1 God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel, and live there. Make there an altar to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother."ਯਾਕੂਬ ਬੈਤਏਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਬੈਤਏਲ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਚੱਲਾ ਜਾਹ। ਉੱਥੇ ਰਹਿ ਅਤੇ ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਜਗਵੇਦੀ ਉਸਾਰ। ਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਉਦੋਂ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਏਸਾਓ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਭੱਜ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਲਈ ਉੱਥੇ ਜਗਵੇਦੀ ਉਸਾਰ।”

2 Then Jacob said to his household, and to all who were with him, "Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, change your garments.ਇਸ ਲਈ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਨੌਕਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੱਕੜ ਅਤੇ ਧਾਤ ਦੇ ਬਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਬਾਹ ਕਰ ਦਿਉ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਹਨ। ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਬਣਾਉ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਫ਼ ਵਸਤਰ ਪਹਿਨੋ।

3 Let us arise, and go up to Bethel. I will make there an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went."ਅਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਥਾਂ ਛੱਡ ਦਿਆਂਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਬੈਤਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਚੱਲੇ ਜਾਵਾਂਗੇ। ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਲਈ ਜਗਵੇਦੀ ਉਸਾਰਾਂਗਾ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ। ਅਤੇ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਵੀ ਮੈਂ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।”

4 They gave to Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the rings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.ਇਸ ਲਈ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੋਲ ਰੱਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ। ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਈਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੁੰਦਰਾਂ ਵੀ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ। ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਕਮ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਕਸਬੇ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਇੱਕ ਓਕ ਦੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਦੱਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

5 They traveled: and a terror of God was on the cities that were round about them, and they didn't pursue the sons of Jacob.ਯਾਕੂਬ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਚੱਲੇ ਗਏ। ਉਸ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਣ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਪਰ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਡਰ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ।

6 So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan (the same is Bethel), he and all the people who were with him.ਇਸ ਲਈ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਲੂਜ਼ ਵਿਖੇ ਚੱਲੇ ਗਏ। ਲੂਜ਼ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੁਣ ਬੈਤਏਲ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਕਨਾਨ ਦੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੈ।

7 He built an altar there, and called the place El Beth El; because there God was revealed to him, when he fled from the face of his brother.ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨੇ ਉੱਥੇ ਇੱਕ ਜਗਵੇਦੀ ਉਸਾਰੀ। ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ “ਏਲ ਬੈਤਏਲ” ਰੱਖਿਆ। ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹੀ ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਸੀ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਭੱਜ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।

8 Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the oak; and the name of it was called Allon Bacuth.ਦੋਬਰਾਹ, ਰਿਬਕਾਹ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ, ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਮਰੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਥੇ ਬੈਤਏਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਇੱਕ ਓਕ ਦੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਦਫ਼ਨਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅੱਲੋਨ ਬਾਕੂਥ ਰੱਖਿਆ।

9 God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Paddan Aram, and blessed him.ਯਾਕੂਬ ਦਾ ਨਵਾਂ ਨਾਮ ਜਦੋਂ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਪਦਨ ਆਰਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਪਸ ਆਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਫ਼ੇਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਸ ਦਿੱਤੀ।

10 God said to him, "Your name is Jacob. Your name shall not be Jacob any more, but your name will be Israel." He named him Israel.ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਬਦਲ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ। ਹੁਣ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਤੇਰਾ ਨਵਾਂ ਨਾਮ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।” ਇਸ ਲਈ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਵਾਂ ਨਾਮ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਰੱਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

11 God said to him, "I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations will be from you, and kings will come out of your loins.ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਸਰਬ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਮਾਨ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ। ਹਾਂ। ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਅਸੀਸ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ: ਬਹੁਤ ਔਲਾਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਕੌਮ ਦੀ ਸਾਜਨਾ ਕਰ। ਹੋਰ ਕੌਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਰਾਜੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਣਗੇ।

12 The land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give it to you, and to your seed after you will I give the land."ਮੈਂ ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਹਾਕ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਖਾਸ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ। ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਮੂਹ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਹੋਣਗੇ।”

13 God went up from him in the place where he spoke with him.ਫ਼ੇਰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਚੱਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ।

14 Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he spoke with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink-offering on it, and poured oil on it.ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਯਾਦਗਾਰੀ ਪੱਥਰ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨੇ ਪੱਥਰ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਅ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਲ ਛਿੜਕ ਕੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ। ਇਹ ਥਾਂ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਖਾਸ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇੱਥੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ। ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬੈਤਏਲ ਰੱਖਿਆ।

15 Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him "Bethel."

