1 The man knew Eve his wife. She conceived, and gave birth to Cain, and said, "I have gotten a man with Yahweh's help."ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਆਦਮ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਹੱਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਜਿਨਸੀ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਬਣਾਏ ਅਤੇ ਹੱਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਸ ਬੱਚੇ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਕਇਨ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਹੱਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ, ਮੈਂ ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।”

2 Again she gave birth, to Cain's brother Abel. Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.ਇਸਤੋਂ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਹੱਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਹ ਬੱਚਾ ਕਇਨ ਦਾ ਭਰਾ ਹਾਬਲ ਸੀ। ਹਾਬਲ ਇੱਕ ਆਜੜੀ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ। ਕਇਨ ਇੱਕ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ।

3 As time passed, it happened that Cain brought an offering to Yahweh from the fruit of the ground.ਪਹਿਲਾ ਕਤਲ ਵਾਢੀ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ, ਕਇਨ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਲਈ ਸੁਗਾਤ ਵਜੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਫ਼ਲ ਅਤੇ ਸਬਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਇਆ। ਕਇਨ ਉਸ ਭੋਜਨ ਦਾ ਕੁਝ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਇਆ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਉਗਾਇਆ ਸੀ। ਪਰ ਹਾਬਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਇੱਜੜ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਨਵਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਇਆ।

4 Abel also brought some of the firstborn of his flock and of the fat of it. Yahweh respected Abel and his offering,ਪਰ ਹਾਬਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਇੱਜੜ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਪਹਿਲੋਠੇ ਜਨਮੇ ਜਾਨਵਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗੀਆਂ ਭੇਡਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਭੇਂਟ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਹਾਬਲ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਸੁਗਾਤ ਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖਿਆ।

5 but he didn't respect Cain and his offering. Cain was very angry, and the expression on his face fell.ਪਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਕਇਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਭੇਂਟ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਕਾਰਣ ਕਇਨ ਉਦਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਗਿਆ।

6 Yahweh said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why has the expression of your face fallen?ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਕਇਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਤੂੰ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਉਂ ਹੈਂ? ਤੇਰੇ ਚਿਹਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਝਲਕਦੀ ਹੈ?

7 If you do well, will it not be lifted up? If you don't do well, sin crouches at the door. Its desire is for you, but you are to rule over it."ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਚੰਗੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਠੀਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਫ਼ੇਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨ ਕਰ ਲਵਾਂਗਾ। ਪਰ ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੰਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪਾਪ ਤੇਰੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ। ਤੇਰਾ ਪਾਪ ਤੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਾਬੂ ਪਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੇਗਾ ਪਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਾਪ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਾਬੂ ਪਾਉਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ।”

8 Cain said to Abel, his brother, "Let's go into the field." It happened, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel, his brother, and killed him.ਕਇਨ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਹਾਬਲ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਆ, ਖੇਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੱਲੀਏ।” ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਇਨ ਤੇ ਹਾਬਲ ਖੇਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੱਲੇ ਗਏ। ਫ਼ੇਰ ਕਇਨ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਹਾਬਲ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

9 Yahweh said to Cain, "Where is Abel, your brother?" He said, "I don't know. Am I my brother's keeper?"ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ, ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਕਇਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਤੇਰਾ ਭਰਾ, ਹਾਬਲ, ਕਿੱਥੇ ਹੈ?” ਕਇਨ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਤਾ। ਕੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਕੰਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਦੀ ਦੇਖ-ਭਾਲ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ?”

10 Yahweh said, "What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries to me from the ground.ਤਾਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੂੰ ਕੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ? ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਤਲ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ! ਉਸਦਾ ਖੂਨ ਉਸ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।

11 Now you are cursed because of the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਤਲ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਉਸਦਾ ਖੂਨ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ ਗਈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਹੁਣ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਫ਼ਤਾਂ ਘੱਲਾਂਗਾ।

12 From now on, when you till the ground, it won't yield its strength to you. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth."ਅਤੀਤ ਵਿੱਚ, ਤੂੰ ਬੀਜਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੌਦੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਉਗਦੇ ਸਨ। ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਬੀਜੇਂਗਾ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੌਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਗਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰੇਗੀ। ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਘਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਤੂੰ ਥਾਂ-ਥਾਂ ਭਟਕੇਂਗਾ।”

13 Cain said to Yahweh, "My punishment is greater than I can bear.ਤਾਂ ਕਇਨ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਇਹ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਹਿਣ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧੇਰੇ ਹੈ!

