ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਦਾਗੋਨ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਟਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

ਜਦੋਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੈਅ ਪੀ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਾਦਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਨੇ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਲੇ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਹ ਓਹੀ ਪਿਆਲੇ ਸਨ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨਬੂਕਦਨੱਸਰ ਨੇ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਲਿਆਂਦੇ ਸਨ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਰਾਜੇ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ, ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਪਤਨੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਿਆਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੈਅ ਪੀ ਸੱਕਣ।

ਇਸਦੀ ਬਜਾਇ ਤੂੰ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਦੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਤੂੰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਲਿਆਂਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਿਆਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਫ਼ੇਰ ਤੂੰ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਅਹਿਲਕਾਰਾਂ, ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਦਾਸੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਿਆਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੈਅ ਪੀਤੀ। ਤੂੰ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਨੇ, ਪਿੱਤਲ, ਲੋਹੇ, ਲਕੜੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੱਥਰ ਦੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਹ ਅਸਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਦੇਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੱਕਦੇ, ਤੇ ਸੁਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੱਕਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਸੱਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਆਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਹਰ ਗੱਲ ਉੱਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਹੈ।

ਇਸ ਉਪਰੰਤ, ਉਹ ਹਨੇਰੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਜੀ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਅਗਾਂਹ ਵੱਧਣਗੇ। ਉਹ ਕਸਦੀ ਲੋਕ, ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਭਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।”

ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਮੀਰ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਵੱਧੀਆ ਭੋਜਨ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਉਂ ਜਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਸਦੀ ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਇਉਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਜਾਲ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ੰਸਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਬਲੀਆਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਧੂਪਾਂ ਧੁਖਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
