתְפַּלֵּ֣ל prayeth pālal עַבְדְּךָ֔ thy servant ʿebed אֶל toward ʾēl הַמָּק֖וֹם place. māqôm הַזֶּֽה׃ this ze

וְשָׁ֨מַעְתָּ֜ Hearken šāmaʿ אֶל therefore unto ʾēl תַּֽחֲנוּנֵ֤י the supplications taḥănûn עַבְדְּךָ֙ of thy servant, ʿebed וְעַמְּךָ֣ and of thy people ʿam יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel, yiśrāʾēl אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer יִֽתְפַּלְל֖וּ they shall make pālal אֶל toward ʾēl הַמָּק֣וֹם place: māqôm הַזֶּ֑ה this ze וְ֠אַתָּה thou ʾattâ תִּשְׁמַ֞ע hear šāmaʿ מִמְּק֤וֹם place, māqôm שִׁבְתְּךָ֙ from thy dwelling yāšab מִן from min הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם heaven; šāmayim וְשָֽׁמַעְתָּ֖ and when thou hearest, šāmaʿ וְסָלָֽחְתָּ׃ forgive. sālaḥ

אִם If ʾim יֶֽחֱטָ֥א sin ḥāṭāʾ אִישׁ֙ a man ʾîš לְרֵעֵ֔הוּ against his neighbour, rēaʿ וְנָֽשָׁא be laid nāśāʾ ב֥וֹ אָלָ֖ה upon him to make him swear, ʾālâ לְהַֽאֲלֹת֑וֹ and an oath ʾālâ וּבָ֗א come bôʾ אָלָ֛ה and the oath ʾālâ לִפְנֵ֥י before pānîm מִֽזְבַּחֲךָ֖ thine altar mizbēaḥ בַּבַּ֥יִת house; bayit הַזֶּֽה׃ in this ze

וְאַתָּ֣ה׀ thou ʾattâ תִּשְׁמַ֣ע Then hear šāmaʿ מִן from min הַשָּׁמַ֗יִם heaven, šāmayim וְעָשִׂ֙יתָ֙ and do, ʿāśâ וְשָֽׁפַטְתָּ֣ and judge šāpaṭ אֶת ʾēt עֲבָדֶ֔יךָ thy servants, ʿebed לְהָשִׁ֣יב by requiting šûb לְרָשָׁ֔ע the wicked, rāšāʿ לָתֵ֥ת by recompensing nātan דַּרְכּ֖וֹ his way derek בְּרֹאשׁ֑וֹ upon his own head; rōš וּלְהַצְדִּ֣יק and by justifying ṣādaq צַדִּ֔יק the righteous, ṣaddîq לָ֥תֶת by giving nātan ל֖וֹ כְּצִדְקָתֽוֹ׃ him according to his righteousness. ṣĕdāqâ

וְֽאִם And if ʾim יִנָּגֵ֞ף be put to the worse nāgap עַמְּךָ֧ thy people ʿam יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל Israel yiśrāʾēl לִפְנֵ֥י before pānîm אוֹיֵ֖ב the enemy, ʾōyēb כִּ֣י because kî יֶֽחֶטְאוּ they have sinned ḥāṭāʾ לָ֑ךְ וְשָׁ֙בוּ֙ against thee; and shall return šûb וְהוֹד֣וּ and confess yādâ אֶת ʾēt שְׁמֶ֔ךָ thy name, šēm וְהִתְפַּֽלְל֧וּ and pray pālal וְהִֽתְחַנְּנ֛וּ and make supplication ḥānan לְפָנֶ֖יךָ before pānîm בַּבַּ֥יִת house; bayit הַזֶּֽה׃ thee in this ze

