Zechariah 1
1 ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੋੜਨ ਦਾ ਚਾਹਵਾਨ ਬਰਕਯਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਇਹ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੋਈ। ਇਹ ਫ਼ਾਰਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾਰਾ ਦੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਸਾਲ ਦੇ 8 ਵੇਂ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ। (ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਬਰਕਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਰਕਯਾਹ ਇੱਦੋ ਨਬੀ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ।) ਉਹ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਇਉਂ ਸੀ:
2 ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਵਾਨ ਹੋਇਆ।
3 ਇਸ ਲਈ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਆਖਣਾ। ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ, “ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੱਲ ਪਰਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵੱਲ ਪਰਤਾਂਗਾ।” ਸਰਬ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਮਾਨ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਆਖੀਆਂ।
4 ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ। ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਨਬੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ‘ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਸਰਬ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਮਾਨ ਆਖਦਾ: ਆਪਣੇ ਜਿਉਣ ਦੇ ਬਦ-ਢੰਗ ਤੋਂ ਹਟ ਜਾਵੋ। ਬਦ ਕਰਤੂਤਾਂ ਕਰਨੀਆਂ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਦਿਓ।’ ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਾਲਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ।” ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਆਖੀਆਂ।
5 ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪੁਰਖੇ ਖਤਮ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਨਬੀ ਵੀ ਸਦੀਵ ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਨਾ ਰਹਿਣਗੇ।
6 ਨਬੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਨ। ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਕੋਲ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਖਿਆਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨੇਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਅਖੀਰੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਠ ਸਿੱਖਾਏ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਸਰਬ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਸਾਡੀਆਂ ਕਰਨੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਹਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ।’ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਵੱਲ ਵਾਪਸ ਪਰਤੇ।”
7 ਚਾਰ ਘੋੜੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਫ਼ਾਰਸ ਦਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾਰਾ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ 11ਵੇਂ ਮਹੀਨੇ (ਸਬਾਟ ਦੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ) ਦੇ 24ਵੇਂ ਦਿਨ, ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਹੋਇਆ। (ਇਹ ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਬਰਕਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਬਰਕਯਾਹ ਇੱਦੋ ਨਬੀ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ।) ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਇਉਂ ਹੈ:
8 ਰਾਤ ਵੇਲੇ, ਮੈਂ ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਲ ਘੋੜੇ ਤੇ ਸਵਾਰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਉਹ ਵਾਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਹਿਂਦੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਝਾੜੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚਕਾਰ ਖੜੋਤਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲਾਲ, ਭੂਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਘੋੜੇ ਸਨ।
9 ਮੈਂ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਸੁਆਮੀ, ਇੰਨੇ ਘੋੜੇ ਕਾਹਦੇ ਲਈ ਹਨ?” ਤਦ ਇੱਕ ਫ਼ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਬੋਲਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾਵਾਂਗਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਘੋੜੇ ਕਾਹਦੇ ਲਈ ਹਨ।”
10 ਤਦ ਮਹਿਂਦੀ ਦੇ ਬੂਟਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚਕਾਰ ਖੜੋਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਇੱਧਰ-ਉੱਧਰ ਜਾਣ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਘੋੜੇ ਭੇਜੇ ਹਨ।”
11 ਤਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਘੋੜਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਮਹਿੰਦੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਝਾੜੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚਕਾਰ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਦੂਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਅਸੀਂ ਖੁਦ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਇੱਧਰ-ਉੱਧਰ ਜਾਕੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਅਤੇ ਚੁੱਪ ਹੈ।”
12 ਤਦ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਦੂਤ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਯਹੋਵਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਕਦੋਂ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਤੇ ਸੁੱਖ ਬਹਾਲ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ? ਸੱਤਰ ਸਾਲ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਰੋਪੀ ਵਿਖਾਉਂਦਿਆਂ।”
13 ਜਿਹੜਾ ਦੂਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੂਤ ਨੂੰ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੱਖ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਤੇ ਅਮਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕਹੇ।
14 ਫ਼ਿਰ ਦੂਤ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦੱਸਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ, ਸਰਬ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਮਾਨ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ: “ਮੈਨੂੰ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਅਤੇ ਸੀਯੋਨ ਲਈ ਡਾਢਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ।
15 ਅਤੇ ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਕੌਮਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਬੜੀਆਂ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਸਮਝਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਬੜਾ ਨਾਰਾਜ਼ ਹਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਰਤਾ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੌਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਰਜਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਠਹਿਰਾਇਆ। ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੌਮਾਂ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।”
16 ਇਸ ਲਈ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, “ਮੈਂ ਮੁੜ ਆਵਾਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਰਾਮ ਬਹਾਲ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ।” ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਸਰਬ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਮਾਨ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, “ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਮੁੜ ਉਸਾਰਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇਮੇਰਾ ਭਵਨ ਉੱਥੇ ਬਣੇਗਾ।”
17 ਦੂਤ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਮਾਨ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ‘ਮੇਰਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਮੁੜ ਧਨਾਢ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਮੈਂ ਸੀਯੋਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੱਖ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ। ਤੇ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਖਾਸ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਚੁਣਾਂਗਾ।’”
18 ਚਾਰ ਸਿੰਗ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਰ ਕਾਮੇ ਤਦ ਮੈਂ ਉੱਪਰ ਵੱਲ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਚਾਰ ਸਿੰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਹੋਏ।
19 ਤਦ ਮੈਂ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਦੂਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਿੰਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਅਰਬ ਹੈ?” ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਇਹ ਸਿੰਗ (ਸ਼ਕਤੀਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਕੌਮਾਂ) ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਓਪਰੇ ਦੇਸਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਣ ਲਈ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।”
20 ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਚਾਰ ਕਾਮਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਵਾਏ।
21 ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਇਹ ਚਾਰ ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰ ਕੀ ਕਰਨ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ?” ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਇਹ ਉਹ ਸਿੰਗ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਓਪਰੇ ਦੇਸਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਧੱਕ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਸਿੰਗਾਂ ਨੇ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਓਪਰੇ ਦੇਸਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ। ਇਹ ਸਿੰਗ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੇ ਰਹਿਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਪਰ ਇਹ ਚਾਰ ਕਾਮੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਿੰਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਡਰਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੱਢਣ ਲਈ ਆਏ ਹਨ।”
1 In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,
2 The Lord hath been sore displeased with your fathers.
3 Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the Lord of hosts.
4 Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith the Lord.
5 Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever?
6 But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the Lord of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.
7 Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Sebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,
8 I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in the bottom; and behind him were there red horses, speckled, and white.
9 Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will shew thee what these be.
10 And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These are they whom the Lord hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth.
11 And they answered the angel of the Lord that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.
12 Then the angel of the Lord answered and said, O Lord of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?
13 And the Lord answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words.
14 So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.
15 And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the Lord of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.
17 Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the Lord shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.
18 Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns.
19 And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.
20 And the Lord shewed me four carpenters.
21 Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it.
1 And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.
2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;
3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;
4 That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.
5 And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.
6 And the Lord called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.
7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him.
8 And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the Lord had called the child.
9 Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.
11 And the Lord said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.
12 In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.
13 For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.
14 And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.
15 And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the Lord. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision.
16 Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.
17 And he said, What is the thing that the Lord hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.
18 And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the Lord: let him do what seemeth him good.
19 And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.
20 And all Israel from Dan even to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the Lord.
21 And the Lord appeared again in Shiloh: for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the Lord.
