ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੇ ਤਲਾਇਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉੱਥੇ 2,00,000 ਪੈਦਲ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਅਤੇ 10,000 ਹੋਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਰਮਿਆਨ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਆਦਮੀ ਸਨ।

ਇਸਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਉੱਠਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਗਿਲਗਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਉੱਥੋਂ ਚੱਲਾ ਗਿਆ। ਮਿਕਮਾਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੜਾਈ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਬਾਕੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਨੇ ਗਿਲਗਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਗਿਬਆਹ ਨੂੰ ਚੱਲ ਪਿਆ। ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਜਿੰਨੀ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਬਚੀ ਸੀ ਉਸਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਹੁਣ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਕੇਵਲ 600 ਆਦਮੀ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ ਸਨ।
