Jeremiah 44
1 ଯେଉଁ ୟିହୁଦୀଯମାନେ ମିଶର ଦେଶସ୍ଥ ମିର୍ଦୋଲ ରେ, ତଫନ ହଷେ ରେ, ନୋଫ ରେ ଓ ପଥ୍ରୋପ ପ୍ରଦେଶ ରେ ବାସ କଲେ ସମାନଙ୍କେ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ଯ ରେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କଠାରୁ ଏହି ବାକ୍ଯ ଯିରିମିୟଙ୍କ ନିକଟରେ ଉପସ୍ଥିତ ହେଲା।
2 ସୈନ୍ଯାଧିପତି ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଇଶ୍ରାୟେଲର ପରମେଶ୍ବର ଏହି କଥା କହନ୍ତି, ଆମ୍ଭେ ୟିରୁଶାଲମ ଉପ ରେ ଓ ଯିହୁଦାର ସବୁ ନଗର ଉପ ରେ ଯେଉଁସବୁ ଅମଙ୍ଗଳ ଘଟାଇଅଛୁ ତାହା ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଦେଖିଅଛ। ଆଉ ସଗେୁଡ଼ିକ ଜନମାନବ ଶୂନ୍ଯ ପ୍ରସ୍ତର ଗଦା ରେ ଆଜି ପରିଣତ ହାଇେଅଛି।
3 କାରଣ ସମାନେେ ଆମ୍ଭକୁ ବିଭକ୍ତ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ଦୁଷ୍କର୍ମ କଲେ। ସମାନେେ ଅନ୍ୟ ଦବଗେଣଙ୍କ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ଯ ରେ ଧୂପ ଜଳାଇଲେ ଓ ପୂଜା କରିବାକୁ ଗଲେ। ଯେଉଁ କାର୍ୟ୍ଯ ତୁମ୍ଭର ଲୋକମାନେ ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭ ପୂର୍ବପୁରୁଷମାନେ ଅତୀତ ରେ କରୁ ନ ଥିଲେ।
4 ତଥାପି ଆମ୍ଭେ ଆମ୍ଭର ଦାସ ଭବିଷ୍ଯଦବକ୍ତାମାନଙ୍କୁ ବାରମ୍ବାର ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ନିକଟକୁ ପଠାଇଲୁ। ଆଉ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଜଣାଇଲୁ, 'ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଏହି ଘୃଣ୍ଯ କର୍ମ କର ନାହିଁ, ଆମ୍ଭେ ତାହା ଘୃଣା କରୁ।'
5 ମାତ୍ର ସମାନେେ ସମାନଙ୍କେର କଥା ଶୁଣିଲେ ନାହିଁ। ସମାନେେ ଆପଣା ଦୁଷ୍କର୍ମରୁ ନିବୃତ୍ତ ହାଇେ ଅନ୍ୟ ଦବଗେଣଙ୍କ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ଯ ରେ ଧୂପ ନ ଜଳାଇବା ପାଇଁ ଭବିଷ୍ଯଦବକ୍ତାଙ୍କ ବାକ୍ଯ ରେ କର୍ଣ୍ଣପାତ କଲେ ନାହିଁ।
6 ତେଣୁ ଆମ୍ଭେ ଆମ୍ଭର ପ୍ରଚଣ୍ଡ କୋର୍ଧ ଓ କୋପ ପ୍ରକାଶ କଲୁ। ଯିହୁଦାର ନଗର ସମୂହ ଓ ୟିରୁଶାଲମର ସମସ୍ତ ପଥ ସହେି କୋରଧାଗ୍ନି ରେ ପ୍ରଜ୍ବଳିତ ହେଲା। ଆଉ ମାରେ କୋରଧ ଯୋଗୁଁ ୟିରୁଶାଲମ ଓ ଯିହୁଦାର ନଗରସବୁ ଆଜି ଧ୍ବଂସସ୍ତୁପ ରେ ପରିଣତ ହାଇେଅଛି।
