ஒருவேளை ஐம்பது நீதிமான்களுக்கு ஐந்துபேர் குறைந்திருப்பார்கள்; அந்த ஐந்துபேருக்காக பட்டணம் முழுவதையும் அழிப்பீரோ என்றான். அதற்கு அவர்: நான் நாற்பத்தைந்து நீதிமான்களை அங்கே கண்டால், அதை அழிப்பதில்லை என்றார்.

அந்நகரத்தில் 45 நல்ல மனிதர்கள் மட்டுமே இருந்தால் என்ன செய்வீர்? அந்த முழு நகரத்தையும் அழித்துவிடுவீரா?” என்று கேட்டான். அதற்கு கர்த்தர், “நான் அங்கு 45 நல்ல மனிதர்களைக் கண்டால் அந்நகரத்தை அழிக்கமாட்டேன்” என்றார்.
