1 அவன் சவுலோடே பேசி முடிந்த பின்பு, யோனத்தானுடைய ஆத்துமா தாவீதின் ஆத்துமாவோடே ஒன்றாய் இசைந்திருந்தது; யோனத்தான் அவனைத் தன் உயிரைப்போலச் சிநேகித்தான். And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

2 சவுல் அவனை அவன் தகப்பன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போக ஒட்டாமல், அன்று முதல் தன்னிடத்தில் வைத்துக் கொண்டான். And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house.

3 யோனத்தான் தாவீதைத் தன் ஆத்துமாவைப் போலச் சிநேகித்ததினால், அவனும் இவனும் உடன்படிக்கைபண்ணிக் கொண்டார்கள். Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

4 யோனத்தான் போர்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்த சால்வையைக் கழற்றி, அதையும், தன் வஸ்திரத்தையும், தன் பட்டயத்தையும், தன் வில்லையும், தன் கச்சையையும்கூடத் தாவீதுக்குக் கொடுத்தான். And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.

5 தாவீது சவுல் தன்னை அனுப்புகிற எவ்விடத்திற்கும் போய், புத்தியாய்க் காரியத்தை நடப்பித்ததினால், சவுல் அவனை யுத்தமனுஷரின்மேல் அதிகாரியாக்கினான்; அவன் எல்லா ஜனத்தின் கண்களுக்கும், சவுலுடைய ஊழியக்காரரின் கண்களுக்கும்கூடப் பிரியமாயிருந்தான். And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants.

And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of music.

7 அந்த ஸ்திரீகள் ஆடிப்பாடுகையில்: சவுல் கொன்றது ஆயிரம், தாவீது கொன்றது பதினாயிரம் என்று முறைமுறையாகப் பாடினார்கள். And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.

10 மறுநாளிலே தேவனால் விடப்பட்ட பொல்லாத ஆவி சவுலின்மேல் இறங்கிற்று; அவன் வீட்டிற்குள்ளே தீர்க்கதரிசனம் சொல்லிக்கொண்டிருந்தான்; அப்பொழுது தாவீது தினந்தோறும் செய்கிறபடி, தன் கையினால் சுரமண்டலத்தை வாசித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தான்; சவுலின் கையிலே ஈட்டியிருந்தது. And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul's hand.

11 அப்பொழுது சவுல் தாவீதைச் சுவரோடே சேர்த்து உருவக் குத்திப்போடுவேன் என்று ஈட்டியை அவன்மேல் எறிந்தான்; ஆனாலும் தாவீது விலகி இரண்டுதரம் அவனுக்குத் தப்பினான். And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.

12 கர்த்தர் தாவீதோடேகூட இருக்கிறார் என்றும் தன்னை விட்டு விலகிப்போனார் என்றும், சவுல் கண்டு, தாவீதுக்குப் பயந்து, And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.

13 அவனைத் தன்னைவிட்டு அப்புறப்படுத்தி, அவனை ஆயிரம்பேருக்கு அதிபதியாக வைத்தான்; அப்படியே அவன் ஜனத்திற்கு முன்பாகப் போக்கும் வரத்துமாயிருந்தான். Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.

14 தாவீது தன் செய்கைகளிலெல்லாம் புத்திமானாய் நடந்தான்; கர்த்தர் அவனோடேகூட இருந்தார். And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.

15 அவன் மகா புத்திமானாய் நடக்கிறதைச் சவுல் கண்டு, அவனுக்குப் பயந்திருந்தான். Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.

16 இஸ்ரவேலரும் யூதா ஜனங்களுமாகிய யாவரும் தாவீதைச் சிநேகித்தார்கள்; அவர்களுக்கு முன்பாக அவன் போக்கும் வரத்துமாயிருந்தான். But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.

17 என் கை அல்ல, பெலிஸ்தரின் கையே அவன்மேல் விழட்டும் என்று சவுல் நினைத்துக்கொண்டு, சவுல் தாவீதை நோக்கி: இதோ, என் மூத்த குமாரத்தியாகிய மேராவை உனக்கு மனைவியாகக் கொடுப்பேன்; நீ எனக்கு நல்ல சேவகனாய்மாத்திரம் இருந்து, கர்த்தருடைய யுத்தங்களை நடத்து என்றான். And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD's battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.

