இயேசு அவைகளுக்கு உத்தரவு கொடுத்தவுடனே, அசுத்த ஆவிகள் புறப்பட்டுப் பன்றிகளுக்குள் போயின; உடனே ஏறக்குறைய இரண்டாயிரம் பன்றிகளுள்ள அந்தக்கூட்டம் உயர்ந்த மேட்டிலிருந்து ஓடி, கடலிலே பாய்ந்து, கடலில் அமிழ்ந்து மாண்டது.

அவ்வாறே போகும்படி இயேசு அனுமதி அளித்தார். அசுத்த ஆவிகள் அந்த மனிதனை விட்டு விட்டு பன்றிகளுக்குள் புகுந்து கொண்டன. அப்பன்றிக் கூட்டம் மேட்டிலிருந்து ஓடி கடலுக்குள் பாய்ந்து கடலில் மூழ்கி இறந்தன. அவை ஏறக்குறைய 2,000 எண்ணிக்கை உடையதாக இருக்கும்.
