ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਧੀ ਨਾਲ ਦਾਊਦ ਦਾ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹਿਆ ਪਰ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨਾਲ ਚਾਲ ਖੇਡਣ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਉਂਤ ਬਣਾਈ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਇਹ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਧੀ ਮੇਰਬ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਆਹ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਫ਼ਿਰ ਤੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਤਕੜਾ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਸਮਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਂਗਾ। ਫ਼ਿਰ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਕੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਲੜਾਈਆਂ ਵੀ ਲੜਿਆ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ।” ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦੀ ਚਾਲ ਸੀ ਅਸਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਸੋਚ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ, “ਹੁਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਨੋਂ ਮਾਰਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਵੇਗੀ, ਸਗੋਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਮਰੇਗਾ।”

ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੇ ਸੋਚਿਆ, “ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਮੀਕਲ ਤੋਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਫ਼ਸਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਲਵਾਂਗਾ। ਮੈਂ ਮੀਕਲ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਊਦ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰਨ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਆਪੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਨੋਂ ਮਾਰ ਸੁੱਟਣਗੇ।” ਇਸ ਲਈ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਜੀ ਵਾਰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਤੂੰ ਅੱਜ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕੁੜੀ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ।”

ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਖੋ, ‘ਦਾਊਦ, ਰਾਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਉਸਦੀ ਧੀ ਖਾਤਿਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਦਹੇਜ਼ ਦੇਵੇ। ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਦਲਾ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਧੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਆਹ ਵਾਸਤੇ 100 ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਖੱਲਾਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।’” ਇਹ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਗੁਪਤ ਵਿਉਂਤ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਕਿ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਣਗੇ।

ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਨਿਕਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਯੋਆਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੜੇ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਥੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕਈ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਏ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੱਤੀ ਊਰਿੱਯਾਹ ਵੀ ਉੱਥੇ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਗਿਆ।

ਮੈਂ ਉਹੀ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਗਲਤ ਆਖਦੇ ਹੋਂ। ਹੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਜਿਸਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ਼ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਨਾਹ ਕੀਤੇ ਸਨ। ਮੈਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਾਨਣ ਲਈ ਸਵੀਕਾਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਗਲਤ ਸਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਹੀ ਸੀ। ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਿਆਂ ਨਿਰਪੱਖ ਹਨ।