19 சவுலின் குமாரத்தியாகிய மேராப் தாவீதுக்குக் கொடுக்கப்படுங் காலம் வந்தபோது, அவள் மேகோலாத்தியனாகிய ஆதரியேலுக்கு மனைவியாகக் கொடுக்கப்பட்டாள். But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul's daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife.

20 சவுலின் குமாரத்தியாகிய மீகாள் தாவீதை நேசித்தாள்; அது சவுலுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டபோது, அது அவனுக்குச் சந்தோஷமாயிருந்தது. And Michal Saul's daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.

And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the twain.

And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king's son in law.

And Saul's servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king's son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?

24 தாவீது இன்ன இன்னபடி சொன்னான் என்று சவுலின் ஊழியக்காரர் அவனுக்கு அறிவித்தார்கள். And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spake David.

25 அப்பொழுது சவுல்: ராஜா பரிசத்தை விரும்பாமல், பெலிஸ்தரின் நூறு நுனித்தோல்களினால் ராஜாவின் சத்துருக்களிடத்தில் பழிவாங்க விருப்பமாயிருக்கிறார் என்று தாவீதுக்குச் சொல்லுங்கள் என்றான்; தாவீதை பெலிஸ்தரின் கையினால் விழப்பண்ணுவதே சவுலுடைய எண்ணமாயிருந்தது. And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.

26 அவன் ஊழியக்காரர் தாவீதுக்கு இந்த வார்த்தைகளைச் சொன்னபோது, ராஜாவுக்கு மருமகனாகிறது தாவீதுக்குப் பிரியமாயிருந்தது. And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son in law: and the days were not expired.

Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king's son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.

28 கர்த்தர் தாவீதோடிருக்கிறார் என்று சவுல் கண்டறிந்துகொண்டான்; சவுலின் குமாரத்தியாகிய மீகாளும் அவனை நேசித்தாள். And Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David, and that Michal Saul's daughter loved him.

29 ஆகையால் இன்னும் அதிகமாய்த் தாவீதுக்குப் பயந்து, தான் உயிரோடிருந்த நாளெல்லாம் தாவீதுக்குச் சத்துருவாயிருந்தான். And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David's enemy continually.

30 பெலிஸ்தருடைய பிரபுக்கள் புறப்படுகிறபோதெல்லாம் தாவீது சவுலுடைய ஊழியக்காரர் எல்லாரைப்பார்க்கிலும் புத்திமானாய் நடந்துகொண்டான்; அவன் பேர் மிகவும் கனம்பெற்றது. Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.

And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

3 Yonaththaan thaaveethaith than aaththumaavaip polach sinaekiththathinaal, avanum ivanum udanpatikkaipannnnik konndaarkal. Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

4 Yonaththaan porththukkonntiruntha saalvaiyaik kalatti, athaiyum, than vasthiraththaiyum, than pattayaththaiyum, than villaiyum, than kachchaைyaiyumkoodath Davidkkuk koduththaan. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.

5 David savul thannai anuppukira evvidaththirkum poy, puththiyaayk kaariyaththai nadappiththathinaal, savul avanai yuththamanusharinmael athikaariyaakkinaan; avan ellaa janaththin kannkalukkum, savulutaiya ooliyakkaararin kannkalukkumkoodap piriyamaayirunthaan. And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants.

6 David pelisthanaik kontu thirumpi vanthapinpu, janangal thirumpavarumpothum, sthireekal isravaelin sakala pattanangalilumirunthu, aadal paadaludan purappattu, maelangalodum geethavaaththiyangalodum santhoshamaay raajaavaakiya savulukku ethirkonnduvanthaarkal. And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of music.

7 Antha sthireekal aatippaadukaiyil: savul kontathu aayiram, David kontathu pathinaayiram entu muraimuraiyaakap paatinaarkal. And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.

8 Antha vaarththai savulukku visanamaayirunthathu; avan mikuntha erichchalatainthu, Davidkkup pathinaayiram, enakko aayiram koduththaarkal; innum raajaangamaaththiram avanukku kuraivaayirukkirathu entu solli, And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?

9 Annaal mutharkonndu savul thaaveethaik kaaymakaaramaayp paarththaan. And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.

