1 And it cometh to pass, at that time, that Judah goeth down from his brethren, and turneth aside unto a man, an Adullamite, whose name `is' Hirah;त्यस समय यहूदा आफ्नो दाज्यू-भाइहरूलाई छोडी हीरा नाउँको मानिससित बस्न गए। हीरा अद्‌दुलाम शहरको थियो।

2 and Judah seeth there the daughter of a man, a Canaanite, whose name `is' Shuah, and taketh her, and goeth in unto her.यहूदाले त्यहीं कनानी केटीलाई भेट्यो अनि उसलाई विवाह गर्यो। त्यस केटीको बाबुको नाउँ शूआ थियो।

3 And she conceiveth, and beareth a son, and he calleth his name Er;त्यस कनानी केटीले एउटा छोरो जन्माई। उनले उसको नाउँ एर राखी।

4 and she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and calleth his name Onan;पछि फेरि अर्को छोरो पाई र उसको नाउँ ओनन राखी।

5 and she addeth again, and beareth a son, and calleth his name Shelah; and he was in Chezib in her bearing him.पछि फेरि उनले अर्को छोरो जन्माई अनि उसको नाउँ उनले शेलह राखीन्। उसको तेस्रो छोरो जन्मँदा यहूदा कजीबामा थियो।

6 And Judah taketh a wife for Er, his first-born, and her name `is' Tamar;यहूदाले आफ्नो छोरो एरको विवाह गराउँनको निम्ति एउटी केटीलाई रोज्यो। त्यस केटीको नाउँ तामार थियो।

7 and Er, Judah's first-born, is evil in the eyes of Jehovah, and Jehovah doth put him to death.तर एरले अत्यन्तै नराम्रो काम गर्यो। परमप्रभु ऊसंग प्रसन्न हुनुभएन। यसकारण परमप्रभुले उसलाई मार्नु भयो।

8 And Judah saith to Onan, `Go in unto the wife of thy brother, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother;'त्यसपछि यहूदाले एरको भाइ ओनानलाई भने, “जा अनि मरेको दाइको पत्नीसित सुत। तँ उसको लोग्ने जस्तै बनिनु। यदि नानीहरू जन्मे ती तेरो दाइ एरका नानीहरू हुन्छन्।”

9 and Onan knoweth that the seed is not `reckoned' his; and it hath come to pass, if he hath gone in unto his brother's wife, that he hath destroyed `it' to the earth, so as not to give seed to his brother;ओनानलाई थाहा थियो तामार र ऊबाट जो नानीहरू हुन्छन् ती सबै उसका हुँदैनन्। ओनानले तामारसित सहवास गर्यो। तर उनले आफ्नो गर्भधारण हुन दिएन।

10 and that which he hath done is evil in the eyes of Jehovah, and He putteth him also to death.यस विषयमा परमप्रभु क्रोधित हुनु भयो। यसकारण परमप्रभुले ओनानलाई पनि मार्नु भयो।

11 And Judah saith to Tamar his daughter-in-law, `Abide a widow at thy father's house, till Shelah my son groweth up;' for he said, `Lest he die -- even he -- like his brethren;' and Tamar goeth and dwelleth at her father's house.त्यसपछि आफ्नी बुहारी तामारलाई यहूदाले भन्यो, “तँ आफ्नो बाबुको घर फर्केर जा, त्यही बस अनि तबसम्म विवाह नगर्नु जबसम्म मेरो छोरा शेलह ठूलो हुँदैन।” यहूदालाई डर थियो कतै शेलह पनि उसको दाज्यूहरू झैं मारिन्छ। तामार आफ्नो बाबुको घरमा फर्केर गइन्।

12 And the days are multiplied, and the daughter of Shuah, Judah's wife, dieth; and Judah is comforted, and goeth up unto his sheep-shearers, he and Hirah his friend the Adullamite, to Timnath.पछि शूआकी छोरी यहूदाकी पत्नी मरी। यहूदाको शोक समय बितेपछि, त्यो अद्‌दुलामबाट आफ्नो साथी हीरासित तिम्ना गए। भेडाबाट काटिएको ऊन लिन यहुदा तिम्ना गए।

