Ecclesiastes 2
12 ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਹੀ ਉੱਤਰ ਹੈ ਤਦ ਮੈਂ ਫਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਸਿਆਣਪ, ਅਤੇ ਗ਼ਲਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੂਰੱਖਤਾਈ ਤੇ ਸੋਚ-ਵਿੱਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ। ਰਾਜੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਕੀ ਕੰਮ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਜੋ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਰਾਜੇ ਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ।
13 ਮੈਂ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਅਕਲਮਂਦੀ ਬੇਵਕੂਫ਼ੀ ਉੱਪਰ ਓਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਾਭਦਾਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਲਾਭਦਾਇੱਕ ਹੈ।
14 ਇਹ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੈ: ਸਿਆਣਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਮਾਗ਼ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਾਂਗੂ ਦੇਖਣ ਲਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿੱਧਰ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਮੂਰਖ ਓਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਬੰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਅਖੀਰੀ ਇੱਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਅੰਤ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਦੇ ਹਨ।
15 ਮੈਂ ਸੋਚਿਆ, “ਜਿਸ ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਾਂਗਾ। ਇਸ ਲਈ, ਮੈਂ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਬਣਨ ਲਈ ਕਿਉਂ ਇੰਨੀ ਸਖਤ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਕੀਤੀ?” ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਇਹ ਵੀ ਅਰਬਹੀਣ ਹੈ।”
16 ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਜਾਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖੇਗਾ। ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਜਲਦੀ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ, ਲੋਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਣਗੇ। ਇਹ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਮਾੜਾ ਹੈ ਇੱਕ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਇੱਕ ਮੂਰਖ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੀ ਮਰਦਾ।
12 And I turned myself to behold wisdom, and madness, and folly: for what can the man do that cometh after the king? even that which hath been already done.
13 Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness.
14 The wise man’s eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all.
15 Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity.
16 For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool.

Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness.
14 ਇਹ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੈ: ਸਿਆਣਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਮਾਗ਼ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਾਂਗੂ ਦੇਖਣ ਲਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿੱਧਰ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਮੂਰਖ ਓਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਬੰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਅਖੀਰੀ ਇੱਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਅੰਤ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਦੇ ਹਨ।

15 ਮੈਂ ਸੋਚਿਆ, “ਜਿਸ ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਾਂਗਾ। ਇਸ ਲਈ, ਮੈਂ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਬਣਨ ਲਈ ਕਿਉਂ ਇੰਨੀ ਸਖਤ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਕੀਤੀ?” ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਇਹ ਵੀ ਅਰਬਹੀਣ ਹੈ।”
Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity.
16 ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਜਾਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖੇਗਾ। ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਜਲਦੀ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ, ਲੋਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਣਗੇ। ਇਹ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਮਾੜਾ ਹੈ ਇੱਕ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਇੱਕ ਮੂਰਖ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੀ ਮਰਦਾ।