7 ତେଣୁ ସୈନ୍ଯାଧିପତି ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଇଶ୍ରାୟେଲର ପରମେଶ୍ବର କହନ୍ତି, ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ କାହିଁକି ଏହି ମହାପାପ କରି ନିଜ ନିଜ ଜୀବନକୁ ଆଘାତ କରୁଛ ? ଏହାଦ୍ବାରା ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ନିଜ ନିଜ ସର୍କୀଯ ପୁରୁଷ, ସ୍ତ୍ରୀ, ବାଳକ ଓ ସ୍ତନ୍ଯପାଯୀ ଶିଶୁମାନଙ୍କୁ ଯିହୁଦା ପରିବାରରୁ ବିଚ୍ଛିନ୍ନ କରୁଅଛ। ଆଉ କାହାରିକୁ ଯିହୁଦାର ଅବଶିଷ୍ଟ ରଖୁ ନାହଁ।
8 ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଏହି ଯେ ମିଶର ଦେଶ ରେ ପ୍ରବାସ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ଆସିଅଛ, ଏ ସ୍ଥାନ ରେ ଅନ୍ୟ ଦବଗେଣ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ଯ ରେ ଧୂପ ଜଳାଇ କାହିଁକି ଆପଣା ଆପଣା ହସ୍ତକୃତ କର୍ମଦ୍ବାରା ଆମ୍ଭକୁ ବିରକ୍ତ କରୁଅଛ ? ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ବିନଷ୍ଟ ହବେ ଓ ପୃଥିବୀସ୍ଥ ସମସ୍ତ ଗୋଷ୍ଠୀ ମଧିଅରେ ଅଭିଶପ୍ତ ଓ ନିନ୍ଦାର ପାତ୍ର ହବେ।
9 ଯିହୁଦା ନଗରର ଓ ୟିରୁଶାଲମର ରାଜପଥରେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ପୂର୍ବପୁରୁଷମାନେ ଏବଂ ଯିହୁଦାର ରାଜାମାନେ ଓ ସମାନଙ୍କେର ସ୍ତ୍ରୀମାନେ କରିଥିବା ଅପରାଧ ଏବଂ ତୁମ୍ଭର ନିଜର କୁକର୍ମ ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭର ସ୍ତ୍ରୀମାନଙ୍କର କୁକର୍ମ, ତୁମ୍ଭେ ପାଶୋରି ଦଇେଛ କି ?
10 ଏପରିକି ଏବେ ମଧ୍ଯ ସମାନେେ ବିନଯୀ ହାଇେ ନାହାଁନ୍ତି କିଅବା ଆମ୍ଭପ୍ରତି ଭକ୍ତିଭାବ ଦଖାଇେ ନାହାଁନ୍ତି। ଆମ୍ଭେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ପୂର୍ବପୁରୁଷମାନଙ୍କୁ ଦଇେଥିବା ବିଧି ଓ ବ୍ଯବସ୍ଥା ଅନୁସାରେ ସମାନେେ ଆଚରଣ କରି ନାହାଁନ୍ତି।
