4 പിന്നെ ദാവീദും എല്ലായിസ്രായേലും യെബൂസ് എന്ന യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു ചെന്നു. അവിടെ ദേശനിവാസികളായ യെബൂസ്യർ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
5 യെബൂസ് നിവാസികൾ ദാവീദിനോടു: നീ ഇവിടെ കടക്കയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; എങ്കിലും ദാവീദ് സീയോൻ കോട്ട പിടിച്ചു; അതു ആകുന്നു ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരം.
6 എന്നാൽ ദാവീദ്: ആരെങ്കിലും യെബൂസ്യരെ ആദ്യം തോല്പിച്ചാൽ അവൻ തലവനും സേനാധിപതിയും ആയിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അങ്ങനെ സെരൂയയുടെ മകൻ യോവാബ് ആദ്യം കയറിച്ചെന്നു തലവനായിത്തീർന്നു.
7 ദാവീദ് ആ കോട്ടയിൽ പാർത്തതു കൊണ്ടു അതിന്നു ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരം എന്നു പേരായി.
8 പിന്നെ അവൻ നഗരത്തെ മില്ലോ തുടങ്ങി ചുറ്റും പണിതു ഉറപ്പിച്ചു; നഗരത്തിന്റെ ശേഷമുള്ള ഭാഗം യോവാബ് കേടുതീർത്തു.
9 സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ തന്നോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതിനാൽ ദാവീദ് മേല്ക്കുമേൽ പ്രബലനായിത്തീർന്നു.
4 And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus; where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land.
5 And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come hither. Nevertheless David took the castle of Zion, which is the city of David.
6 And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.
7 And David dwelt in the castle; therefore they called it the city of David.
8 And he built the city round about, even from Millo round about: and Joab repaired the rest of the city.
9 So David waxed greater and greater: for the Lord of hosts was with him.