וְאַתָּה֙ thou ʾattâ תִּשְׁמַ֣ע Then hear šāmaʿ מִן from min הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם the heavens, šāmayim וְסָ֣לַחְתָּ֔ and forgive sālaḥ לְחַטַּ֖את the sin ḥaṭṭāʾâ עַמְּךָ֣ of thy people ʿam יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel, yiśrāʾēl וַהֲשֵֽׁיבוֹתָם֙ and bring them again šûb אֶל unto ʾēl הָ֣אֲדָמָ֔ה the land ʾădāmâ אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer נָתַ֥תָּה thou gavest nātan לָהֶ֖ם hēm וְלַאֲבֹֽתֵיהֶֽם׃ to them and to their fathers. ʾāb

בְּהֵֽעָצֵ֧ר is shut up, ʿāṣār הַשָּׁמַ֛יִם When the heaven šāmayim וְלֹֽא no lōʾ יִהְיֶ֥ה and there is hāyâ מָטָ֖ר rain, māṭar כִּ֣י because kî יֶֽחֶטְאוּ they have sinned ḥāṭāʾ לָ֑ךְ וְהִֽתְפַּֽלְל֞וּ against thee; if they pray pālal אֶל toward ʾēl הַמָּק֤וֹם place, māqôm הַזֶּה֙ this ze וְהוֹד֣וּ and confess yādâ אֶת ʾēt שְׁמֶ֔ךָ thy name, šēm מֵֽחַטָּאתָ֥ם from their sin, ḥaṭṭāʾâ יְשׁוּב֖וּן and turn šûb כִּ֥י when kî תַֽעֲנֵֽם׃ thou dost afflict them; ʿānâ

וְאַתָּ֣ה׀ thou ʾattâ תִּשְׁמַ֣ע Then hear šāmaʿ הַשָּׁמַ֗יִם from heaven, šāmayim וְסָ֨לַחְתָּ֜ and forgive sālaḥ לְחַטַּ֤את the sin ḥaṭṭāʾâ עֲבָדֶ֙יךָ֙ of thy servants, ʿebed וְעַמְּךָ֣ and of thy people ʿam יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel, yiśrāʾēl כִּ֥י when kî תוֹרֵ֛ם thou hast taught yārâ אֶל ʾēl הַדֶּ֥רֶךְ way, derek הַטּוֹבָ֖ה them the good ṭôb אֲשֶׁ֣ר wherein ʾăšer יֵֽלְכוּ they should walk; hālak בָ֑הּ וְנָֽתַתָּ֤ה and send nātan מָטָר֙ rain māṭar עַֽל upon ʿal אַרְצְךָ֔ thy land, ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer נָתַ֥תָּה thou hast given nātan לְעַמְּךָ֖ unto thy people ʿam לְנַֽחֲלָֽה׃ for an inheritance. naḥălâ

רָעָ֞ב dearth rāʿāb כִּֽי If kî יִהְיֶ֣ה there be hāyâ בָאָ֗רֶץ in the land, ʾereṣ דֶּ֣בֶר pestilence, deber כִּֽי if kî יִ֠הְיֶה there be hāyâ שִׁדָּפ֨וֹן blasting, šĕdēpâ וְיֵֽרָק֜וֹן or mildew, yērāqôn אַרְבֶּ֤ה locusts, ʾarbe וְחָסִיל֙ or caterpillers; ḥāsîl כִּ֣י if kî יִֽהְיֶ֔ה there be hāyâ כִּ֧י if kî יָֽצַר besiege ṣārar ל֛וֹ אֹיְבָ֖יו their enemies ʾōyēb בְּאֶ֣רֶץ of their land; ʾereṣ שְׁעָרָ֑יו them in the cities šaʿar כָּל whatsoever kōl נֶ֖גַע sore negaʿ וְכָֽל or whatsoever kōl מַחֲלָֽה׃ sickness maḥăle