10 Maraுnaalilae thaevanaal vidappatta pollaatha aavi savulinmael irangittaு; avan veettirkullae theerkkatharisanam sollikkonntirunthaan; appoluthu David thinanthoraுm seykirapati, than kaiyinaal suramanndalaththai vaasiththukkonntirunthaan; savulin kaiyilae eettiyirunthathu. 12 Karththar thaaveethotaekooda irukkiraar entum thannai vittu vilakipponaar entum, savul kanndu, Davidkkup payanthu, And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.

13 Avanaith thannaivittu appurappaduththi, avanai aayirampaerukku athipathiyaaka vaiththaan; appatiyae avan janaththirku munpaakap pokkum varaththumaayirunthaan. Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.

14 David than seykaikalilellaam puththimaanaay nadanthaan; Karththar avanotaekooda irunthaar. And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.

15 Avan makaa puththimaanaay nadakkirathaich savul kanndu, avanukkup payanthirunthaan. Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.

16 Isravaelarum yoothaa janangalumaakiya yaavarum thaaveethaich sinaekiththaarkal; avarkalukku munpaaka avan pokkum varaththumaayirunthaan. But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.

17 En kai alla, pelistharin kaiyae avanmael vilattum entu savul ninaiththukkonndu, savul thaaveethai Nnokki: itho, en mooththa kumaaraththiyaakiya maeraavai unakku manaiviyaakak koduppaen; nee enakku nalla sevakanaaymaaththiram irunthu, karththarutaiya yuththangalai nadaththu entan. And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD's battles. 19 Savulin kumaaraththiyaakiya maeraap Davidkkuk kodukkappadung kaalam vanthapothu, aval maekolaaththiyanaakiya aathariyaelukku manaiviyaakak kodukkappattal. But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul's daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife.

20 Savulin kumaaraththiyaakiya meekaal thaaveethai naesiththaal; athu savulukku arivikkappattapothu, athu avanukkuch santhoshamaayirunthathu. And Michal Saul's daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.

21 Aval avanukkuk kannnniyaayirukkavum, pelistharin kai avanmael vilavum, avalai avanukkuk koduppaen entu savul ennnni, thaaveethai Nnokki: nee ennutaiya iranndaam kumaaraththiyinaal intu enakku marumakanaavaay entan. And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the twain.

22 Pinpu savul than ooliyakkaararaip paarththu: neengal thaaveethotae irakasiyamaayp paesi: itho, raajaa unmael piriyamaayirukkiraar; avarutaiya ooliyakkaarar ellaarum ummaich sinaekikkiraarkal; ippoluthum neer raajaavukku marumakanaanaal nalam entu sollungal entu karpiththaan. And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king's son in law.

23 Savulin ooliyakkaarar intha vaarththaikalaith thaaveethin sevikal kaetkap paesinaarkal; appoluthu David, naan raajaavukku marumakanaakirathu laesaana kaariyamaa? Naan eliyavanum, arpamaay ennnappattavanumaayirukkiraேn entan. And Saul's servants spake those words in the ears of David. 24 David inna innapati sonnaan entu savulin ooliyakkaarar avanukku ariviththaarkal. And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spake David.

25 Appoluthu savul: raajaa parisaththai virumpaamal, pelistharin nooraு nuniththolkalinaal raajaavin saththurukkalidaththil palivaanga viruppamaayirukkiraar entu Davidkkuch sollungal entan; thaaveethai pelistharin kaiyinaal vilappannnuvathae savulutaiya ennnamaayirunthathu. 27 Atharkuk kuriththa naatkal niraivaeraுmunnae, David elunthu, than manusharaik koottikkonndupoy, pelistharil irunooraுpaerai vetti, avarkal nuniththolkalaik konndu vanthu, naan raajaavukku marumakanaakumpatikku, avaikalai raajaavukku ennnnich seluththinaan; appoluthu savul than kumaaraththiyaakiya meekaalai avanukku manaiviyaakak koduththaan. Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king's son in law. 28 Karththar thaaveethotirukkiraar entu savul kanndarinthukonndaan; savulin kumaaraththiyaakiya meekaalum avanai naesiththaal. And Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David, and that Michal Saul's daughter loved him.

29 Aakaiyaal innum athikamaayth Davidkkup payanthu, thaan uyirotiruntha naalellaam Davidkkuch saththuruvaayirunthaan. And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David's enemy continually.

30 Pelistharutaiya pirapukkal purappadukirapothellaam David savulutaiya ooliyakkaarar ellaaraippaarkkilum puththimaanaay nadanthukonndaan; avan paer mikavum kanampettathu. Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.
