ಆಗ ಬಾಬೆಲಿನ ಅರಸನ ಸೈನ್ಯವು ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿಗೆ ಮುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಹಾಕುತ್ತಿತ್ತು; ಪ್ರವಾದಿಯಾದ ಯೆರೆವಿಾಯನು ಯೆಹೂದದ ಅರಸನ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಸೆರೆಮನೆಯ ಅಂಗಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಚ್ಚಲ್ಪಟ್ಟನು.

ಆಗ ಅವರು ಯೆರೆವಿಾಯನನ್ನು ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ಸೆರೆಮನೆಯ ಅಂಗಳದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಹಮ್ಮೇಲೆಕನ ಮಗನಾದ ಮಲ್ಕೀಯನ ಕುಣಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಕಿದರು; ಅವರು ಯೆರೆವಿಾಯನನ್ನು ಹಗ್ಗಗಳಿಂದ ಇಳಿಸಿದರು; ಆ ಕುಣಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೀರು ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ; ಕೆಸರು ಮಾತ್ರ ಇತ್ತು; ಯೆರೆವಿಾಯನು ಕೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಣುಗಿದನು.

ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ನನ್ನ ಚಿಕ್ಕಪ್ಪನ ಮಗನಾದ ಹನಮೇಲನು ಕರ್ತನ ವಾಕ್ಯದ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ನನ್ನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಸೆರೆಮನೆಯ ಅಂಗಳಕ್ಕೆಬಂದು--ಬೆನ್ಯಾವಿಾನನ ದೇಶದ ಅನಾತೋತಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ನನ್ನ ಹೊಲವನ್ನು ನಿನಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಕೊಂಡುಕೋ, ಬಾಧ್ಯದ ಅಧಿಕಾರವೂ ವಿಮೋಚನೆಯೂ ನಿನ್ನದು; ಅದನ್ನು ನಿನಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಕೊಂಡುಕೋ ಎಂದು ಬೇಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೇಳಿದನು. ಆಗ ಅದು ಕರ್ತನ ವಾಕ್ಯವೆಂದು ನಾನು ತಿಳುಕೊಂಡೆನು.

ಯೆಹೂದದ ಅರಸನಾದ ಚಿದ್ಕೀಯನು ಯೆರೆವಿಾಯನಿಗೆ--ಕರ್ತನು ಹೇಳುವ ದೇನಂದರೆ--ನಾನು ಈ ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ಬಾಬೆಲಿನ ಅರಸನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಡುತ್ತೇನೆ;