כָּל what kōl תְּפִלָּ֣ה prayer tĕpillâ כָל what kōl תְּחִנָּ֗ה supplication tĕḥinnâ אֲשֶׁ֤ר soever ʾăšer יִֽהְיֶה֙ shall be made hāyâ לְכָל of any kōl הָ֣אָדָ֔ם man, ʾādām וּלְכֹ֖ל or of all kōl עַמְּךָ֣ thy people ʿam יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel, yiśrāʾēl אֲשֶׁ֣ר when ʾăšer יֵֽדְע֗וּ shall know yādaʿ אִ֤ישׁ every one ʾîš נִגְעוֹ֙ his own sore negaʿ וּמַכְאֹב֔וֹ and his own grief, makʾōb וּפָרַ֥שׂ and shall spread forth pāraś כַּפָּ֖יו his hands kap אֶל in ʾēl הַבַּ֥יִת house: bayit הַזֶּֽה׃ this ze

וְ֠אַתָּה thou ʾattâ תִּשְׁמַ֨ע Then hear šāmaʿ מִן from min הַשָּׁמַ֜יִם heaven šāmayim מְכ֤וֹן place, mākôn שִׁבְתֶּ֙ךָ֙ thy dwelling yāšab וְסָ֣לַחְתָּ֔ and forgive, sālaḥ וְנָֽתַתָּ֤ה and render nātan לָאִישׁ֙ unto every man ʾîš כְּכָל according unto all kōl דְּרָכָ֔יו his ways, derek אֲשֶׁ֥ר ʾăšer תֵּדַ֖ע thou knowest; yādaʿ אֶת ʾēt לְבָב֑וֹ whose heart lēbāb כִּ֤י (for kî אַתָּה֙ thou ʾattâ לְבַדְּךָ֣ only bad יָדַ֔עְתָּ knowest yādaʿ אֶת ʾēt לְבַ֖ב the hearts lēbāb בְּנֵ֥י of the children bēn הָֽאָדָֽם׃ of men:) ʾādām

לְמַ֣עַן That maʿan יִֽירָא֗וּךָ they may fear yārēʾ לָלֶ֙כֶת֙ thee, to walk hālak בִּדְרָכֶ֔יךָ in thy ways, derek כָּל so long kōl הַ֨יָּמִ֔ים as yôm אֲשֶׁר ʾăšer הֵ֥ם they hēm חַיִּ֖ים live ḥay עַל in ʿal פְּנֵ֣י pānîm הָֽאֲדָמָ֑ה the land ʾădāmâ אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer נָתַ֖תָּה thou gavest nātan לַֽאֲבֹתֵֽינוּ׃ unto our fathers. ʾāb

וְגַ֣ם Moreover gam אֶל concerning ʾēl הַנָּכְרִ֗י the stranger, nokrî אֲ֠שֶׁר which ʾăšer לֹ֥א is not lōʾ מֵֽעַמְּךָ֣ of thy people ʿam יִשְׂרָאֵל֮ Israel, yiśrāʾēl הוּא֒ hûʾ וּבָ֣א׀ but is come bôʾ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ country ʾereṣ רְחוֹקָ֗ה from a far rāḥôq לְמַ֨עַן sake, maʿan שִׁמְךָ֤ name's šēm הַגָּדוֹל֙ for thy great gādôl וְיָֽדְךָ֣ hand, yād הַֽחֲזָקָ֔ה and thy mighty ḥāzāq וּֽזְרוֹעֲךָ֖ arm; zĕrôaʿ הַנְּטוּיָ֑ה and thy stretched out nāṭâ וּבָ֥אוּ if they come bôʾ וְהִֽתְפַּֽלְל֖וּ and pray pālal אֶל in ʾēl הַבַּ֥יִת house; bayit הַזֶּֽה׃ this ze

