ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸਤੀਫ਼ਾਨ ਤੇ ਪੱਥਰਾਵ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਆਖਦਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ, “ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਯਿਸੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਲੈ।”

ஆனால் விசுவாசத்தினாலே நீதிமானாவதைப் பற்றி வேதவாக்கியம், “யார் மோட்சத்துக்குப் போகக் கூடியவன் என்று நீ உனக்குள்ளே சொல்லாதே.” (இதற்கு “எவனொருவன் மோட்சத்துக்குப் போய் கிறிஸ்துவை பூமிக்கு அழைத்து வரக்கூடியவன்?” என்று பொருள்)
