ਖਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਲਿਖਿਆ, “ਊਰਿੱਯਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਸਖਤ ਲੜਾਈ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕਲਾ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਮੁੜ ਆਵੋ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਵੱਢਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਵੇ।”

ਅਬੀਯਾਮ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਪਾਪ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਉਸਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਸਨ। ਉਹ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨਾਲ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਇੰਝ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਦੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਵਰਗਾ ਨਾ ਨਿਕਲਿਆ।

ਤਾਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਕਿ ਜਾਕੇ ਪਤਾ ਕਰੋ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਔਰਤ ਕੌਣ ਹੈ? ਇੱਕ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਉਸ ਔਰਤ ਦਾ ਨਾਉਂ ਬਥ-ਸ਼ਬਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਅਲੀਆਮ ਦੀ ਧੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੱਤੀ ਦੇ ਊਰਿੱਯਾਹ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਹੈ।”
