கலகம் அதிகமாகிறதேயல்லாமல் தன் பிரயத்தனத்தினாலே பிரயோஜனமில்லையென்று பிலாத்து கண்டு, தண்ணீரை அள்ளி, ஜனங்களுக்கு முன்பாகக் கைகளைக்கழுவி: இந்த நீதிமானுடைய இரத்தப்பழிக்கு நான் குற்றமற்றவன் நீங்களே பார்த்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள் என்றான்.

கலவரம் அதிகமாகிறதேயல்லாமல் தன் முயற்சியினாலே பலன் இல்லையென்று பிலாத்து பார்த்து, தண்ணீரை அள்ளி, மக்களுக்கு முன்பாக கைகளைக் கழுவி: இந்த நீதிமானுடைய இரத்தப்பழிக்கு நான் குற்றமற்றவன், நீங்களே பார்த்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள் என்றான்.

Tamil Easy Reading Version
மக்களை மாற்றத் தன்னால் ஏதும் செய்ய முடியாது என்பதைப் பிலாத்து கண்டான். மேலும் மக்கள் பொறுமையிழப்பதையும் பிலாத்து கவனித்தான். ஆகவே தண்ணீரை எடுத்து மக்கள் எல்லோரும் காணுமாறு தன் கைகளைக் கழுவினான். பின்பு, “இவரது மரணத்திற்கு நான் பொறுப்பல்ல. நீங்களே அதைச் செய்கிறீர்கள்” என்று பிலாத்து கூறினான்.

பிலாத்து தன் முயற்சியால் பயனேதும் ஏற்படவில்லை, மாறாகக் கலகமே உருவாகிறது என்று கண்டு, கூட்டத்தினரின் முன்னிலையில் தண்ணீரை எடுத்து, “இவனது இரத்தப்பழியில் எனக்குப் பங்கில்லை. நீங்களே பார்த்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள்” என்று கூறித் தன் கைகளைக் கழுவினான்.

When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

American Standard Version (ASV)
So when Pilate saw that he prevailed nothing, but rather that a tumult was arising, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this righteous man; see ye `to it'.
