ਮਾਰਦਕਈ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕੀਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਹੇ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਸਾਲ ਅਦਾਰ ਦੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਦੇ ਚੌਦਵੇਂ ਪੰਦਰਵੇਂ ਦਿਨ ਪੂਰੀਮ ਦਾ ਪੁਰਬ ਮਨਾਉਣ।
