“ਜੁਆਨ ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ ਨਾਲ ਨਰਮ ਵਤੀਰਾ” ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ ਯੋਆਬ ਨੂੰ ਅਬੀਸ਼ਈ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਤਈ ਨੂੰ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਮੇਰੀ ਖਾਤਿਰ ਉਸ ਜੁਆਨ ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ ਨਾਲ ਨਰਮ ਵਰਤਾਓ ਕਰਨਾ।” ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਕਪਤਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਆਗਿਆ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਣੀ।

ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਅਬੀਸ਼ਈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਵੇਖੋ! ਮੇਰਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ (ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਤਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ-ਸਮੂਹ ਚੋ ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸ਼ਿਮਈ) ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਰਾਪ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਵੱਧੇਰੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣ ਦਿਓ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਾਪ ਦੇਣ ਦੇਵੋ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।”

ਅਹੀਥੋਫ਼ਲ ਦੀ ਦਾਊਦ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਲਾਹ ਅਹੀਥੋਫ਼ਲ ਨੇ ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਵਾਨਗੀ ਦੇਵੋ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ 12,000 ਮਨੁੱਖ ਚੁਣ ਲਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਜ ਹੀ ਰਾਤ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕਰਾਂ।

ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਹੂਸ਼ਈ ਅਰਕੀ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਅਹੀਥੋਫ਼ਲ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਹੈ।” ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀ ਵਿਉਂਤ ਸੀ। ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਅਹੀਥੋਫ਼ਲ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਨਕਾਰਾ ਸਿੱਧ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਅਹੀਥੋਫ਼ਲ ਦੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਉਲਟਾ ਪਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੀ ਠਹਿਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ਪਾਵੇ।

ਉਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਯੋਆਬ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਭਾਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਟੁਕੜੇ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਦੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਤਦ ਵੀ ਮੈਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਅਬੀਸ਼ਈ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਤਈ ਨੂੰ ਤਕੀਦ ਨਾਲ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ, ਧਿਆਨ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਕਿ ‘ਜੁਆਨ ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਨਾ ਛੂਹੇ।’
