Proverbs 23 - ASV (Punjabi)

1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, Consider diligently him that is before thee;-6- ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਕ ਨਾਲ ਭੋਜਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਬੈਠੋ ਤਾਂ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖੋ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਬੈਠੇ ਹੋ।

2 And put a knife to thy throat, If thou be a man given to appetite.ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡੇ ਭੁੱਖੇ ਹੋ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।

3 Be not desirous of his dainties; Seeing they are deceitful food.ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਵਾਦਿਸ਼ਟ ਭੋਜਨ ਲਈ ਤੀਵ੍ਰ ਇੱਛਾ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਭਰਮ ਪੂਰਣ ਭੋਜਨ ਹਨ।

4 Weary not thyself to be rich; Cease from thine own wisdom.-7- ਅਮੀਰ ਬਣਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ। ਕੁਝ ਸੂਝ ਰੱਖੋ ਕਿ ਕਦੋਂ ਰੁਕਣਾ ਹੈ।

5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? For `riches' certainly make themselves wings, Like an eagle that flieth toward heaven.ਪੈਸਾ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਖਰਚ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਇਸਦੇ ਖੰਭ ਉੱਗੇ ਹੋਣ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਉੱਡ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੋਵੇ।

6 Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, Neither desire thou his dainties:-8- ਕਿਸੇ ਖੁਦਗਰਜ਼ ਬੰਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਭੋਜਨ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਵਾਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਤੀਵ੍ਰ ਇੱਛਾ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ।

7 For as he thinketh within himself, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; But his heart is not with thee.ਉਹ ਉਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਕੀਮਤ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਖੇ, “ਖਾਓ, ਪੀਓ।” ਪਰ ਅਸਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

8 The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, And lose thy sweet words.ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਲਟੀ ਕਰ ਦਿਉਂਗੇ, ਜੋ ਵੀ ਥੋੜ੍ਹਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਉਸਦਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਖਾਧਾ ਸੀ, ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ, ਬੇਕਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ।

9 Speak not in the hearing of a fool; For he will despise the wisdom of thy words.-9- ਕਿਸੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ। ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਸਿਆਣੀ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਨਫ਼ਰਤ ਕਰੇਗਾ।

10 Remove not the ancient landmark; And enter not into the fields of the fatherless:-10- ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਵਿਰਸੇ ਦੀ ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਛੇੜੋ। ਅਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਉਸ ਭੂਮੀਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਲਵੋ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਯਤੀਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੈ।

11 For their Redeemer is strong; He will plead their cause against thee.ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸਦਾ ਪਹਿਰੇਦਾਰ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਲਈ ਯਤੀਮ ਦਾ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਲੜੇਗਾ।

12 Apply thy heart unto instruction, And thine ears to the words of knowledge.-11- ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣੋ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਵੀ ਸੰਭਵ ਹੋ ਸੱਕੇ, ਸਿੱਖ ਲਵੋ।

13 Withhold not correction from the child; `For' if thou beat him with the rod, he will not die.-12- ਜੇ ਲੋੜ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦਿਓ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁੱਟਣ ਨਾਲ ਉਸਦਾ ਨੁਕਸ਼ਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।

14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, And shalt deliver his soul from Sheol.ਜੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁੱਟੋਂਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲਵੋਂਗੇ।

15 My son, if thy heart be wise, My heart will be glad, even mine:-13- ਮੇਰੇ ਬੇਟੇ, ਜੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਹੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋਵਾਂਗਾ।

16 Yea, my heart will rejoice, When thy lips speak right things.ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਕਬਨੀ ਸੁਣਾਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਵਾਂਗਾ।

17 Let not thy heart envy sinners; But `be thou' in the fear of Jehovah all the day long:-14- ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਈਰਖਾ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ, ਪਰ ਇਸਦੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਡਰੋ।

18 For surely there is a reward; And thy hope shall not be cut off.ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਫ਼ੇਰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ, ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਆਸ ਖਤਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।

19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, And guide thy heart in the way.-15- ਮੇਰੇ ਬੇਟੇ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੁਣੋ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਬਣੋ ਸਹੀ ਰਾਸਤੇ ਤੇ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹੋ।