וְאַתָּ֞ה thou ʾattâ תִּשְׁמַ֤ע Then hear šāmaʿ מִן from min הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ the heavens, šāmayim מִמְּכ֣וֹן place, mākôn שִׁבְתֶּ֔ךָ from thy dwelling yāšab וְעָשִׂ֕יתָ and do ʿāśâ כְּכֹ֛ל according to all kōl אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer יִקְרָ֥א calleth qārāʾ אֵלֶ֖יךָ to ʾēl הַנָּכְרִ֑י the stranger nokrî לְמַ֣עַן thee for; that maʿan יֵֽדְעוּ֩ may know yādaʿ כָל all kōl עַמֵּ֨י people ʿam הָאָ֜רֶץ of the earth ʾereṣ אֶת ʾēt שְׁמֶ֗ךָ thy name, šēm וּלְיִרְאָ֤ה and fear yārēʾ אֹֽתְךָ֙ ʾēt כְּעַמְּךָ֣ thee, as thy people ʿam יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel, yiśrāʾēl וְלָדַ֕עַת and may know yādaʿ כִּֽי that kî שִׁמְךָ֣ by thy name. šēm נִקְרָ֔א is called qārāʾ עַל ʿal הַבַּ֥יִת house bayit הַזֶּ֖ה this ze אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer בָּנִֽיתִי׃ I have built bānâ

כִּֽי If kî יֵצֵ֨א go out yāṣāʾ עַמְּךָ֤ thy people ʿam לַמִּלְחָמָה֙ to war milḥāmâ עַל against ʿal אֹ֣יְבָ֔יו their enemies ʾōyēb בַּדֶּ֖רֶךְ by the way derek אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer תִּשְׁלָחֵ֑ם thou shalt send šālaḥ וְהִתְפַּֽלְל֣וּ them, and they pray pālal אֵלֶ֗יךָ unto ʾēl דֶּ֣רֶךְ thee toward derek הָעִ֤יר city ʿîr הַזֹּאת֙ this zōt אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer בָּחַ֣רְתָּ thou hast chosen, bāḥar בָּ֔הּ וְהַבַּ֖יִת and the house bayit אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer בָּנִ֥יתִי I have built bānâ לִשְׁמֶֽךָ׃ for thy name; šēm

וְשָֽׁמַעְתָּ֙ Then hear šāmaʿ מִן thou from min הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם the heavens šāmayim אֶת ʾēt תְּפִלָּתָ֖ם their prayer tĕpillâ וְאֶת ʾēt תְּחִנָּתָ֑ם and their supplication, tĕḥinnâ וְעָשִׂ֖יתָ and maintain ʿāśâ מִשְׁפָּטָֽם׃ their cause. mišpāṭ

כִּ֣י If kî יֶֽחֶטְאוּ they sin ḥāṭāʾ לָ֗ךְ כִּ֣י against thee, (for kî אֵ֤ין no ʾayin אָדָם֙ man ʾādām אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer לֹֽא not,) lōʾ יֶחֱטָ֔א sinneth ḥāṭāʾ וְאָֽנַפְתָּ֣ and thou be angry ʾānap בָ֔ם וּנְתַתָּ֖ם with them, and deliver nātan לִפְנֵ֣י them over before pānîm אוֹיֵ֑ב enemies, ʾōyēb וְשָׁב֧וּם and they carry them away šābâ שֽׁוֹבֵיהֶ֛ם captives šābâ אֶל unto ʾēl אֶ֥רֶץ a land ʾereṣ רְחוֹקָ֖ה far off rāḥôq א֥וֹ or ʾô קְרוֹבָֽה׃ near; qārôb

וְהֵשִׁ֙יבוּ֙ Yet they bethink šûb אֶל ʾēl לְבָבָ֔ם themselves lēbāb בָּאָ֖רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁ֣ר whither ʾăšer נִשְׁבּוּ they are carried captive, šābâ שָׁ֑ם šām וְשָׁ֣בוּ׀ and turn šûb וְהִֽתְחַנְּנ֣וּ and pray ḥānan אֵלֶ֗יךָ unto ʾēl בְּאֶ֤רֶץ thee in the land ʾereṣ שִׁבְיָם֙ of their captivity, šĕbî לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar חָטָ֥אנוּ We have sinned, ḥāṭāʾ הֶֽעֱוִ֖ינוּ we have done amiss, ʿāwâ וְרָשָֽׁעְנוּ׃ and have dealt wickedly; rāšaʿ

