ରାଜା ଶଲୋମନ ତାଙ୍କ ମାତାଙ୍କୁ ପଚାରିଲେ, ତୁମ୍ଭେ ମାେତେ କାହିଁକି ଅବୀଶଗ ସହିତ ଅଦୋନିଯକୁ ବିବାହ ଦବୋ ପାଇଁ କହୁଛ? ତୁମ୍ଭେ ମାେତେ କାହିଁକି ପଗ୍ଭରୁନାହଁ ତାକୁ ରାଜା କରିବା ପାଇଁ? କାରଣ ସେ ତ ମାରେବଡଭାଇ। ଯାଜକ ଅବିଯାଥର ଓ ସରୁଯାର ପୁତ୍ର ଯୋୟାବ ତାକୁ ସମର୍ଥନ କରନ୍ତି।

ରାଜା ଦାଉଦ ଓ ପତ୍ନୀ ହଗୀତଙ୍କର ପୁତ୍ର ଅଦୋନିଯ ଅତି ସୁନ୍ଦର ଥିଲେ। ସେ ତାଙ୍କର ଭାଇ ଅବଶାଲୋମଙ୍କ ପରେ ଜନ୍ମ ଗ୍ରହଣ କରିଥିଲେ। ମାତ୍ର ସେ ଅତ୍ଯନ୍ତ ଗର୍ବୀ ଥିଲେ ଓ ନିଜେ ପରବର୍ତ୍ତୀ ରାଜା ହବୋକୁ ସ୍ଥିର କଲେ।

ଏଥି ରେ ନାଥନ ଶଲୋମନଙ୍କର ମାତା ବତ୍ଶବୋଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ପ୍ରଭୁ ଦାଉଦଙ୍କ ଅଜ୍ଞାତସାର ରେ ହଗୀତଙ୍କର ପୁତ୍ର ଅଦୋନିଯ ନିଜକୁ ରାଜା କରିଅଛନ୍ତି। ଏହା କ'ଣ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଶୁଣି ନାହିଁ?

ନାଥନ କହିଲେ, ହେ ମାରେ ମହାରାଜ, ଆପଣ କ'ଣ ଘାଷେଣା କରିଛନ୍ତି କି ଆପଣଙ୍କ ପରେ ଅଦୋନିଯ ରାଜ୍ଯ କରିବେ ଓ ଆପଣଙ୍କ ସିଂହାସନକୁ ଅଧିକାର କରିବେ?

ବା ଯେତବେେଳେ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ମାଗ, ତାହା ପାଅ ନାହିଁ। କାହିଁକି ? କାରଣ ଯେଉଁ କାରଣରୁ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ମାଗ, ତାହା ଭୁଲ ଥାଏ। ତୁମ୍ଭେ ନିଜର ଅଭିଳାଷ ପାଇଁ ଯେପରି ସଗେୁଡ଼ିକୁ ବ୍ଯବହାର କରିପାର, ସେଥିପାଇଁ ସହେିସବୁ ମାଗିଥାଅ।
