ਸ਼ਕਮ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨੀ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਕੁੜੀ ਲੈ ਆਉ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਾਦੀ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਾਂ।”

ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਮਿਸਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਪਤਨੀ ਲੱਭ ਲਈ। ਉਹ ਪਾਰਾਨ ਦੇ ਮਾਰੂਥਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਰਹੇ।