11 ଏଣୁ ସୈନ୍ଯାଧିପତି ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଇଶ୍ରାୟେଲର ପରମେଶ୍ବର ଏହି କଥା କହନ୍ତି, ଦେଖ, ଆମ୍ଭେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ବିପକ୍ଷ ରେ ଓ ସମଗ୍ର ଯିହୁଦା ବିପକ୍ଷ ରେ ଅମଙ୍ଗଳ ଓ ଧ୍ବଂସ ଘଟାଇବା ପାଇଁ ମନସ୍ଥ କରିଅଛୁ।
12 ପୁଣି ଯିହୁଦାର ଯେଉଁ ଅବଶିଷ୍ଟାଂଶ ଲୋକେ ମିଶର ଦେଶ ରେ ପ୍ରବାସ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ସଠାେକୁ ୟିବା ଲାଗି ଆଗ୍ରହୀ ହାଇେଅଛନ୍ତି, ଆମ୍ଭେ ସମାନଙ୍କେୁ ଧରିବା। ସମାନେେ ସମସ୍ତେ ଲୁପ୍ତ ହବେେ, ମିଶର ଦେଶ ରେ ପତିତ ହବେେ। ଖଡ୍ଗ ଓ ଦୁର୍ଭିକ୍ଷ ରେ ସମାନେେ ଲୁପ୍ତ ହବେେ। କ୍ଷୁଦ୍ର ଓ ମହାନ୍ ସମସ୍ତେ ଖଡ୍ଗ ଓ ଦୁର୍ଭିକ୍ଷ ରେ ମରିବେ। ଆଉ ସମାନେେ ଅନ୍ୟ ଦେଶଗୁଡ଼ିକ ସମ୍ମୁଖ ରେ ଅଭିଶାପ, ବିସ୍ମଯ, ଶାପ ଓ ନିନ୍ଦାର ପାତ୍ର ହବେେ।
13 ଆଉ ଆମ୍ଭେ ଯେପରି ଖଡ୍ଗ, ଦୁର୍ଭିକ୍ଷ ଓ ମହାମାରୀ ଦ୍ବାରା ୟିରୁଶାଲମକୁ ଦଣ୍ଡ ଦଇେଥିଲୁ, ସହେିପରି ମିଶର ଦେଶ ରେ ବାସ କରୁଥିବା ପ୍ରବାସୀମାନଙ୍କୁ ଦଣ୍ଡ ଦବେି।
14 ଯିହୁଦାର ଯେଉଁ ଅବଶିଷ୍ଟ ଲୋକେ ଯିହୁଦା ଦେଶକୁ ଫରେିୟାଇ ସଠାେ ରେ ବାସ କରିବାକୁ ଇଚ୍ଛାକରି ମିଶର ଦେଶ ରେ ପ୍ରବାସ କରିବାକୁ ଆସିଅଛନ୍ତି, ସମାନଙ୍କେ ମଧ୍ଯରୁ କହେି ଉଦ୍ଧାର କିଅବା ରକ୍ଷା ପାଇବେ ନାହିଁ। କାରଣ ପଳାତକ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କ ବିନା ଆଉ କହେି ଫରେିଯିବେ ନାହିଁ।
15 ସେତବେେଳେ ବହୁ ସ୍ତ୍ରୀ ଲୋକ ଯିହୁଦାର ଅନ୍ୟ ଦବଗେଣଙ୍କ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ଯ ରେ ଧୂପ ଜଳାଉଥିଲେ। ସମାନଙ୍କେର ସ୍ବାମୀମାନେ ଏହା ଜାଣିଲେ ମଧ୍ଯ ସମାନଙ୍କେୁ ନିବୃତ୍ତ କରୁ ନ ଥିଲେ। ସମାନଙ୍କେ ନିକଟରେ ଠିଆ ହାଇେଥିବା ସ୍ତ୍ରୀମାନଙ୍କର ମହାସମାଜ ଆଉ ମିଶରର ପାଥ୍ରୋଷ୍ ପ୍ରଦେଶ ରେ ବାସକାରୀ ସମସ୍ତ ଲୋକ ଯିରିମିୟଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ,
16 ତୁମ୍ଭେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ନାମ ରେ ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଯେଉଁ କଥା କହିଅଛ, ତୁମ୍ଭର ସହେି କଥା ଆମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଶୁଣିବୁ ନାହିଁ।