14 Behold, you have driven me out this day from the surface of the ground. I will be hidden from your face, and I will be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth. It will happen that whoever finds me will kill me."ਦੇਖੋ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਂਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੱਢ ਰਹੇ ਹੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਦੇਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੱਕਾਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸੱਕਾਂਗਾ! ਮੇਰਾ ਘਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਥਾਂ-ਥਾਂ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲਵੇਗਾ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।”

15 Yahweh said to him, "Therefore whoever slays Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold." Yahweh appointed a sign for Cain, lest any finding him should strike him.ਤਾਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਕਇਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ! ਕਇਨ, ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਰੇਗਾ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ।” ਤਾਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਕਇਨ ਉੱਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਹ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਕਿਸੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।

16 Cain went out from Yahweh's presence, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.ਕਇਨ ਦਾ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਕਇਨ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਚੱਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਕਇਨ ਨੋਦ ਦੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।

17 Cain knew his wife. She conceived, and gave birth to Enoch. He built a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.ਕਇਨ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਨਸੀ ਰਿਸ਼ਤਾ ਜੋੜਿਆ। ਉਹ ਗਰਭਵਤੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਹਨੋਕ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਕਇਨ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਉਸਾਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹਨੋਕ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

18 To Enoch was born Irad. Irad became the father of Mehujael. Mehujael became the father of Methushael. Methushael became the father of Lamech.ਹਨੋਕ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਿਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਈਰਾਦ ਸੀ। ਈਰਾਦ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਿਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਹੂਯਾਏਲ ਸੀ। ਮਹੂਯਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਿਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਹੂਯਾਏਲ ਸੀ। ਮਹੂਯਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਿਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਲਾਮਕ ਸੀ।

19 Lamech took two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.ਲਾਮਕ ਨੇ ਦੋ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਾਦੀ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਸਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਪਤਨੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਦਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਸਰੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜ਼ਿੱਲਾਹ ਸੀ।

20 Adah gave birth to Jabal, who was the father of those who dwell in tents and have cattle.ਆਦਾਹ ਨੇ ਯਾਬਲ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਯਾਬਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੀ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਤੰਬੂਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਸ਼ੂ ਪਾਲਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਬਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ।

21 His brother's name was Jubal, who was the father of all who handle the harp and pipe.ਆਦਾਹ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਵੀ ਸੀ ਜੂਬਲ। (ਜੂਬਲ, ਯਾਬਲ ਦਾ ਭਰਾ ਸੀ) ਜੂਬਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੀ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਸਰੰਗੀ ਤੇ ਬੰਸਰੀ ਬਜਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ।

22 Zillah also gave birth to Tubal Cain, the forger of every cutting instrument of brass and iron. Tubal Cain's sister was Naamah.ਜ਼ਿੱਲਾਹ ਨੇ ਤੂਬਲ ਕਇਨ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਤੂਬਲ ਕਇਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੀ। ਜਿਹੜੇ ਤਾਂਬੇ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਹੇ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਤੂਬਲ ਕਇਨ ਦੀ ਭੈਣ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਮਾਹ ਸੀ।

23 Lamech said to his wives, "Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice, You wives of Lamech, listen to my speech, For I have slain a man for wounding me, A young man for bruising me.ਲਾਮਕ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਪਤਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ: “ਆਦਾਹ ਤੇ ਜ਼ਿੱਲਾਹ, ਮੇਰੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣੋ! ਲਾਮਕ ਦੀਓ ਪਤਨੀਓ ਮੇਰੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣੋ! ਮੈਂ ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਖਮੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਜਵਾਨ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੁਟਿਆ।

24 If Cain will be avenged seven times, Truly Lamech seventy-seven times."ਕਇਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡੀ ਸੀ! ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਵਡੇਰੀ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ!”

25 Adam knew his wife again. She gave birth to a son, and named him Seth. For, she said, "God has appointed me another child instead of Abel, for Cain killed him."ਆਦਮ ਤੇ ਹੱਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਆਦਮ ਨੇ ਫ਼ੇਰ ਹੱਵਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਨਸੀ ਰਿਸ਼ਤਾ ਜੋੜਿਆ। ਅਤੇ ਹੱਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੇਥ ਰੱਖਿਆ। ਹੱਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਕਇਨ ਨੇ ਹਾਬਲ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਸੇਥ ਹੈ।”

26 There was also born a son to Seth, and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on Yahweh's name.ਸੇਥ ਦੇ ਵੀ ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੋਇਆ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਨੋਸ਼ ਰੱਖਿਆ। ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ, ਲੋਕ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਅੱਗੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੇ।