13 And it is declared to Tamar, saying, `Lo, thy husband's father is going up to Timnath to shear his flock;'उसको ससुरा यहूदा भेडाको ऊन लिन तिम्ना गएको कुरा तामारले चाल पाई।

14 and she turneth aside the garments of her widowhood from off her, and covereth herself with a vail, and wrappeth herself up, and sitteth in the opening of Enayim, which `is' by the way to Timnath, for she hath seen that Shelah hath grown up, and she hath not been given to him for a wife.तामारले संधै विधवाले लगाउने लुगा लाउने गर्द थिइ। यसर्थ उनले भिन्दै केही लुगा लगाई अनि आफ्नो अनुहार पर्दाले छोपी। त्यसपछि तिम्ना शहरको नजिक एनैम जाने बाटोको मुन्तिर बसी। तामारले थाहा पाई यहूदाको छोरो शेलह अब ठूलो भइसकेको छ। तर यहूदाले ऊसित विवाह गर्ने कुनै योजना बनाउने छैन।

15 And Judah seeth her, and reckoneth her for a harlot, for she hath covered her face,यहूदा त्यही बाटो हिंडेर गए। उनले तामारलाई देख्यो तर त्यो वेश्या हो भनेर सोच्यो। उनले आफ्नो अनुहार वेश्याहरूले जस्तै पर्दाले ढाकेकी थिई।

16 and he turneth aside unto her by the way, and saith, `Come, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee,' (for he hath not known that she `is' his daughter-in-law); and she saith, `What dost thou give to me, that thou mayest come in unto me?'यसर्थ यहूदा तिनी भएको ठाउँमा गए अनि भन्यो, “तँसित शारीरिक सम्बन्ध गर्नदे।” यहूदाले थाहा पाएन ऊ आफ्नी बुहारी तामार थिई।उनले भनी, “तिमीले मलाई के दिन्छौ?”

17 and he saith, `I -- I send a kid of the goats from the flock.' And she saith, `Dost thou give a pledge till thou send `it'?'यहूदाले उत्तर दियो, “म मेरो भेडाको हुलबाट एउटा भेडा पठाइ दिनेछु।”उनले उत्तर दिई, “यसमा म राजी छु। तर तिमीले मलाई भेडा नपठाउञ्जेलसम्म राख्नलाई केही दिनु पर्छ।”

18 and he saith, `What `is' the pledge that I give to thee?' and she saith, `Thy seal, and thy ribbon, and thy staff which `is' in thy hand;' and he giveth to her, and goeth in unto her, and she conceiveth to him;यहूदाले सोध्यो, “मैले भेडा नपठाउञ्जेलसम्म के बन्धक राख्न चाहन्छौ?”तामारले उत्तर दिई, “तिमीले आफ्नो चिट्ठी पठाउँदा प्रयोग गर्ने मोहर र डोरी देऊ। अनि तिमीले टेक्ने लट्ठी पनी देऊ।” यहूदाले यी सब चीजहरू उसलाई दिएर तामारसित सहवास गरे। तामार गर्भवती भइन्।

19 and she riseth, and goeth, and turneth aside her vail from off her, and putteth on the garments of her widowhood.तामार घर गई अनि उनले आफ्नो मुखबाट पर्दा हटाएर फेरि त्यही आफूलाई विधवा देखाउने लुगा पहिरीन्।

20 And Judah sendeth the kid of the goats by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive the pledge from the hand of the woman, and he hath not found her.त्यसपछि यहूदाले वेश्यासित प्रतिज्ञा गरे अनुसार हीरालाई एउटा सानो बाख्रा दिएर एनैम पठाए। यहूदाले उसलाई आफ्नो मोहर र लट्ठी फर्काएर ल्याउनुँ भन्यो। तर हीराले तामारलाई भेट्न सकेन।

21 And he asketh the men of her place, saying, `Where `is' the separated one -- she in Enayim, by the way?' and they say, `There hath not been in this `place' a separated one.'हीराले एनैम शहरका केही मानिसहरूलाई सोध्यो, “बाटोको छेऊमा बस्ने वेश्या कहाँ छे?” मानिसहरूले जवाफ दिए, “यहाँ कोही वेश्या थिइन।”

