ਪਰ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੇਰਾ ਪਿਉ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਗੂੜੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹਾਂ। ਤੇਰੇ ਪਿਉ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਯੋਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ, ਜੇਕਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗ ਗਿਆ ਉਹ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।’ ਪਰ ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਾਨ ਦੀ ਸੌਂਹ ਕਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚਕਾਰ ਹੁਣ ਇੱਕ ਹੀ ਕਦਮ ਦੀ ਵਿੱਥ ਹੈ।”

ਦਾਊਦ ਦਾ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਪਰ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੋਚਿਆ, “ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਿਨ ਫ਼ੜੇਗਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ। ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਇਹੀ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਦੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੀ ਬਚਕੇ ਨਿਕਲ ਜਾਵਾਂ। ਤਦ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਰੀ ਭਾਲ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ। ਇਉਂ ਮੈਂ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਬੱਚ ਜਾਵਾਂਗਾ।”

ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਅਲੀਸ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਇੱਥੇ ਰੁਕ ਜਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬੈਤਏਲ ਤੀਕ ਜਾਣ ਲਈਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ।” ਪਰ ਅਲੀਸ਼ਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਮੈਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਸੌਂਹ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਨਾ ਜਾਵਾਂਗਾ।” ਤਦ ਇਹ ਦੋਨੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬੈਤਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਰ ਪਏ।

Hebrews 6:16
