Proverbs 17 - ASV (Punjabi)

1 Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, Than a house full of feasting with strife.ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸੁੱਕੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਦੇ ਟੁਕੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਣਾ ਦਲੀਲਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਭੋਜਨ ਖਾਣ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਹੈ।

2 A servant that dealeth wisely shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, And shall have part in the inheritance among the brethren.ਸੂਝਵਾਨ ਨੋਕਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਰੇਗਾ, ਜੋ ਸ਼ਰਮਸਾਰੀ ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨੋਕਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਵਾਂਗ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੈ ਲਵੇਗਾ।

3 The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; But Jehovah trieth the hearts.ਸੋਨੇ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਅੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਇਹ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

4 An evil-doer giveth heed to wicked lips; `And' a liar giveth ear to a mischievous tongue.ਬੁਰਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੰਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਝੂਠ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਵੀ ਹਨ।

5 Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker; `And' he that is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.ਉਹ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਗਰੀਬ ਦਾ ਮਜ਼ਾਕ ਉਡਾਉਂਦਾ, ਆਪਣੇ ਬਨਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਲਈ ਅਨਾਦਰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦਾ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਤੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਪਾਉਣਗੇ।

6 Children's children are the crown of old men; And the glory of children are their fathers.ਪੁਤ-ਪੋਤਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਬੁਢਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਮੁਕੁਟ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਤਾਜ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

7 Excellent speech becometh not a fool; Much less do lying lips a prince.ਮੂਰਖ ਆਦਮੀ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਕਿਸੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਕ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੋਭਦਾ।

8 A bribe is `as' a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it; Whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.ਕਈ ਲੋਕ ਸੋਚਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਰਿਸ਼ਵਤ ਇੱਕ ਜਾਦੂ ਦੀ ਛੜੀ ਹੈ- ਜਿੱਥੇ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੀ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; But he that harpeth on a matter separateth chief friends.ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਦੂਸਰੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਕਰਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਆਫ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ, ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਮਾਵੇਗਾ, ਪਰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਰ-ਬਾਰ ਉੱਠਾਉਂਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਨਜ਼ਦੀਕੀ ਦੋਸਤ ਵੀ ਗੁਆ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

10 A rebuke entereth deeper into one that hath understanding Than a hundred stripes into a fool.ਇੱਕ ਝਿੜਕ ਇੱਕ ਸੂਝਵਾਨ ਆਦਮੀ ਤੇ, ਕਿਸੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਤੇ ਸੌ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰਨ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੱਧੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

11 An evil man seeketh only rebellion; Therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.ਜੇ ਇੱਕ ਬਦ ਆਦਮੀ ਵਿਦ੍ਰੋਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ, ਤਾਂ ਇੱਕ ਬੇਰਹਿਮ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਲੂਕਣ ਲਈ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

12 Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, Rather than a fool in his folly.ਇੱਕ ਰਿੱਛਣੀ ਨਾਲ, ਜਿਸਤੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਲੈ ਲਏ ਗਏ ਹੋਣ, ਮਿਲਣਾ ਇੱਕ ਮੂਰਖ ਨਾਲ ਉਸਦੀ ਬੇਵਕੂਫੀ ਸਮੇਤ ਮਿਲਣ, ਤੋਂ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਹੈ।

13 Whoso rewardeth evil for good, Evil shall not depart from his house.ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਬਦੀ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਗਿਆਈ ਦੀ ਅਦਾਇਗੀ ਕਰੇ, ਮੁਸੀਬਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਟੱਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡੇਗੀ।

14 The beginning of strife is `as' when one letteth out water: Therefore leave off contention, before there is quarrelling.ਦਲੀਲਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਫ਼ਟ ਨਿਕਲੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਵਿਵਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੇਜ਼ੀ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦਿਓ।

15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the righteous, Both of them alike are an abomination to Jehovah.ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਨਾਂ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਫ਼ਰਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਗੁਨਾਹ ਘੋਸ਼ਿਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਬੇਗੁਨਾਹ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਘੋਸ਼ਿਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

16 Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, Seeing he hath no understanding?ਧੰਨ, ਮੂਰਖ ਬੰਦੇ ਲਈ, ਕੀ ਭਲਾ ਕਰੇਗਾ? ਕੀ ਉਹ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਖ੍ਰੀਦੇਗਾ? ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਸੂਝ ਨਹੀਂ।

17 A friend loveth at all times; And a brother is born for adversity.ਦੋਸਤ ਹਰ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਭਰਾ ਮੁਸੀਬਤ ਦੇ ਸਮਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਜਨਮਿਆਂ ਹੈ।

18 A man void of understanding striketh hands, And becometh surety in the presence of his neighbor.ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹੀ ਆਦਮੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਸੂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਆਂਢੀ ਦੇ ਕਰਜ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਲਵੇਗਾ।

19 He loveth transgression that loveth strife: He that raiseth high his gate seeketh destruction.ਜਿਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਦਲੀਲਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਾਪ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਦਹਿਲੀਜਾਂ ਉੱਚੀਆਂ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਟੁੱਟੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹੱਡੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

20 He that hath a wayward heart findeth no good; And he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਠੇ ਦਿਮਾਗ਼ ਵਾਲਾ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਤਰੱਕੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰੇਗਾ, ਇਦੋ ਘ੍ਰਿਣਾਯੋਗ ਜੁਬਾਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਮੁਸੀਬਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

21 He that begetteth a fool `doeth it' to his sorrow; And the father of a fool hath no joy.ਜਿਸ ਕੋਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੈ, ਉਦਾਸੀ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਬੇਵਕੂਫ਼ ਆਦਮੀ ਦਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਕਦੇ ਖੁਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।

22 A cheerful heart is a good medicine; But a broken spirit drieth up the bones.ਆਨੰਦਮਈ ਦਿਮਾਗ਼ ਇੱਕ ਚੰਗੀ ਦਵਾ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਦਾਸ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੱਡੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਸੁਕਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

23 A wicked man receiveth a bribe out of the bosom, To pervert the ways of justice.ਇੱਕ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਆਦਮੀ ਨਿਆਂ ਰੋਕਣ ਲਈ ਗੁਪਤ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਰਿਸ਼ਵਤ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

24 Wisdom is before the face of him that hath understanding; But the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.ਸਿਆਣਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੰਮ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਮੂਰਖ ਦੂਰ-ਦੁਰਾਡੀਆਂ ਥਾਵੇਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, And bitterness to her that bare him.ਮੂਰਖ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਲਈ ਅਫ਼ਸੋਸ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਣ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਤੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਨਮ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

26 Also to punish the righteous is not good, `Nor' to smite the noble for `their' uprightness.ਜਿਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੇ ਕੋਈ ਗ਼ਲਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਣਾ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਆਗੂ ਇਮਾਨਦਾਰ ਹੋਣ ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਣੀ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ।

27 He that spareth his words hath knowledge; And he that is of a cool spirit is a man of understanding.ਇੱਕ ਸਮਝਦਾਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਥਨੀ ਤੇ ਕਾਬੂ ਰੱਖਦਾ, ਅਤੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸੂਝਵਾਨ ਹੈ ਆਪਣੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਤੇ ਕਾਬੂ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise; When he shutteth his lips, he is `esteemed as' prudent.ਮੂਰਖ ਵੀ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਚੁੱਪ ਰਹੇ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਤੀਕ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਬੰਦ ਰੱਖੇ ਸੂਝਵਾਨ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