22 And he turneth back unto Judah, and saith, `I have not found her; and the men of the place also have said, There hath not been in this `place' a separated one,'यसर्थ यहूदाको साथी तिनीकहाँ गए र भने, “मैले आइमाईलाई भेट्न सकिन। जब मैले त्यस ठाउँका मानिसहरूलाई सोधें, तिनीहरूले मलाई बताए त्यस ठाउँमा कोही वेश्या थिइन।”

23 and Judah saith, `Let her take to herself, lest we become despised; lo, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.'यसकारण यहूदाले भने, “त्यसलाई ती चीजहरू राख्न देऊ। म चाँहदिन मानिसहरू ममाथि हाँसुन्। मैले त्यसलाई बाख्रा दिन खोजें तर उसलाई भेटिएन, त्यही नै पर्याप्त छ।”

24 And it cometh to pass about three months `after', that it is declared to Judah, saying, `Tamar thy daughter-in-law hath committed fornication; and also, lo, she hath conceived by fornication:' and Judah saith, `Bring her out -- and she is burnt.'प्रायः तीन महीनापछि कसैले यहूदालाई भने, “तिम्रो बुहारीले वेश्याले जस्तै काम गरी। अनि अहिले उ वेश्यावृतिले गर्दा गर्भवती छे।”तब यूहदाले भन्यो, “उसलाई बाहिर निकाल, उसलाई मार अनि उसको शरीर जलाई दे।”

25 She is brought out, and she hath sent unto her husband's father, saying, `To a man whose these `are', I `am' pregnant;' and she saith, `Discern, I pray thee, whose `are' these -- the seal, and the ribbons, and the staff.'यहूदाका मानिसहरू तामारलाई मार्न गए। तर तामारले आफ्नो ससुरालाई समाचार पठाई। तामारले भनी, “जुन मानिसले मलाई गर्भवती बनायो त्यसैका यी चीजहरू हुन्। तब उनले मोहर, डोरी अनि टेक्ने लट्ठी देखाई। यी चीजहरू हेर यी सब कसका हुन्? यी कसका विशेष मोहर, डोरी र टेक्‌ने लट्ठी हो?”

26 And Judah discerneth and saith, `She hath been more righteous than I, because that I did not give her to Shelah my son;' and he hath not added to know her again.यहूदाले ती चीजहरू चिन्यो अनि भने, “उनले ठीक भनी। म नै भूलमा थिएँ। मैले आफ्नो प्रतिज्ञा अनुसार उसको विवाह आफ्नो छोरा शेलहसित गर्न दिइनँ।” अनि यहूदा फेरि तिनीसित सुतेनन्।

27 And it cometh to pass in the time of her bearing, that lo, twins `are' in her womb;तामारको सुत्केरी हुने समय आइपुग्यो अनि उनले थाहा पाई जुम्लयाह नानीहरू हुनेछन्।

28 and it cometh to pass in her bearing, that `one' giveth out a hand, and the midwife taketh and bindeth on his hand a scarlet thread, saying, `This hath come out first.'जुन समयमा उनले नानी जन्माँउदै थिई एउटा नानीको एउटा हात बाहिर निस्कियो। सुँडेनीले त्यो नानीको हातमा रातो धागो बाँधेर भनी, “यो नानी पहिले जन्मन्छ।”

29 And it cometh to pass as he draweth back his hand, that lo, his brother hath come out, and she saith, `What! thou hast broken forth -- on thee `is' the breach;' and he calleth his name Pharez;तर त्यस नानीले आफ्नो हात फेरि भित्र पसायो। त्यसपछि दोस्रो नानी पहिले जन्मयो। त्यस बखत सुँडेनीले भनी, “तँ नै पहिले बाहिर आउन समर्थ भइस्।” त्यसकारण उनले त्यस नानीको नाउँ पेरेस राखी।

30 and afterwards hath his brother come out, on whose hand `is' the scarlet thread, and he calleth his name Zarah.त्यसपछि अर्को नानी जन्मियो। त्यस नानीको हातमा रातो धागो थियो। उनले त्यस नानीको नाउँ जेरह राखि।
