ਅਸੀਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਅੱਗੇ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਅਸੀਂ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨ ਦੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨ ਦਿਆਂਗੇ। ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦਾ ਪੱਕ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ ਕਿ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨ ਦੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਨੀਆਂ ਮਿਲਣ?”

ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨ ਦੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਪਤਨੀਆਂ ਮਿਸਫ਼ਾਹ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਇਹ ਸੀ: “ਸਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਬੰਦਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਧੀ ਦਾ ਰਿਸ਼ਤਾ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ-ਸਮੂਹ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰੇਗਾ।”

ਪਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨ ਦੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਾਦੀ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਇਜਾਜ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਸੱਕਦੇ। ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦਾ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਦਾ ਬੁਰਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨ ਦੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਨੀ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਸੌਂਹ ਚੁਕਾਕੇ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਭੋਜਨ ਕਰੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਾਪ ਲੱਗੇਗਾ। ਇਸੇ ਲਈ ਅਜੇ ਤੀਕ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਧਾ, ਇਸੇ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਇੰਨੀ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰੀ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।”

ਪਰ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਯੋਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਅੱਜ ਇੰਨੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਜਿੱਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਕੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਵੀ ਮਰਨਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ? ਇੰਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸੱਕਦਾ! ਅਸੀਂ ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਸੌਂਹ ਚੁਕੱਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਯੋਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ ਅਸੀਂ ਯੋਨਾਥਾਨ ਦਾ ਵਾਲ ਵੀ ਵਿੰਗਾ ਹੋਣ ਜਾਂ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਨਾ ਡਿੱਗਣ ਦੇਵਾਂਗੇ। ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਲੜਾਈ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੱਜ ਮਦਦ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।” ਤਾਂ ਇੰਝ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਯੋਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਰਨੋ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਰਨ ਨਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
