ਫ਼ੇਰ ਰਾਜੇ ਨਬੂਕਦਨੱਸਰ ਨੇ ਅਸ਼ਪਨਜ਼ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ। (ਅਸ਼ਪਨਜ਼ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਖੁਸਰਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਆਗੂ ਸੀ।) ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਅਸ਼ਪਨਜ਼ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਮੁੰਡਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਲਈ ਆਖਿਆ। ਨਬੂਕਦਨੱਸਰ ਆਮ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ, ਉੱਚ ਸ਼੍ਰੇਣੀ ਦੇ ਘਰਾਣਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਘਰਾਣੇ ਤੋਂ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ।

ਸੱਤਵੇਂ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਬਨਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਇਸ਼ਮਾਏਲ (ਜੋ ਕਿ ਅਲੀਸ਼ਾਮਾ ਦਾ ਪੋਤਰਾ ਸੀ) ਅਹੀਕਾਮ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਗਦਲਯਾਹ ਕੋਲ ਆਇਆ। ਇਸ਼ਮਾਏਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਸ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਆਇਆ। ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਮਿਸਪਾਹ ਕਸਬੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਏ। ਇਸ਼ਮਾਏਲ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦਾ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਰਹਿ ਚੁੱਕਿਆ ਸੀ। ਇਸ਼ਮਾਏਲ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਗਦਲਯਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਭੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ।
