1 ആകയാൽ സകലദുഷ്ടതയും എല്ലാ ചതിവും വ്യാജഭാവവും അസൂയയും എല്ലാനുണയും നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു
2 ഇപ്പോൾ ജനിച്ച ശിശുക്കളെപ്പോലെ രക്ഷെക്കായി വളരുവാൻ വചനം എന്ന മായമില്ലാത്ത പാൽ കുടിപ്പാൻ
3 വാഞ്ഛിപ്പിൻ. കർത്താവു ദയാലു എന്നു നിങ്ങൾ ആസ്വദിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ.
4 മനുഷ്യർ തള്ളിയതെങ്കിലും ദൈവസന്നിധിയിൽ ശ്രേഷ്ഠവും മാന്യവുമായ ജീവനുള്ള കല്ലായ അവന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നിട്ടു
5 നിങ്ങളും ജീവനുള്ള കല്ലുകൾ എന്നപോലെ ആത്മികഗൃഹമായി യേശുക്രിസ്തുമുഖാന്തരം ദൈവത്തിന്നു പ്രസാദമുള്ള ആത്മികയാഗം കഴിപ്പാന്തക്ക വിശുദ്ധപുരോഹിതവർഗ്ഗമാകേ ണ്ടതിന്നു പണിയപ്പെടുന്നു.
6 “ഞാൻ ശ്രേഷ്ഠവും മാന്യവുമായോരു മൂലക്കല്ലു സീയോനിൽ ഇടുന്നു; അവനിൽ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നവൻ ലജ്ജിച്ചുപോകയില്ല” എന്നു തിരുവെഴുത്തിൽ കാണുന്നുവല്ലോ.
7 വിശ്വസിക്കുന്ന നിങ്ങൾക്കു ആ മാന്യതയുണ്ടു; വിശ്വസിക്കാത്തവർക്കോ “വീടു പണിയുന്നവർ തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞ കല്ലു തന്നേ മൂലക്കല്ലും ഇടർച്ചക്കല്ലും തടങ്ങൽ പാറയുമായിത്തീർന്നു.”
8 അവർ വചനം അനുസരിക്കായ്കയാൽ ഇടറിപ്പോകുന്നു; അതിന്നു അവരെ വെച്ചുമിരിക്കുന്നു.
9 നിങ്ങളോ അന്ധകാരത്തിൽനിന്നു തന്റെ അത്ഭുത പ്രകാശത്തിലേക്കു നിങ്ങളെ വിളിച്ചവന്റെ സൽഗുണങ്ങളെ ഘോഷിപ്പാന്തക്കവണ്ണം തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ട ഒരു ജാതിയും രാജകീയപുരോഹിതവർഗ്ഗവും വിശുദ്ധവംശവും സ്വന്തജനവും ആകുന്നു.
10 മുമ്പെ നിങ്ങൾ ജനമല്ലാത്തവർ; ഇപ്പോഴോ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ജനം; കരുണ ലഭിക്കാത്തവർ; ഇപ്പോഴോ കരുണ ലഭിച്ചവർ തന്നേ.
1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