16 They traveled from Bethel. There was still some distance to come to Ephrath, and Rachel travailed. She had hard labor.ਜਨਮ ਦੇਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਰਾਖੇਲ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਟੋਲੇ ਨੇ ਬੈਤਏਲ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਜਦੋਂ ਹਾਲੇ ਉਹ ਅਫ਼ਰਾਥ (ਬੈਤਲਹਮ) ਤੋਂ ਥੋੜੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਦੂਰੀ ਤੇ ਹੀ ਸਨ, ਰਾਖੇਲ ਨੇ ਜਨਮ ਦੇਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਗਰਭ ਪੀੜਾਂ ਹੋਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਈਆਂ।

17 It happened that, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her, "Don't be afraid, for now you will have another son."ਜਦੋਂ ਰਾਖੇਲ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਬੱਚਾ ਜਨਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੰਨੀ ਤਕਲੀਫ਼ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ ਦਾਈ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਵੇਖਕੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਰਾਖੇਲ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ। ਤੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦੇ ਰਹੀਂ ਹੈਂ।”

18 It happened, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she named him Ben-oni,{"Ben-oni" means "son of my trouble."} but his father named him Benjamin.{"Benjamin" means "son of my right hand."}ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਰਾਖੇਲ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ, ਰਾਖੇਲ ਨੇ ਲੜਕੇ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਨ-ਓਨੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ। ਪਰ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨ ਨਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

19 Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath (the same is Bethlehem).ਅਫ਼ਰਾਥ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਰਾਖੇਲ ਨੂੰ ਦਫ਼ਨਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ। (ਅਫ਼ਰਾਥ ਬੈਤਲਹਮ ਹੈ।)

20 Jacob set up a pillar on her grave. The same is the Pillar of Rachel's grave to this day.ਅਤੇ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨੇ ਰਾਖੇਲ ਦੀ ਕਬਰ ਦਾ ਆਦਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉੱਥੇ ਖਾਸ ਪੱਥਰ ਰੱਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਹ ਖਾਸ ਪੱਥਰ ਅੱਜ ਵੀ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੈ।

21 Israel traveled, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Eder.ਫ਼ੇਰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ (ਯਾਕੂਬ) ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਏਦਰ ਮੀਨਾਰ ਦੇ ਦੱਖਣ ਵੱਲ ਡੇਰਾ ਲਾ ਲਿਆ।

22 It happened, while Israel lived in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father's concubine, and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਉੱਥੇ ਰਹਿ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਤਾਂ ਰਊਬੇਨ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਬਿਲਹਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਸੁੱਤਾ। ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੁਣਿਆ। ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦਾ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਦੇ 12 ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸਨ।

23 The sons of Leah: Reuben (Jacob's firstborn), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.ਯਾਕੂਬ ਅਤੇ ਲੇਆਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸਨ: ਯਾਕੂਬ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲੋਠਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਰਊਬੇਨ, ਸ਼ਿਮਓਨ, ਲੇਵੀ, ਯਹੂਦਾਹ, ਯਿੱਸਾਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਬੂਲੁਨ।

24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.ਯਾਕੂਬ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਖੇਲ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸਨ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨ।

25 The sons of Bilhah (Rachel's handmaid): Dan and Naphtali.ਬਿਲਹਾਹ ਰਾਖੇਲ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਸੀ। ਯਾਕੂਬ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਲਹਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸਨ ਦਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਨਫ਼ਤਾਲੀ।

26 The sons of Zilpah (Leah's handmaid): Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddan Aram.ਜ਼ਿਲਪਾਹ ਲੇਆਹ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਸੀ। ਯਾਕੂਬ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਲਪਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸਨ ਗਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਆਸ਼ੇਰ। ਇਹ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸਨ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਪਦਨ ਅਰਾਮ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਨਮੇ ਸਨ।

27 Jacob came to Isaac his father, to Mamre, to Kiriath Arba (the same is Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac lived as foreigners.ਯਾਕੂਬ ਕਿਰਿਯਥ ਅਰਬਾ (ਹਬਰੋਨ) ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਇਸਹਾਕ ਕੋਲ ਮਮਰੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਚੱਲਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਹੀ ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਹੈ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਹਾਕ ਰਹਿ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਸਨ।

28 The days of Isaac were one hundred eighty years.ਇਸਹਾਕ 180 ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਜੀਵਿਆ।

29 Isaac gave up the spirit, and died, and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. Esau and Jacob, his sons, buried him.ਫ਼ੇਰ ਇਸਹਾਕ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਇਸਹਾਕ ਨੇ ਲੰਮੀ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਜੀਵੀ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਏਸਾਓ ਅਤੇ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਥਾਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਦਫ਼ਨਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
