ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਆਖਿਆ, ‘ਇਹ ਰੋਮੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਤੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ਼ ਲਾਏ ਦੋਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਅਵਸਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ।’

King James Version (KJV)
To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before that he which is accused have the accusers face to face, and have licence to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him.

American Standard Version (ASV)
To whom I answered, that it is not the custom of the Romans to give up any man, before that the accused have the accusers face to face, and have had opportunity to make his defense concerning the matter laid against him.
