ദൈവം അവനോടു: നിന്റെ പേർ യാക്കോബ് എന്നല്ലോ; ഇനി നിനക്കു യാക്കോബ് എന്നല്ല യിസ്രായേൽ എന്നു തന്നെ പേരാകേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു അവന്നു യിസ്രായേൽ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.