וְשָׁ֣בוּ If they return šûb אֵלֶ֗יךָ to ʾēl בְּכָל thee with all kōl לִבָּם֙ their heart lēb וּבְכָל and with all kōl נַפְשָׁ֔ם their soul nepeš בְּאֶ֥רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ שִׁבְיָ֖ם of their captivity, šĕbî אֲשֶׁר whither ʾăšer שָׁב֣וּ they have carried them captives, šābâ אֹתָ֑ם ʾēt וְהִֽתְפַּֽלְל֗וּ and pray pālal דֶּ֤רֶךְ toward derek אַרְצָם֙ their land, ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer נָתַ֣תָּה thou gavest nātan לַֽאֲבוֹתָ֔ם unto their fathers, ʾāb וְהָעִיר֙ and the city ʿîr אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer בָּחַ֔רְתָּ thou hast chosen, bāḥar וְלַבַּ֖יִת and toward the house bayit אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer בָּנִ֥יתִי I have built bānâ לִשְׁמֶֽךָ׃ for thy name: šēm

וְשָֽׁמַעְתָּ֙ Then hear šāmaʿ מִן thou from min הַשָּׁמַ֜יִם the heavens, šāmayim מִמְּכ֣וֹן place, mākôn שִׁבְתְּךָ֗ from thy dwelling yāšab אֶת ʾēt תְּפִלָּתָם֙ their prayer tĕpillâ וְאֶת ʾēt תְּחִנֹּ֣תֵיהֶ֔ם and their supplications, tĕḥinnâ וְעָשִׂ֖יתָ and maintain ʿāśâ מִשְׁפָּטָ֑ם their cause, mišpāṭ וְסָֽלַחְתָּ֥ and forgive sālaḥ לְעַמְּךָ֖ thy people ʿam אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer חָֽטְאוּ have sinned against thee. ḥāṭāʾ לָֽךְ׃

עַתָּ֣ה Now, ʿattâ אֱלֹהַ֗י my God, ʾĕlōhîm יִֽהְיוּ be hāyâ נָ֤א let, I beseech thee, nāʾ עֵינֶ֙יךָ֙ thine eyes ʿayin פְּתֻח֔וֹת open, pātaḥ וְאָזְנֶ֖יךָ and thine ears ʾōzen קַשֻּׁב֑וֹת attent qaššāb לִתְפִלַּ֖ת unto the prayer tĕpillâ הַמָּק֥וֹם place. māqôm הַזֶּֽה׃ in this ze

וְעַתָּ֗ה Now ʿattâ קוּמָ֞ה therefore arise, qûm יְהוָ֤ה O Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהִים֙ God, ʾĕlōhîm לְֽנוּחֶ֔ךָ into thy resting place, nûaḥ אַתָּ֖ה thou, ʾattâ וַֽאֲר֣וֹן and the ark ʾārôn עֻזֶּ֑ךָ of thy strength: ʿōz כֹּֽהֲנֶ֜יךָ let thy priests, kōhēn יְהוָ֤ה O Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהִים֙ God, ʾĕlōhîm יִלְבְּשׁ֣וּ be clothed lābaš תְשׁוּעָ֔ה with salvation, tĕšûʿâ וַֽחֲסִידֶ֖יךָ and let thy saints ḥāsîd יִשְׂמְח֥וּ rejoice śāmaḥ בַטּֽוֹב׃ in goodness. ṭôb

יְהוָ֣ה O Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהִ֔ים God, ʾĕlōhîm אַל ʾal תָּשֵׁ֖ב turn not away šûb פְּנֵ֣י the face pānîm מְשִׁיחֶ֑ךָ of thine anointed: māšîaḥ זָכְרָ֕ה remember zākar לְחַֽסְדֵ֖י the mercies ḥēsēd דָּוִ֥יד of David dāwid עַבְדֶּֽךָ׃ thy servant. ʿebed