17 ଆମ୍ଭେ ନିଶ୍ଚିତ କରିବୁ ଯେ ହତେୁ ଆମ୍ଭେ ପ୍ରତିଜ୍ଞା କରିବୁ। ଅର୍ଥାତ୍ ଯିହୁଦାର ନଗର ସମୂହ ରେ ଓ ୟିରୁଶାଲମର ସମସ୍ତ ପଥରେ ଆମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଯେପରି କରିଅଛୁ ଓ ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ପୂର୍ବପୁରୁଷମାନେ, ରାଜଗଣ ଓ ଅଧିପତିଗଣ ଯେପରି କରିଅଛନ୍ତି, ଆମ୍ଭମାନେେ ପଯେ ନବୈେଦ୍ଯ ଉତ୍ସର୍ଗ କରିବୁ। କାରଣ ସେ ସମୟରେ ଆମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଆମ୍ଭମାନେେ ପ୍ରଚୁର ଆହାର ପାଇଲୁ ଏବଂ ସୁଖ ରେ ଥିଲୁ। କୌଣସି ଅମଙ୍ଗଳ ଆମପ୍ରତି ଘଟି ନ ଥିଲା।
18 ମାତ୍ର ଆମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଯେତବେେଳେ ଆକାଶ ରାଣୀ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ଯ ରେ ଧୂପ ଜଳାଇବା ଓ ପଯେ ନବୈେଦ୍ଯ ଢ଼ାଳିବା ଛାଡ଼ିଦଲେୁ, ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ସବୁ ବିଷଯ ରେ ଅଭାବ ଘଟିଲା ଓ ଆମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଖଡ୍ଗ ଓ ଦୁର୍ଭିକ୍ଷ ରେ ଲୁପ୍ତ ହେଲୁ।
19 ତା'ପ ରେ ସହେି ସ୍ତ୍ରୀମାନେ ଯିରିମିୟଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, ଆମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ସ୍ବାମୀମାନଙ୍କର ଅନୁମତି ରେ ଆକାଶ ରାଣୀ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ଯ ରେ ଧୂପ ଜଳାଇଲୁ, ପଯେ ନବୈେଦ୍ଯ ଢ଼ାଳିଲୁ ଓ ପୂଜା ନିମନ୍ତେ ପିଠା ପ୍ରସ୍ତୁତ କଲୁ।
20 ତା'ପ ରେ ଯିରିମିୟ ସମସ୍ତ ପୁରୁଷ ଓ ସ୍ତ୍ରୀଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, ଯେଉଁମାନେ ତାଙ୍କୁ ପ୍ରତ୍ଯୁତ୍ତର କରିଥିଲେ।
21 ଯିହୁଦାର ନଗର ସମୂହ ରେ ଓ ୟିରୁଶାଲମର ସକଳ ପଥରେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ପୂର୍ବପୁରୁଷମାନେ, ରାଜାଗଣ, ଅଧିପତିଗଣ ଓ ଦେଶସ୍ଥ ଲୋକ ସମସ୍ତେ ଯେଉଁ ଧୂପ ଜଳାଇଲେ, ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ କ'ଣ ତାହା ସ୍ମରଣ କଲେ ନାହିଁ ଓ ତାହା କ'ଣ ତାଙ୍କ ମନେ ପଡ଼ିଲା ନାହିଁ ?
