நான் பரிபூரணம் அடைகிறதினால் மறுதலித்து, கர்த்தர் யார் என்று சொல்லாதபடிக்கும்; தரித்திரப்படுகிறதினால் திருடி, என் தேவனுடைய நாமத்தை வீணிலே வழங்காதபடிக்கும், என் படியை எனக்கு அளந்து என்னைப்போஷித்தருளும்.

நான் பரிபூரணம் அடைகிறதினால் மறுதலித்து, கர்த்தர் யார் என்று சொல்லாதபடிக்கும்; தரித்திரமடைகிறதினால் திருடி, என்னுடைய தேவனுடைய நாமத்தை வீணாக கெடுக்காதபடிக்கும், என்னுடைய படியை எனக்கு அளந்து எனக்கு உணவளியும்.

ஒருவேளை, என்னிடம் தேவைக்கு அதிகமான பொருட்கள் இருந்தால், நீர் எனக்குத் தேவையில்லை என்று எண்ணத் தொடங்குவேன். ஒரு வேளை நான் ஏழையாக இருந்தாலோ திருடலாம். இதனால் நான் தேவனுடைய நாமத்திற்கு அவமானத்தைத் தேடித்தருவேன்.

Lest I be full, and deny `thee’, and say, Who is Jehovah? Or lest I be poor, and steal, And use profanely the name of my God.