20 Be not among winebibbers, Among gluttonous eaters of flesh:ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਜਿਆਦਾ ਪੀਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਾਂ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; And drowsiness will clothe `a man' with rags.ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਸ਼ਰਾਬੀ ਅਤੇ ਖਾਊ ਗਰੀਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਸਤੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਟਾਕੀਆਂ ਪਹਿਨਾ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ।

22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, And despise not thy mother when she is old.-16- ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣੋ ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਜਨਮ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਹੋਣਾ। ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਦਰ ਕਰੋ, ਉਦੋਂ ਵੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਬਿਰਧ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ।

23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; `Yea', wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.ਸੱਚਾਈ, ਨੂੰ ਖਰੀਦੋ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਚੋ ਨਾ ਸਿਆਣਪ, ਅਨੁਸ਼ਾਸ਼ਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਝਦਾਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਸ਼ਿਲ ਕਰੋ।

24 The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; And he that begetteth a wise child will have joy of him.ਧਰਮੀ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੱਚਮੁੱਚ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ’ਚ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ।

25 Let thy father and thy mother be glad, And let her that bare thee rejoice.ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਮਾਪੇ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੁਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋਣ।

26 My son, give me thy heart; And let thine eyes delight in my ways.-17- ਮੇਰੇ ਬੇਟੇ, ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਆਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣੋ। ਮੇਰੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਮਿਸਾਲ ਬਣਾਵੋ।

27 For a harlot is a deep ditch; And a foreign woman is a narrow pit.ਵੇਸਵਾ ਇੱਕ ਡੰਘਾ ਟੋਆ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਾਈ ਔਰਤ ਇੱਕ ਤੰਗ ਖੂਹੀ ਹੈ।

28 Yea, she lieth in wait as a robber, And increaseth the treacherous among men.ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਡਕੈਤ ਵਾਂਗ ਇੰਤਜ਼ਾਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੱਦਾਰ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? Who hath complaining? who hath wounds without cause? Who hath redness of eyes?-18- ਕੌਣ ਲੋਕ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਮੁਸੀਬਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ? ਜੋ ਉਦਾਸ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ? ਜਿਹੜੇ ਝਗੜਿਆਂ ’ਚ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ? ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਚਿੰਤਾਵਾਂ ਹਨ? ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਝਰੀਟਾਂ ਵੱਜੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ? ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਲਾਲ ਹਨ? ਉਹ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਮੈਅ ਦੀ ਬੋਤਲ ਤੇ ਬਰਬਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਿਲੇ-ਜੁਲੇ ਜਾਮ ਪੀਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

30 They that tarry long at the wine; They that go to seek out mixed wine.

31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, When it sparkleth in the cup, When it goeth down smoothly:ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਅ ਲਾਲ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਪਿਆਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਝਿਲਮਾਲਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੌਲੀ-ਹੌਲੀ ਡੋਲ੍ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸਦੀ ਤੀਬ੍ਰ ਇੱਛਾ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ।

32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, And stingeth like an adder.ਅਖੀਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸੱਪ ਵਾਂਗ ਡੰਗ ਮਾਰੇਗਾ, ਇੱਕ ਅਜਗਰ ਵਾਂਗ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਵੇਗਾ।

33 Thine eyes shall behold strange things, And thy heart shall utter perverse things.ਤੁਸੀਂ ਅਜੀਬ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਵੇਖੋਂਗੇ, ਤੁਹਾਡੀਆਂ ਸੋਚਾਂ ਗੁਝਲਦਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ।

34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, Or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਲੇਟ ਜਾਵੋਂਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਜਾਪੇਗਾ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੁਫ਼ਾਨੀ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਫ਼ਸ ਗਏ ਹੋ। ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਕਿ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਮੁੰਦਰੀ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਉੱਤੇ ਲੇਟੇ ਹੋ।

35 They have stricken me, `shalt thou say', and I was not hurt; They have beaten me, and I felt it not: When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਖੋਗੇ, “ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ, ਪਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੱਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗੀ। ਉਹ ਰੁੱਕ ਗਏ, ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਖਿਆਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਮੈਂ ਕਦੋਂ ਜਾਗਾਂਗਾ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਜਾਮ ਪੀ ਸੱਕਾਂ।”