22 ତା'ପ ରେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ଦୁଷ୍କର୍ମ କୃତ ଘୃଣ୍ଯକର୍ମ ଯୋଗୁଁ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଆଉ ସହ୍ଯ କରିପାରିଲେ ନାହିଁ, ତେଣୁ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ଦେଶ ନିବାସ ବିହୀନ ହାଇେ ଶୂନ୍ଯ ମରୁ ରେ ପରିଣତ ହାଇେଅଛି। ଲୋକମାନେ ଏହାକୁ ଅଭିଶାପ ରୂପେ ବ୍ଯବହାର କରନ୍ତି।
23 ଏ ସମସ୍ତ ଅମଙ୍ଗଳ ଘଟିବାର କାରଣ ହେଉଛି, ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଅନ୍ୟ ଦବେତା ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ଯ ରେ ଧୂପ ଜଳାଇ ଅଛ, ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ବିରୁଦ୍ଧ ରେ ପାପ କରିଅଛ ଓ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ବାକ୍ଯ ରେ ଅବଧାନ କରି ନାହଁ, ପୁଣି ତାଙ୍କର ବ୍ଯବସ୍ଥା ଓ ବିଧି ପ୍ରମାଣ ବାକ୍ଯାନୁସା ରେ ଆଚରଣ କରି ନାହଁ।
24 ତା'ପ ରେ ଯିରିମିୟ ସମସ୍ତ ପୁରୁଷ ଓ ସ୍ତ୍ରୀ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, ହେ ମିଶର ଦେଶ ରେ ଥିବା ଯିହୁଦାର ଲୋକମାନେ, ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କର ବାକ୍ଯ ଶୁଣ।
25 ସୈନ୍ଯାଧିପତି ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଇଶ୍ରାୟେଲର ପରମେଶ୍ବର ଏହି କଥା କହନ୍ତି, 'ତୁମ୍ଭେ ସ୍ତ୍ରୀ ଲୋକମାନେ କହିଥିଲ, ଆମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଆକାଶ ରାଣୀ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ଯ ରେ ଧୂପ ଜଳାଇବା ପାଇଁ ଓ ପଯେ ନବୈେଦ୍ଯ ଢ଼ାଳିବା ପାଇଁ ଯେଉଁ ଶପଥ କରିଅଛୁ ତାହା ଅବଶ୍ଯ ସିଦ୍ଧ କରିବୁ। ତେଣୁ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଆଗଇେ ଚାଲ, ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ଶପଥ ଦୃଢ଼ କର ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ଶପଥ ସିଦ୍ଧ କର।
26 ଏଣୁ ହେ ଯିହୁଦାର ସମସ୍ତ ମିଶର ଦେଶ ନିବାସୀ, ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କର ବାକ୍ଯ ଶୁଣ, ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ କହନ୍ତି, ଦେଖ, ମୁଁ ଆପଣା ମହାନାମ ରେ ଶପଥ କରିଅଛି, ମିଶର ଦେଶସ୍ଥ ୟିହୁଦୀ ଲୋକ ମାରେ ନାମର ବ୍ଯବହାର କରିବ ନାହିଁ। ସମାନେେ କବେେ କହିବେ ନାହିଁ, ନିଶ୍ଚିତ ରେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଅଛନ୍ତି।
27 'ଆଉ ଦେଖ, ଆମ୍ଭେ ସମାନଙ୍କେର ମଙ୍ଗଳ ନିମନ୍ତେ ନୁହେଁ, ଅମଙ୍ଗଳ ନିମନ୍ତେ ସମାନଙ୍କେୁ ଜଗି ରହିବା। ମିଶର ଦେଶସ୍ଥ ସମସ୍ତ ୟୁହୁଦୀ ନିଃଶଷେ ହବୋ ପର୍ୟ୍ଯନ୍ତ ଖଡ୍ଗ, ଓ ଦୁର୍ଭିକ୍ଷର ମୃତ୍ଯୁ ଲାଗି ରହିବ।
28 ଖଡ୍ଗରୁ ରକ୍ଷା ପାଇ ଅଳ୍ପ କେତକେ ଲୋକ ମିଶରରୁ ଯିହୁଦାକୁ ଫରେିଯିବେ। ତହିଁରେ ଯେଉଁମାନେ ପ୍ରବାସ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ମିଶର ଦେଶକୁ ୟାଇଅଛନ୍ତି, ଯିହୁଦାର ସହେି ଅବଶିଷ୍ଟାଂଶ ଲୋକେ, ସମାନେେ ଜାଣିବେ ତାହାର ବାକ୍ଯ ବିଶ୍ବାସ ଯୋଗ୍ଯ, ମାରେି ନା ସବୋନଙ୍କର।
29 ପୁଣି ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ କହନ୍ତି, ଆମ୍ଭେ ଏହି ସ୍ଥାନ ରେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଦଣ୍ଡ ଦବୋ ଓ ତାହା ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ପ୍ରମାଣ ସ୍ବରୂପ ହବେ।' 'ତହିଁରେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ଅମଙ୍ଗଳ ନିମନ୍ତେ ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ବାକ୍ଯ ଯେ ନିଶ୍ଚଯ ଅଟଳ ହବେ, ଏହା ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଜାଣିବ।
30 ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଏହିକଥା କହନ୍ତି, ଦେଖ, ଆମ୍ଭେ ଯେପରି ଯିହୁଦାର ରାଜା ସିଦିକିଯକୁ ତାହାର ପ୍ରାଣ ନାଶକାରୀ ଶତ୍ରୁ ବାବିଲର ରାଜା ନବୂଖଦନିତ୍ସର ହସ୍ତ ରେ ସମର୍ପଣ କଲୁ,' ସହେିପରି, 'ଆମ୍ଭେ ମିଶରର ରାଜା ଫାରୋ-ହଫ୍ରାକୁ ତାହାର ପ୍ରାଣନାଶକାରୀ ଶତ୍ରୁମାନଙ୍କ ହସ୍ତ ରେ ସମର୍ପଣ କରିବା।
1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews which dwell in the land of Egypt, which dwell at Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, and at Noph, and in the country of Pathros, saying,
2 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah; and, behold, this day they are a desolation, and no man dwelleth therein,
3 Because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, and to serve other gods, whom they knew not, neither they, ye, nor your fathers.
4 Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate.
5 But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto other gods.
6 Wherefore my fury and mine anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as at this day.
7 Therefore now thus saith the Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; Wherefore commit ye this great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman, child and suckling, out of Judah, to leave you none to remain;
8 In that ye provoke me unto wrath with the works of your hands, burning incense unto other gods in the land of Egypt, whither ye be gone to dwell, that ye might cut yourselves off, and that ye might be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?
9 Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they have committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?
10 They are not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.
11 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, and to cut off all Judah.
12 And I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be consumed by the sword and by the famine: they shall die, from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine: and they shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach.
13 For I will punish them that dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence:
14 So that none of the remnant of Judah, which are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall escape or remain, that they should return into the land of Judah, to the which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return but such as shall escape.
15 Then all the men which knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,
16 As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the Lord, we will not hearken unto thee.
17 But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.
