ਫ਼ੇਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਅਬਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਜਾਣ ਲੈਣੀਆਂ ਚਾਹੀਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ: ਤੇਰੇ ਉੱਤਰਾਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣਗੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਉਹ ਉੱਥੇ ਅਜਨਬੀ ਹੋਣਗੇ। ਅਤੇ ਉੱਥੋਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਲਾਮ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ 400 ਵਰ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਤੱਕ ਬੁਰਾ ਸਲੂਕ ਕਰਨਗੇ।

“ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਿ ‘ਤੇਰੀ ਔਲਾਦ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹੇਗੀ। ਉਹ ਉਸ ਜਗ਼੍ਹਾ ਤੇ ਅਜਨਬੀਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਰਹਿਣਗੇ। ਉੱਥੋਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਗੁਲਾਮ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬੁਰਾ ਸਲੂਕ ਕਰਣਗੇ। ਅਜਿਹਾ ਚਾਰ ਸੌ ਸਾਲ ਤੱਕ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹੇਗਾ।
ਪੈਦਾਇਸ਼ 12:1
ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਅਬਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਾ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਅਬਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਆਪਣਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ। ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਾ ਟੱਬਰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ, ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਜਾਹ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦਿਖਾਵਾਂਗਾ।

ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਪਿਉ-ਦਾਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਧਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਦੋਂ ਮਦਦ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਮਿਸਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਜਨਬੀਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਸਨ। ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਾਨ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਬਾਹਰ ਲਿਆਇਆ।

ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਔਲਾਦ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਇਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ। ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੀਆਂ ਔਲਾਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ।” ਉਸਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਹੋ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸਦੀ ਜਗ਼੍ਹਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਔਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ।” ਇਸਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਕੇਵਲ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ; ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਸੀਹ ਹੈ।
ਇਬਰਾਨੀਆਂ 11:9
ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਉਸ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਲੱਗਾ ਜਿਸਦਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਵਾਇਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਉਸ ਜਗ਼੍ਹਾ ਇੱਕ ਯਾਤਰੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿਹਚਾ ਕਾਰਣ ਕੀਤਾ। ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ, ਇਸਹਾਕ ਅਤੇ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨਾਲ ਤੰਬੂਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਿਹਾ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਉਹੀ ਵਾਇਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।
