அப்பொழுது அவன் இவனைப்பார்த்து: அந்த மனிதன் உனக்கு எதிர்கொண்டுவரத் தன் இரதத்திலிருந்து இறங்கித் திரும்புகிறபோது என் மனம் உன்னுடன்கூடச் செல்லவில்லையா? பணத்தை வாங்குகிறதற்கும், உடைகளையும் ஒலிவத்தோப்புகளையும் திராட்சைத்தோட்டங்களையும் ஆடுமாடுகளையும் வேலைக்காரர்களையும் வேலைக்காரிகளையும் வாங்குகிறதற்கும் இது காலமா?

எலிசா அவனிடம், “இது உண்மை இல்லை! நாகமான் இரதத்திலிருந்து இறங்கி உன்னை எதிர்கொண்டபோதே என் மனம் உன்னோடு வந்துவிட்டதே. பணம், ஆடை, ஒலிவ எண்ணெய், திராட்சை, ஆடு, பசுக்கள், ஆண்கள் அல்லது பெண்கள் அடிமைகள் போன்றவற்றை அன்பளிப்பாகப் பெறும் காலம் இதுவல்ல.
