ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਕੁੜੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਕੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਕੁੜੀ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਾਦੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ? ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਨਤ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ।” ਪਰ ਸਮਸੂਨ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਉਸ ਕੁੜੀ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਲਿਆਓ! ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ!”

ਸਮਸੂਨ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਸਾ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਅੱਗੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਿਤੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਹਾਂ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਮਹਾਨ ਜਿੱਤ ਬਖਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ। ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਹੁਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਸਾ ਨਾ ਮਰਨ ਦਿਉ। ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਨਾ ਪੈਣ ਦਿਉ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਨਤ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈ!”

ਗਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਖਬਰ ਨਾ ਦੱਸੋ! ਅਸ਼ਕਲੋਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਗਲੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਇਹ ਡੌਁਡੀ ਨਾ ਪਿੱਟੋ। ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋਣਗੇ ਅਸੁੰਨਤੀ ਜਸ਼ਨ ਮਨਾਉਣਗੇ!

ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਸਤਰ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਆਪਣੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਕੱਢ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵੱਢ ਸੁੱਟ। ਫ਼ਿਰ ਉਹ ਅਸੁੰਨਤੀਏ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੇਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਖੌਲ ਨਾ ਉਡਾਉਣਗੇ।” ਪਰ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਇਸ ਕੰਮੋਂ ਡਰ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਖੁਦ ਕੱਢੀ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਢ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ।

ਮੈਂ ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਰਿੱਛ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਅਸੁੰਨਤੀ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਗੋਲਿਆਥ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੀ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਵਾਂਗਾ। ਗੋਲਿਆਥ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਮਰੇਗਾ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਦਾ ਮਖੌਲ ਉਡਾਇਆ ਹੈ।

ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਆਪਨੇ ਕੋਲ ਖਲੋਤੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਉਸਨੇ ਕੀ ਆਖਿਆ? ਇਸ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਬੇਇੱਜ਼ਤੀ ਹਟਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਇਨਾਮ ਹੈ? ਆਖਿਰ ਇਹ ਗੋਲਿਆਥ ਹੈ ਕੌਣ? ਉਹ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੱਕ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਇਹ ਕਿਉਂ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਲਲਕਾਰ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ।”

ਯੋਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨੌਜੁਆਨ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਨੇ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਸਤਰ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਚੱਲ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਸੁੰਨਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਡੇਰੇ ਵੱਲ ਚੱਲੀਏ। ਕੀ ਪਤਾ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਡੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰੇ। ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੋਕ ਸੱਕਦਾ। ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਫ਼ਰਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਥੋੜੇ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਹਨ ਜਾਂ ਬਹੁਤੇ, ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਜੋ ਚਾਹੇ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ।”
ਅਸਤਸਨਾ 7:2
ਯਹੋਵਾਹ, ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ, ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੌਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ। ਅਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾ ਦੇਵੋਂਗੇ। ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਬਾਹ ਕਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਇਕਰਾਰਨਾਮਾ ਨਾ ਕਰਨਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਰਹਿਮ ਨਾ ਕਰਨਾ।
ਖ਼ਰੋਜ 34:12
ਹੋਸ਼ਿਆਰ ਰਹਿਣਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਇਕਰਾਰਨਾਮਾ ਨਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਉਸ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਰਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ। ਜੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਰੋਂਗੇ, ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਫ਼ਸਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਹੋਣਗੇ।
ਪੈਦਾਇਸ਼ 34:14
ਇਸ ਲਈ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਅਸੀਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਭੈਣ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਾਦੀ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਇਜਾਜ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਸੱਕਦੇ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਹਾਲੇ ਤੀਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੁੰਨਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈ। ਸਾਡੀ ਭੈਣ ਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਾਦੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਗਲਤ ਗੱਲ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।
ਪੈਦਾਇਸ਼ 24:3
ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ ਗੱਲ ਦਾ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਕਰੇਂ। ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਅਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਹਾਜ਼ਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਚਨ ਦੇ, ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਇਸ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੀ ਕਨਾਨੀ ਕੁੜੀ ਨੂੰ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਮੈਂ ਰਹਿ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਨਹੀਂ ਲਵੇਂਗਾ।
