ਬਿਲਆਮ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹੀ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਆਖ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਅਖਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।”

ਬਿਲਆਮ ਨੇ ਬਾਲਾਕ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ: ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਨੂੰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦਾ। ਜਿੰਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਇਹ ਨਾ ਆਖੇ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦਾ, ਨਾ ਨਿੱਕੀ ਗੱਲ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਵੱਡੀ ਗੱਲ। ਭਾਵੇਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਾਲਾਕ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੋਨੇ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਖੂਬਸੂਰਤ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਾ ਦੇ ਦੇਵੇ, ਮੈਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਆਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ।

ਬਿਲਆਮ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਇੱਥੇ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ਪਰ ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਗੱਲ ਨਾ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਸੀ। ਮੈਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਬੋਲ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਅਖਵਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।”