18 But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.
19 And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?
20 Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people which had given him that answer, saying,
21 The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the Lord remember them, and came it not into his mind?
22 So that the Lord could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which ye have committed; therefore is your land a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.
23 Because ye have burned incense, and because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil is happened unto you, as at this day.
24 Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the Lord, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt:
25 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows.
26 Therefore hear ye the word of the Lord, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith the Lord, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord God liveth.
27 Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.
28 Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or theirs.
29 And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the Lord, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil:
30 Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will give Pharaoh-hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his life.
1 After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.
2 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.
3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.
4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?
5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
6 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.
7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.
8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.
9 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
10 And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.
11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.
12 And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?
13 And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.
14 And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
15 And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.
16 And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
17 And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.
18 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.
19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?
20 And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish.
21 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.
22 And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
23 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.
24 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.
25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.
26 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
27 And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.
28 But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.
29 But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.
30 And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.
31 But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.
32 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.
33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;
34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.
35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?
38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.
40 And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.
41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
42 Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.
43 And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
44 And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.
45 And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.
46 And they laid their hands on him, and took him.
47 And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
48 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?
49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.
50 And they all forsook him, and fled.
51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:
52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
53 And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.
54 And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.
55 And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
56 For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
57 And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
59 But neither so did their witness agree together.
60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
63 Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?
64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.
65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.
66 And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:
67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.
68 But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.
69 And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.
70 And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.
71 But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.
72 And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.
