ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਭੁੱਲ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਰ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਇੱਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਲਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਥੱਕੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਭੁੱਖੇ-ਭਾਣੇ ਸਨ ਉਹ ਬੜੇ ਔਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੌਂਹ ਚੁਕਾ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ, “ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੱਜ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਤੀਕ ਭੋਜਨ ਖਾਵੇ, ਜਦ ਤੱਕ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾ ਨਾ ਦੇਵਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਮਿਲੇਗੀ।” ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਨੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ।
