तर त्यस शहरमा शिमोन नाउँ गरेको एकजना मानिस थिए। फिलिप त्यहाँ आउन भन्दा अघि तिनी जादू गर्दै थिए अनि सामरियाका मानिसहरूलाई चकित पारेका थिए। शिमोनले घमण्ड साथ आफूलाई महान-मानिस दावी गर्थे।
